:cloud9: DS and I just got back from seeing it in IMAX for my birthday. It was wonderful, so, so sweet and emotional. It made me want to wrap my "trunk" around DS and nuzzle his head. Run, don't walk, to see this movie. See it in 3D if you can. We didn't but there are many scenes that would be fantastic in that format.

We saw it on Tuesday (won tickets to a preview). I wasn't impressed. It was so far from the original movie that I was disappointed. Perhaps those unfamiliar with the original might like it.

I'm so over the "live action remakes" that Disney has been putting out.
Granted, it’s a very different story, well I guess the same but different is a better way to put it. It makes perfect sense to have changed it so there is no dialogue between the animals.

I wonder how that will work in the Lion King live-action since it has zero human characters? In this movie Dumbo was CGA but but all the other animals appeared to be real (except maybe for the mice). To anthropomorph all the characters in the Lion King, the trailer makes it appear that they’re all CGA and at that point is it even live-action anymore?

My 12 year old daughter went to see it with her friends and she said she loved it. Dumbo is her favourite Disney character though and she’s been long anticipating this movie.

First of all, :bday: Have you gotten my gift yet? Hopefully it didn’t get hung up in customs...

Secondly, I don’t think I can handle this movie. I’m still emotionally scarred from the original.

Was that $3 off an oil change coupon in my mailbox from you? That was very thoughtful! :thanks:

This one really doesn't have a ton of drama/suspense - the story is predictable and a very happy ending. Visually it's a pretty movie and I liked the casting. I found it emotional but mostly as a mother/son thing. Honestly - I had to restrain myself from reaching out and taking DS's hand but he would have flipped his actual **** if I'd tried it. Enjoy tender moments with that little one of yours while you still can. ;)

I jsut saw it. I really enjoyed it and I like that it's different from the original. These shot-for-shot remakes are the ones that bore me. I though it was great!

Dgd and I just got back from seeing it!! We loved it! If anyone is not seeing it because they liked the original, go see it! It is different but in a great way! I always loved the classic Dumbo but this one is better!

@ronandannette I'm sorry I missed your birthday but it sounds like you enjoyed it anyway. Not sure if I'll see the movie, I'm a die-hard Disney animation fan, the remakes are just sorta pointless to me.

:dumbo:As @luvsJack mentioned, it's the same but very different so you could consider it a whole 'nother thing, if that would help. It's a truly great family film if you ever need to kill a couple of hours with your DGD's. IMO the only thing it was missing was music - there wasn't a single musical number in the entire movie and that struck me as particularly un'Disney-esque.

Is it sad?

The original "Dumbo" was one of our older son's very favorite movies when he was little. And "Baby Mine" has been special between us - we'll probably dance to it at his wedding.

Well, he's a senior this year, & I'm just not sure I can handle a sad, bittersweet "Dumbo" - especially if he & I go together. Or, really, even I see it w/o him...

Right now, as I type, I'm looking at a Jim Shore "Dumbo" figurine he gave me for Mother's Day one year.

It has some emotional parts. That song is in the movie just not all of it.

And I know just what you mean with your son. Dd’s favorite movie is Aladdin and Jasmine her all time favorite princess. The trailer for Aladdin came on before Dumbo and just hearing the beginning of “A Whole New World” had the tears streaming.

I took my 3 year old granddaughter last week. We liked it. She got a bit antsy near the end but that a 3 year old for you. I thought it was done very well. I liked the new story. Predictable yes but still cute. I thought Danny DeVito stole the show. He was so good in it.

No, IMO it's not sad. Poignant, yes in parts, especially for the mom of a son. But the main story line of the original, which was the abuse Dumbo suffered at the hands of the people and other circus animals, is just a jumping-off point for this one. As has been mentioned several times, it's a very predictable story with a happy ending, so great for little kids (and tender-hearted mommas!). :flower3:

I saw it last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. So much better than Christopher Robin that came out a while ago.

This is an interesting thread since all of the movie reviewers I follow did not like this movie.
