A couple questions
1. Anyone know if they shut the waterslide down by the pool during the "winter season" or is it more of a day by day thing?
2. Anyone have a pic of the private dining menu for other choices (choc. covered strawberries for my DW)?

The slide is open today and has been all week. Allearsnet has the room service menu for the CR up on their site: http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/men_conrs.htm

If I was wrong that the Pinocchio gingerbread display was on display last year, then my bad on my part. Maybe it was not there a few years ago and I got it confused with last year.

crazy4wdw,
Can you say what area's of the lobby are still being renovated and which are finished?

I miss the lights they used to put on the balconies.

Yes, I miss them too. I assume you are referring to the lights & garlands that were hung from the balconies inside of the tower? They also had a huge Christmas tree that was hung from the top of the concourse and was over the area with the shops - that was spectacular. There was also a few years when they had a hot air ballon hung from the top of the inside of the concourse with Christmas decorations inside of the basket - that was neat as well. The Christmas decorations have really taken a hit at the CR over the last 10 years or so.

Are you referrring to the bright standard colour lights that were on the balconies?

CR Fan: You're not correct on this. I stayed at the CR the first week of December last year and the Pinocchio display was up in the first floor lobby just to the right of the scorcerer mickey statue was . I have some pics which I posted of it somewhere on the board.

Addition: I found the thread I posted last year that has pics of the display: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1287604&page=3&highlight=live+from+contemporary

That display looks pretty incredible! Thanks for posting the link to the old thread :)

No, I don't think so. At one time, the CR had garlands with lights that were placed on the balconies/terraces inside of the tower; I'm referring to the ones which overlook the Grand Canyon Concourse. They haven't put these up for at least 10 years.

I think I remember what you are referring to.

I remember that tree. I always wondered why they stopped doing that. It was really impressive.

Hey Everyone...

Just was at the CR Nov 29th - Dec 8th...just got back last night. Loved the CR...my kids absouletely loved it there....any questions ask away....would be happy to answer any.

And yes I'm crazy...lol...but while I was there, we booked the same time for next year. My DH and I were talking about it...and CR seems to book so fast, especially since they tore down the other garden building....so we booked it...so the planning begins again :rotfl2:

Hey Everyone...

Hey Kim: just got back from my CR trip also, about one hour ago. Boy, did the week go fast. Every time I was walking into or out of my room, I would look over to the 7th floor thinking I just might see star! I was in room 4534 on the 9th floor. I went ahead and booked my room for 2008 also. I tried to book with the bounce back offer but nothing past 9/29. I'm going a week later next year, 12/7-12/14/08.

Kim,
Welcome back and it's good to see you and you're family enjoyed the Contemporary. Also congragulations on making you're reservation there for next year.

crazy4wdw,
Welcome back to you and thanks for posting some live reports while you were there. Just like I said to Kim congragulations on making you're reservations for next year.

I do have one question so I guess either one of you can answer it. How is the construction in the lobby since you left from there? Is it almost done or still taking longer then expected?

When I left this morning, the lobby area was still walled off. It appears that they have finished the ceiling and are working on installing a new tile pattern on the walls. The floor is still down to the concrete. I would think that Disney would want the lobby completed before the big Christmas rush in the next week or so - It's hard to determine how much further they have to go. They were not working on it during the weekends. They still have to install the doors on the new shop on the 4th floor. They have a security guard in the store after it closes.

Yes Fan, we loved it. The construction in the lobby is exactly how Crazy described it. The workers seem to be working on it on the 3rd shift. I was doing laundry one night...(which was a fiasco)...and when I was returning to my room through the lobby at about 1:45 am...they were all working in the lobby full force. I would imagine it will be done before Christmas...then again you never know.

I know it did go by fast...but I am totally exhausted at the same time. I need a vacation :rotfl2:

Ditto...was always looking over at the 9th...I know we had to be across from one another...we were 4304 on the 7th. I also tried the bounce back...but no go either. When I called to reserve the room, I was able to get the AAA room only discount for now....15% is better than nothing and we got that on this vacation. I have 12/5 - 12/13 reserved....way funny! I did ask the CM if there was any PIN attached to my name...she said "yes"...but of course that was short lived because she said oh it's for this year...from sept - dec 28th....:scared1: Dec 28th? I called on few occassion asking...and they said no PIN...not this time frame...then the CM's wonder why us DIS'ers call every day and ask the same questions :rotfl: "is there a pin associated with my name?" Anyhows....making sure I call at least weekly as the trip approaches this time.

So Crazy...might be changing my name to Crazy also...I can't believe I am already glancing at airfare for next year....I'm not even UNPACKED yet....:rotfl2: ....

Thank you both for that information. Even though I won't be posting while I stay at the Poly, I will be visiting the Contemporary and after WDW when my family and I are in Clearwater Beach, I will post from there if the lobby has been finished or other lobby updates unless someone posts it before me. The Hotel we stay at has a Business Center with free Internet use, so that is how I can give any Contemporary updates.

I got the AAA rate also which I was not able to get for this year's trip. I can't believe we're going about the same time next year!:rotfl:

Are you referrring to the bright standard colour lights that were on the balconies?

I was wondering if they were referring to the red and green lights that they used to put in the support beams. You know how they have the clusters of 16 lights in a square between the balconies on the support columns? They used to replace those with squares of red and green bulbs, just on the front side of the tower. It made it look very festive at night, with the big red poinsettia tree out front with a big white star on top. I haven't seen them do the red and green lights in a long time, probably since they quit doing the concourse decorations inside. The funny thing about the garland swags they hung on the hallways leading to the elevators - they didn't hang them at the same level on both sides. So if you were facing the elevators, there might be one on the left on the fifth floor, on the right on the 6th floor, on the left on the seventh floor, and so on.

Does anyone remember the little skit they used to do when they had the hot air balloon decoration? They had christmas tree cactus' along the top of Bay View Gifts, and they had someone "light" the cactus' with gunfire. They also had a band that would play (I remember hearing Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer over, and over, and over, while having dinner at the Steakhouse). I also remember the huge tree they used to hang. It was really something to stand underneath it, because it was hollow inside - a bunch of concentric rings with tinsel fringe hanging down.

Ah, those were the good old days!
