Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

hstrickland: thanks for all the help! So excited that we about to book our trip!

I'm looking at all the cabin pictures and I'm wondering if an adult can fit in one of the bunk beds. We have 4 adults going and none of us want to share a bed. Also, I am wondering if we can use the comfort station if we're staying in a cabin? Just in case of a bathroom emergency....:thumbsup2

It's my fraternal twin!! LOL. Were you able to get all of your FP+ that you wanted? Can't believe that we are under 60 days. I am ready.:cool1:

I got all that we wanted. Everyday we got all 3 in the mornings. It was quick and easy. I logged in at 10PM my time and was done in 20 minutes.

We go to Disney World every other year. So I am busy planning our December 2015 trip in my head. :) We usually stay at POR, but with it being excluded from free dining this year it has me thinking of other choices. I'm thinking about surprising the family with a cabin!!

So exciting!! I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions as we get closer.

Stephanie

What a fabulous surprise!! :thumbsup2 They would have tons of fun. We really like POR, too. Another great resort at Disney. The cabin would give you lots of extra room that a moderate resort can't. You can also do some meals in the cabin since there's a kitchen :thumbsup2 And there's tons of stuff to do, too. It's a win-win for you since either resort is an excellent choice.

Happy Planning! And remember...it's never too early to start that process

how are the buses from the cabins? are the pick up stations close to cabins?

The internal buses are running all day. Each loop has a bus depot. Depending on the location of your cabin or campsite, the walking distance will vary. However, it's not far at all. In fact, we probably walked further for a bus when we stayed at AKL.

Don't blame you for not wanting to share a bed. I actually slept on the bottom bunk when we were there. When Bill arrived, we just couldn't sleep in the double bed (we're use to a queen) so I slept on the bunk. Very comfortable. And yes, you can totally use the comfort stations. My MagicBand worked and let me in. When checking in, the CM told me it wouldn't work and gave me a card to open the doors at the comfort stations. Also, if you plan on using one, make sure you request a cabin loop that is close to the campsites. This is where the CS are located...in each campsite loop.

Wow! I'm impressed! :worship: 20 minutes!!! It took me FOREVER! :sad2:

I am planning a trip to Fort Wilderness as a surprise for my son and his family for next March. I have a reservation for a "full hook up" site and rented an RV from Greenberg (they will deliver the unit and set it up on the day of my family's arrival).

Since I won't have a specific site number until just before they arrive, can anyone tell me if the site I rented will be large enough for the RV, a rental car, and a rented golf cart?

I started reading several of the "camping" threads to gather information, but I'm sure I'll post more questions in the future.

Thanks in advance for your help.

We have been wanting to stay at FW for years and are finally thinking about doing it for our next trip! We are wanting to rent a cabin & I just have some questions.

1) Are any of the cabins a short walk (10 minutes or less) from the beach/boat launch to MK? If so, which cabin numbers would you request?

2) If the answer to question #1 is no, how does this work with a golf cart? Can you drive the golf cart to the beach, park it there for the day, & take the boat to MK? If so, is golf cart parking very difficult to find? Is there an additional parking fee?

Thanks!

What a great surprise!!!! :goodvibes I'm sure they will love it!!! There will be plenty of room for all three:thumbsup2 Cabin or campsites will allow 1 vehicle and a golf cart. No worries ;) If you have any other questions, we'll all be happy to assist :thumbsup2

Unfortunately, the cabins aren't a 10 minute walk from the beach/boats. We stayed in the 2200 loop and it took me 8 minutes to walk to the pool...and that's not even half way to the beach. If you look at the FW map at the beginning of the thread you'll get an idea of how big it is.

Golf carts are GREAT!!! You can drive them pretty much anywhere in the FW area. There are plenty of parking spaces at the boat dock and you can leave it all day if you like....no parking fees :thumbsup2 Only a charge per day for the cart. In fact there are tons of parking spaces at all major locations in the Fort.

Thank you so much-knowing we can park the golf cart for the day with ample parking by the boat launch is fantastic!

Do you know if they provide a pack n play & toddler guard rails in the cabins?

Yes, there was a pack n' play in the closet. There is a guard rail on the top bunk, but not the bottom. You'll really enjoy the extra space in the cabins especially with little ones. :thumbsup2

There should be enough room for all three. If there is not you could always park your car in the main parking lot and that isn't problem as long as you have the parking pass. I've seen plenty of cars fit with RVs and gf carts though. It really depends on the size of the RV.

Cabins are pretty far from the beach area but it is walkable if you aren't in a rush to get there. Maybe about 20+ min depending on which cabin loop you're in. But there are internal buses running constantly so you won't have a problem getting to the beach. We've never rented a golf cart but have family members who do and it is more convenient and fun to cart around the resort. But the buses will get you where you need to go. There's no fee for golf cart parking and there is a designated parking area in the beach. The only time I've ever found parking difficult was getting to the beach to watch the 4th of July Fireworks. And yes you can leave your golf cart there all day.

I went back and forth with staying up or waiting until morning. I get up really early anyway. I waited and was able to get everything I wanted and was still able to get all the times that I wanted. It didn't take me long at all, either.

49 days from today we check in!! Not that I am counting or anything. :lmao:

Can you rent a bike for the duration of your stay? I read that you cannot do this but just want to make sure that's accurate. Would love to do early morning rides at sunrise.

Unfortunately, no. :( I wanted to do the same thing....rent a bike for the week and ride in the very early morning. When we went the bike rentals and asked, the CM politely told me we could rent by the hour or day. I ended up not getting a bike.
