Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

29 days and counting we have been at Disney every year from 1971 till 2014 have stayed in FW 10 times 1974 for Honeymoon in Polynesian/Contemporary 4 times 1971 was 29.00 per night/ value resorts 5 times / Port Orleans /Old Key west upgrade from value/Coronado springs now we just go to Fort wilderness as we only live 30 min away looking forward to a week of relaxation only hard day's are setup/teardown
WOW!!!! I'm so jealous. Love FW and would love living that close °0°

Hi everyone! I have never stayed at Ft. Wilderness, we are WL people...but I love the idea of staying a few days at FW Cabins and just chilling out. Never thought about how relaxing that might be, and how much the grandkids might enjoy the "camping" experience...plus I know they will love the golf cart! What we adults love about WL is likely not a big deal to our grandkids, whereas what child doesn't like the camping experience?

Thanks for giving me some food for thought! It's why I love these boards--all the different viewpoints and take on things!

We stayed in a cabin the last week in January along with our daughter, son in law and two grandsons. We all loved it. Our 4yo grandson still talks about his "cav-in"

Happy Saturday Everyone!

Here's a little more info about the cart rentals ...

Carts can be rented for $63.54/day ($59 plus tax) at the Outpost (407-824-2742). There are golf cart hook ups at each cabin and campsite as well as other places within the resort.

6 seater golf carts are available($79 plus tax) but cannot be reserved. Upon arrival, you can inquire about the 6 seater. If they are available, it will be yours. If not, you can put your name on a waiting list for the duration of your stay.

Here are a couple of links that might give you some info. There is much debate about offsite rentals. Many say it can still be done, while Disney says it's prohibited. We've personally never rented from an outside agency...it makes me nervous :upsidedow We'll be there in 17 days :dance3: so I'm going to do some serious searching for answers!

Tee Time Rentals

Golf Cart Rentals Orlando

Sun City Golf Carts (they use to do rentals...not sure if they still do or not)

Sorry, I missed this from a few weeks ago. I wanted to give information about off site rentals.

I spoke with someone from tee time golf carts, and they are not allowed to deliver carts to the resort. They will meet you at a public parking lot outside the world with your golf cart on a trailer. If you have a trailer hitch, you would hook up the trailer to your vehicle, drive to FW, unload the cart, then return the trailer to them. If your vehicle does not have a trailer hitch, they will let you borrow their truck to do the same thing. At the end of the week, it is the reverse process.

They also indicated, that if they have another rental just prior or after yours, that they try to leave the cart at the resort to avoid some of the transportation hassle.

Looking at the Fort Wilderness website, I cannot find anything that says Golf Carts not rented at FW are not allowed. I think Disney just prevents golf cart rental companies from delivering / picking up. So I don't think we are breaking any rules by bringing in an outside rental company's golf cart.

We rented from Tee Time about 4 months ago and we did have the scenario you mentioned because there was already a cart on the premises. So, we didn't have to worry about the transfer.

We have a reservation for a preferred campsite in June- this is our first time staying here. Our reservation just says "preferred", booked through AAA- how do we know which actual campsite or loop we will be in? It looks like there are 3 loops. If we're in the 300 loop, is it a far walk to the settlement depot to catch bus/ boat to park? Thanks!

You'll find out which loop/site you have upon check in.

I think we are going to do this to for 2 nights prior to our December trip next year. I love camping, but we don't want to pull out camper from VA for a week, and we would have to take 2 cars to fit everyone, but the cabin would give the camping experience a couple of days before we start into the parks, and there is a TON to do at Christmas or anytime at the campground, or just around the resorts in general.

Totally do it!!! ::yes:: We've done FW before a long stay and loved it! Didn't do any parks...just relaxed at the Fort. There's so much to do there and so much to see. We'll be there next week for 4 nights before our club stay at the WL. The kids are actually more excited about going to the cabins and having a golf cart than going to the WL  :upsidedow
The more I think about it, the more I think we will. It won't be anymore expensive than the 2 value rooms that we normally do, plus we will have more space, and have more do to at the campground then at the value resort.

We have 6:15 reservations at Hoop Dee Doo. I see there is a walking trail that leads from FL to the Wildeness Lodge. Could we walk that after the show to get to the WL or is it too far/dark?:confused3

We love the Lodge, too!! :goodvibes Isn't it a fabulous resort?! I bet you would totally enjoy a few days at the Fort before venturing over to the WL. Makes for a perfect vacation:thumbsup2

Thanks a million for the info!!! And wow...what a process to get a golf cart. Could be a hassle, but then again it might be worth the savings. Guess it's all subjective ;)

Here's a link for the Fort map. It looks like the bus stop is super close...might not be a long walk at all :thumbsup2 Like dansdad said, you'll get your loop/site # when you check in. Did you request a specific loop/site??

