Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

Magic Bands have been shipped!!! :cool1::cool1: It's like saying Santa has been spotted:rotfl2:

Same here. I was telling my wife last night that the only magic they have performed so far was to make a bunch of money disappear :rotfl:

Agreed. I booked mine so long ago that I keep adding things to our vacation. Today was a good day. I had an appointment at AAA to pick up my Magic Your Way package. Got my Trip Tik. And lastly, like I said, my MB have been shipped. Now the countdown REALLY begins. Not that I haven't been counting for the past year.:lmao:

Now that I think I have made the decision to rent a wheelchair for my husband for our stay at WDW, I find myself with more questions. We had intended to take the boat from Fort Wilderness to MK, will the boat take the wheelchair and strollers? They can all be folded for the boat ride, to save room, we just need to get them to the MK with us. This also leads to another issue....there are 6 adults, 2 teens and 2 toddlers in our group. I figured we would all fit in 2 golf carts cause the toddlers can sit in someone's lap, but now I realize we will have 2 strollers and a wheelchair to get to the dock with us. I would not have a problem upgrading to the golf cart for 6, if it is available, otherwise I guess someone is going to have to make a run first and drop off 1 person and the strollers and wheelchairs and then come back for the rest of us, lol! Every time I think I am getting a plan down, I come up with more questions and I think I am getting a little over-whelmed! :)

Also, I booked the Holiday Sleigh Ride for Christmas Eve, but I got nothing except a confirmation number when I booked it. No email confirmation, and it doesn't show up anywhere on my reservations. I ask when I booked it if I would get anything and he said no, that all I needed to do was give them the confirmation number when we go for our ride. Is this the way it works? It kind of bothers me a little that I can't visibly see the booking any where!

Hello...we rented a 4 seater golf cart with 4 adults, 1 three year old, 1 infant and several bags along with a stroller and had no problems. I think you can do it with 2 golf carts if you work at it :) And shouldn't be a problem on the boat ride to MK either. We took our stroller and sometimes if it wasn't to crowded they let us go on without folding it, which was great! I don't know about the sleigh ride though. I understand your concern and as long as you have a confirmation #, you should be ok. Wishing you a great time. We love FW campgrounds:wave2:

This is a picture of the boat that runs during the day between FW and MK. Note the entrance to the boat is the same height as the dock.

During the evenings, sometimes you will get a smaller boat. These boats have a step down, so you would need to fold up the wheelchair and stroller.

Thanks to both of you! How frequent do the boats run? They don't look very big, lol. I wonder how long we will have to wait for a boat on 12/22, lol! We have a 9:10 ADR at the Crystal Palace. What time do the boats start running. I am pretty sure the MK opens at 8 am on that day, if I am reading the schedule correctly, lol. This is my first time.....just stumbling along, trying not to make a mess out of our first trip.:)

The larger boat holds 120 people. They are surprisingly larger than they appear.

The boats run about every 20 minutes. Typically, the larger boat runs between FW and MK, and that starts running 30 minutes before park opening. Then there is usually a smaller boat that runs a loop between FW, WL and CR. That boat starts running at 6:30am. It's possible to take the smaller boat to CR and walk to MK from there if you want to arrive early.

I was discussing with my mother our strategy for trying to get from FW to MK for rope drop, so I was explaining that we were planning on taking the small boat from FW to CR and walking, which seems to be the conventional wisdom, since the smaller boats run so much earlier. She asked why we wouldn't take the monorail from CR to MK. The best I could come up with was I thought it would be faster to walk. Which do you think is faster? When does the monorail start running from CR to MK in the mornings?

Specifically, this is a little pre-planning for our first morning at Disney, so it might be cool to take two distinctly Disney modes of transportation before we arrive at the park. We have 10, 8, and 3 year olds. I am sure they would think the monorail is 1000 times cooler than walking.

It's faster to walk. After leaving the CR the monorail has to stop at TTV, Poly and then GF before making it to MK. Depending on crowds that loop can take 15-20 minutes. The walk is just under 10. But the monorail is much more fun. :thumbsup2

When does the monorail start running from CR to MK in the mornings?.

Currently the monorail is under reduced hours and doesn't start running until 8:30. Not sure how long that is under affect.

Wow, it doesn't look like it would hold that many people!

I don't want to be at MK for rope drop. We were thinking of trying to start our morning off by taking the little ones for a trip around the park on the train before our breakfast at 9:10. I think I read that it takes about 20 minutes to go around the park, and our breakfast is at the Crystal Palace. I was hoping to get to the park a little after 8, just to give the crowds there waiting for rope drop to get ahead of us. Do you think there will be much of a wait for the train, and also, I read that wheel chairs cannot go on the train, so is there a place to park them? If not, then hubby and I will just let the rest of the family go and we will head on towards the restaurant.

Any one know if the trading post sells cases of beer.

No on the sale of cases of beer, they do sell six packs at the price of a case of beer( almost). Go to the Hess station at Downtown Disney and buy beer by the case and just carry it back on the bus, we did that when staying at Old Key West.

Hey everyone! I have a few ADA questions. We will have a car.

If we are at a cabin and someone in our party has a scooter:

1. What is the easiest way to get to Hoop De Doo?
2. Should we plan on driving to all the parks and waterparks and not taking bus or boats?
3. We have an ADA cabin reserved. Which section should we request?

Thanks everyone!

We will be landing at MCO at 8:30PM and I will not want to stop at a store on the way in. Anyone have good/bad luck with Garden Grocer deliver to the cabins?

Not sure if this has been answered yet or not...It has been a few year since our last trip, but we used Garden Grocer when we stayed at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness in 2010 and when we stayed at the Poly in 2006. Both times were great experiences. Food was waiting for us in our cabin and room when we arrived. Everything was fresh (milk, bread, etc.), nothing squished, and well worth the little extra cost compared to a regular grocery stop.

I plan on using them again on our Dec '14 trip to FW (Camper this time) as well.

Have fun!

Thanks for the reply. We will be using them for out upcoming trip.

Got ours today. Just tried them on. I can see that they can be very sweaty if they are the least bit tight.

I have an artist friend that is going to decorate ours. Not too worried about it getting sweaty. I had a slight accident this morning (my mom should havw named me Grace) and spent a couple of hours in the ER. We thouhght my hand was broken. Just a bad sprain. I will be in a splint for 4-6 weeks. I'm just happy that i don't have a cast right now. That could all change once the swelling goes down and they get a good look at it. I will gladly take a sweaty band over a cast ;). 24 days until check in :cool1:.
