What exactly is a "light renovation"? Does anyone have pictures? Thanks for the info and have an amazing trip!

Light renovation means they did not do as much work in renovating the rooms up there, compared to all the other rooms at the Contemporary which got a full renovation and a whole new look.

PrincessBear....

The 14th Floor received only a "soft" rehab. What that means is....all the furniture stayed the same. The bathrooms stayed the same (old deep sinks, etc.). They did change the bedding, and the curtains. I believe that's it. :thumbsup2

Just a quick update on our stay here at the Contemporary, Atrium Club. Everything I read on the DIS about the rooms is accurate: good overall room design but poor storage options, especially for three adults staying for a week as we are doing. I ended up putting DH's clothing in the two drawers near the desk, my clothing in the two tiny drawers in the closet (and stacked up in the closet) and DS's are still in his suitcase on the luggage stand. And I did place the empty suitcases in one of the closets and the extra space in the "water closet". We love the abundance of lighting options: slider lights on each side of the headboards, table lamp, lighted closet doors, TV cabinet light, pole lamp in corner and decent bathroom lighting. DH said to be sure I mentioned that the TV doesn't swivel or move making it a bit difficult to see from the bed closer to the balcony but that's not a big deal. Contrary to some posts we have used the underdesk table all over the room. Now I want a similar one for my scrapbooking area in our new house!

Proved the poor sink design the very first night when I went in to change and carelessly laid my nightshirt on the edge of one of the sinks - soaked up that clear pool of water right away!!!

We really like the Concierge staff here, especially compared to the rather chilly, charmless CMs we experienced at the WL Old Faithful Club last year. One CM who checked us in went out of his way to find us a Magic Kingdom View room when I expressed disappointment over being assigned Bay View initially. All the CMs on this level are so friendly, smile and ask how your visit is going. When we decided we wanted two additional ADRs yesterday they happily went ahead and worked on getting them. One CM also told us that the rates will change to charge higher for Concierge MK View vs. Concierge Bay View just as for the other tower rooms.

Concierge lounge offerings seem adequate but I miss the soft drinks and beer cooler that kept these items chilled at the WL. And the early morning offerings seemed wider at the WL also. It's satisfactory and the CMs are wonderful about keeping the tables and area spotless.

Our room is down on the Chef Mickey's end but the noise rarely bothers us; the food smells do tempt me to eat constantly though!

FYI - Internet info: Internet service is completely free for Atrium Club members with their own computers. The little Disney internet screens come up but the balance is always $0.00. I have successfully uploaded pictures to Photobucket etc. I wasn't sure about the free service from what I read here on the DIS.

And you cannot upload photos to sites such as Photobucket on the in-room computer provided by Disney although we have found that you can access e-mail on just about any service you can think of.

The new gift shop seems finished except for the doors are missing and it really is nice.

Oh, when we were coming back on the bus from the AK today we saw a CM sweeping our balcony which greatly pleased DH but it didn't really help much. Those birds are amazingly messy and numerous! Doesn't keep me from sitting out there (or at least it won't starting tomorrow when the weather really warms up again).

If you have any questions I'll try to answer since I plan to be check in every day.

We were JUST there last week! CJ was AWESOME! Hubby was so spoiled that he went from "I will go to Disney JUST for the kids" to now saying he will only go if we get to stay at CR concierge floor again! (We were upgraded with a wish)

We just booked MK view tower room, are those all renovated? How hard will it be to get something close by if my parents decide to join us? TIA!

Yes, they are all renovated. Depending on how far out your trip is, your parents may not be able to get a MK view room, but the garden wings stay available longer. Your probaly only looking at a maximum 10 minute walk from any tower room to the furthest garden wing room.

Just back from the CR MK view 10th floor. Rooms are gorgeous and they were clean everyday. Our room was made up everyday while we were at breakfast. What service!!! This was our daughters first trip and it was the most amazing experience ever!! Fireworks wonderful from balcony. I thought that I would want to try other hotels around "the world" but for nowwhile my daughter is young, we won't stay anywhere else. Convenience, convenience, convenience!!! Perfect trip.princess:

When I was there last week, I had a "wet" sink that I used to wash, and used the other as a "dry" sink, to hold toiletries, towels, etc. Being a solo trip, it was easy to keep straight which was which (although having all the stuff in the "dry" sink helped too). I noticed that water didn't drain out of the wet sink for hours. Although they really look nice, they weren't the best choice from a practical standpoint.

I noticed more birds at CR than usual, but when I was over at Poly, the birds were REALLY bad. My first thought was the movie The Birds. The roofs of some of the longhouses looked like they had black shingles, there were so many birds. They were noisy too! I've never really noticed them being so bad before. I wonder if it has something to do with the weather being warmer than usual?

Another CR room update: We came back from Epcot today to find a beautiful new radio/clock in the room. Since it is an "I-Home" you can play your i-pod or Shuffle on it too! DS thinks it's just another accessory but I think it's really neat!

Hello from the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World! Man, that felt great to say. :woohoo: We got back from EMH at Epcot at 1:40 and found that the lobby construction seems to be finished. There's now a TV wall and viewing area across from the front desk concierge. I can't download pictures from my camera here, so I'll post them after we get home on Christmas or so. :santa:

With all the construction going on in the CR, have they removed the huge gameroom that we have been used to for all these years??? My DS(6) will be so disappointed if this is true.:sad1:

I can definately agree to this! We're currently at CR as well, and also discovered that there really isn't any where to put your clothes when taking a shower...no hooks or shelving other than one hook in the toilet room. Since both sinks had puddles of water, I stacked them in the little space between. Unfortunately, I didn't remember the little soap dish was there...which promptly went crashing to the floor when I moved my clothes! :headache:

Also, our Mousekeeping today wasn't that great...they made the beds and left one clean towel. No toiletries or washclothes...I guess they think we're clean enough :rotfl:

I cannot rave enough about our room at the Contemporary!!!! We had the MK view on the 11th floor and it was SPECTACULAR!!!!!! :yay:  :thumbsup2 (I'll post pics when we get them all off the camera) I definately recommend the MK view rooms to anyone thinking about staying at the Contemporary.
BTW...We took so many pics of the view out of the room that we didn't take any of the resort or the room itself and we ran out of memory on our 3 memory cards. :sad2: Does anyone on here happen to have any pics of the outside of the resort and of the rooms??? (Personal use only...I promise!!)I'm going to be starting my scrapbook soon and those would be some great pics to put in there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've tried on the scrapbooking board and no one on there so far has any.

Coffee?

We're heading to the Contemporary in February - and I need to know where my Mom can get her coffee first thing each morning...

I keep reading about NesCafe - Is that the truth? Is there no where she can find a real, brewed cup of coffee at the resort?

:scared1: :surfweb: :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I started to read through the posts for this answer, but gave up.
What type of transportation goes to the different parks from CR.
Also, about how long does it take on average to get to the different parks?
Thanks!

Contemporary Grounds, use to be on the first fllor but I am not sure now with the construction. Or brew it in the room.

Contemporary Grounds was still on the first floor when I was there about two weeks ago. I'ts near the exit to the convention center. It has your usual assortment of lattes, cappuccios, espressos, etc. Much better than other coffee served at Disney.