:thumbsup2 Give it a try!! And you're right about having more to do at the Fort. We've done the values, also, and the kids liked them. BUT....give them a choice and they'll pick the cabins every time ::yes::

There is a trail between the two resorts...maybe a 20-30 minute walk. However, when the sun goes down, it gets rather dark on the trail .

We were staying at WL last year and did Hoop Dee Doo, and used the boat transportation. The boat transportation is very close to Hoop Dee Doo at FW. Everyone on the boat was also at the show, so it was a fun ride, talking about the show. While the walk might be nice, I highly recommend the boat ride.

28 days till we arrive for a 10 night premium site stay, plus a golf cart reserved with Tee Time!!!!! This will be in the middle of a 10 week rv journey.

Howdy Folks!

We're beginning to plan our 20th anniversary trip for next year, and we have a few questions...

1. We're thinking of going in early Nov 2015 during our actual anniversary, or maybe early Dec instead. If you had to choose, which time would you go? I know that if we go in Dec we'll have the advantage of all the Christmas decorations, but will the crowds be better in Nov? As much as we would love to see all the Christmas decorations, we would skip it if we'd have a more relaxing time in Nov.

2. Do they still run most of the activities in the fall and winter? Things such as Chip and Dale's campfire and such.

3. Is it really as quiet as most reviews would lead you to believe? We visited there last year for dinner at Trails End, and thought it would be really relaxing to stay there. We've always wanted to try the cabins anyway, as we have a big family and the themeing is right up our alley. Speaking of, are there any plans for a refurb of the cabins before we go? I hope not, as we like the way they look now.

We had originally planned to stay at the Poly, but after seeing what they have planned for the place, all I can say is... :crazy2:. It's like they're turning a beautiful, relaxing resort into a freak show. I live in New Jersey...everyday is a freak show. :lmao: It's a shame since we really enjoyed staying on the monorail. GF is out since it's too pricey and the new room refurbs sucked the fun right out of the rooms. So FW cabins it is! :thumbsup2

We have gone in December and January. Both times were nice weather and crowds. Our Jan stay was at FW cabin...great!! The campground loops are great for touring during the Christmas season. Yes, we went to the Chip & Dale campfire on Jan. Highly recommend!
We are going in December again this year (first time alone), but were not staying at FW this time.
Check out the Hoop Dee Doo, fireworks and water parade at the marina. Renting a golf cart is a lot if fun too. It makes the loop cruising a lot easier!

Love this thread! I have camped here before but I will be staying at the Cabins for the first time July 4th Weekend. I am very excited!!

I have family staying at the campsites. What cabin should I request close to campsites or does this vary depending on the location of said campsite?

There's a campground map on page 1 of this thread. Might help you get a feel for location of sites/cabins.

Howdy Folks!

We're beginning to plan our 20th anniversary trip for next year, and we have a few questions...

Never too soon to start planning :teeth: And early congratulations to y'all:goodvibes That's awesome that you will be celebrating 20 years of marriage!

:scratchin Well....you can still take advantage of the Christmas decorations in November. Historically, they start decorating the first or second week. If I'm not mistaken, MVMCP starts mid-November, too. The closer you get to Thanksgiving, the crazier it gets with crowds. My parents went a couple of years ago the very first week in December...like a Monday-Friday and the parks were empty.

2. Do they still run most of the activities in the fall and winter? Things such as Chip and Dale's campfire and such.

All year:thumbsup2 I believe MBYBBQ is only seasonal, though. The HDDR runs all year, also...an awesome dinner show!!! We've done it several times and still will go back.

3. Is it really as quiet as most reviews would lead you to believe? We visited there last year for dinner at Trails End, and thought it would be really relaxing to stay there. ::yes:: Several years ago we visited just to walk around...liked it. Then went to the HDDR...loved it! Then decided it was time to try the cabins....REALLY loved it! The Fort is like another vacation area within Disney. Lots to do and totally gives you a more relaxed experience while at the World. As far as the refurb goes, I haven't heard of anything.

We had originally planned to stay at the Poly, but after seeing what they have planned for the place, all I can say is... :crazy2:. It's like they're turning a beautiful, relaxing resort into a freak show! I live in New Jersey...everyday is a freak show! So FW cabins it is! :thumbsup2

:rotfl2:

We love the Poly, too...but the construction has taken over the entire place  We're going to be eating at Ohana in a couple of weeks, so I plan to get plenty of pictures of the madness ;)

You could call and make a request. They could try and get you as close as possible. Like neeleyd said, you might want to look at the map, then decided what will work best for your family.

I cant seem to find this answer.....do I need to bring filters for the larger coffee maker in the cabins? Leaving in a couple days :)
