Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

7 and 10. The 7 year old has just cleared 48 inches so he can go on everything including the water parks.

We must be twins separated at birth. We are going to a water park, also. I think we planned our trips together. Which park and what day, do you know? I am such an obsessive planner, that I know our park days. We will be hitting Typhoon Lagoon on Tuesday the 9th.

Don't know yet. Trying to plan that. I love water parks so I will be following the kids down every slide. We are meeting My parents and my brother and his kids (they are staying at Wilderness Lodge). I am close to telling them what we are doing and inviting them to join us. I am not going to try to wrangle 10 people.

It would be nice to meet some people from the boards, everyone has been super helpful.

took pictures of the cardboard box oven but i do not have enough post to post pictures.

We made box ovens all the time when I was in scouts. Get a heavy duty aluminum and don't get a box too big. The more compact it is, the less charcoal you need.

yes i have used the solar but i like a constant temp when baking
i just took what was available in books (no google) and adapted
a box to fit what i wanted. Burnt quite a few boxes up during testing

We are heading out this fall again to the cabins, last year we were in loop 2100. We get a rental car and a golf cart, our priority is quiet and peace. Suggestions please? 2100 seemed great, but we are wondering if there is one even more quiet and close to nature?

Thanks Everyone!!!!

Good Morning All!

We are finally done with school!!! Sooooooo excited!! Now we only have 8 days until Disney!!! :woohoo:

Will be at WL for 10 day November 9 - 19 ... Any chance will see Christmas decorations at FW that early?

Historically, Disney starts putting up Christmas decorations a few days into November. MVMCP typically starts around mid-November. You could possibly see them, especially by the end of your trip. There's nothing like it!!! Absolutely beautiful!!:thumbsup2 Maybe you could even plan to attend the Christmas party :teeth:

Very impressive! Thanks for the visual!

:scratchin We've only requested 2100 or 2200 because it seems to be fairly close to things. But that doesn't matter because you will be fully equipped with transportation ;) From the looks of the map, if you could get one of the cabins in the 2300 or 2500 loop that back up to the canal, it might give you more peace and quiet....and you could possible see a bit more nature ::yes:: Maybe an alligator or two

We are planning a trip for 12/2015 and will be staying DVC Saturday to Saturday, but would like to arrive on Thursday before our DVC starts. I so want to stay at the cabins, and am wondering if it would be worth it on a 2 night stay. What do y'all think? It will be me, DH, DM, DDad, and a 1yo.

We stayed in a Cabin 5/23-25 - 2500 loop (2523 to be exact). It was an excellent location, IMO - very short walk to the bus stop, and laundry/quiet pool was right next to the loop. It was very quiet!

Samir, our mousekeeper, was super nice and friendly - made us a towel doll one day and a towel puppy the next! He is the type of person Disney should use as a model employee - no kidding - he was that awesome! :)

I was not impressed with Trail's End buffet for dinner. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't exactly great, either. (After having dinner there Friday night, I cancelled a breakfast reservation for Sunday morning.) The server was very nice, and everyone was friendly. I'm sure there are a lot of people who love it, but it's just not what we prefer.

The water taxi to/from the MK was fabulous, albeit crammed full each time we rode it. The internal bus service was very good, day and night - seriously never waited more than 5 minutes for one! Our experience with the bus service to the parks was not good at all, however. The Outpost bus stop was slammed, and the park buses were not plentiful or frequent. For example, we waited about 40 minutes for a bus to AK... within the 40 minutes, we saw 1 bus for DHS, 2 buses back-to-back for Epcot, and several internal buses. The bus to AK finally showed up, and we discovered it also serviced Blizzard Beach - it ended up so stuffed full that they had to turn away people to wait for the next bus. (It took 40 minutes for that one to show up - who knows how long until the next one came!) We didn't bother waiting and just drove to AK instead - I was not pleased with that at all. The guests would have been much better served if they did not combine the buses to service both AK and BB, IMO. I'm sure it's not like that all the time, but it was enough to turn me off.

We had a good weekend, and camping at FW is fun. I think we've determined that we like staying Deluxe a lot more, but FW is a pretty neat place to stay. :)

Was originally booked at Coronado Springs for November 15-21 on the free dining. Have changed over to premium site at the Fort from November 15-23 now. Coming home!

Totally do it!!! ::yes:: We've done FW before a long stay and loved it! Didn't do any parks...just relaxed at the Fort. There's so much to do there and so much to see. We'll be there next week for 4 nights before our club stay at the WL. The kids are actually more excited about going to the cabins and having a golf cart than going to the WL  :upsidedow

Thanks for your honest review of the Fort:thumbsup2 It seems that the buses can be hit or miss. Like you, we like Deluxe resorts. But we love the Fort to simply relax and enjoy the quiet laid back atmosphere. That's why we're doing another split stay...the Fort, then the WL...best of both worlds ::yes:: Aren't we lucky that Disney has so many options!

Couldn't stay away, huh?! I shall add your name to our long and distinguished list of camp-goers :teeth:
