Disney's CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information & Questions

That's exactly why we bailed on WL for CR. I admit I'm a tiny bit envious of your tower MK view room, though! :p
Well, I think it was a way of them being nice just because of their multiple communication errors and the treatment I got from two different CM's was terrible. Also, I have mobility issues so, maybe that was a factor? GW looks super tranquil. There are pics of the end of the "T" right by the lake that would be so beautiful.

I'm curious if it's possible to upgrade your room when you check in (willing to pay price difference, not asking for free upgrades) if you booked with the free dining package. Obviously we are making the presumption that there is availability for such a room when we check in. I would love to switch from garden wing at CR to tower w/MK view if at all possible when we check in. :p

As KOOK posted, it never hurts to ask :).

I thought I read last year that AAA's discount agreement with Disney was ending?

I thought I read that too :confused3.

Crazy, huh? I would have thought he'd be banned after arrest #1, but apparently you need to be wearing a MB to make yourself known to Disney Security:rolleyes2

So are you and the family substituting another location for WDW this summer? I'm sure I'll be posting photos/updates;)

LOL.....I thought the same thing.

Nothing planned for this summer. We have been keeping busy here at home, so I figured I'd start thinking about a trip next summer :goodvibes.

Looking forward to your review and pics of the Poly :).

On another note, I see I've been upgraded to Dis Veteran! So totally awesome! I think this calls for a glass of wine!

:thumbsup2

For the most part, peace of mind won. You can't put a price on that.

I agree, will make for a stress-free trip :wizard:.

Hi everybody! I'm reading through this thread now as we're booked for a split trip November. Nov 8th-12th at Yacht Club & 12th -16th at Contemporary. Can't wait!!!

When we've traveled before to Disney I wasn't aware of this board. Lots of info I never knew. How awesome. :)

HAHA - you'd get caught at the elevator and never make it - good one. You'd have to run out the front down World Drive or hop in your speedboat out back. But, that might not work well since you'd get caught at another resort's dock…unless you dock at River Country and try and blend in at Mickeys Backyard BBQ before sneaking over to the Trail's End bar where THIS happened in May:

Deputies arrested a 27-year-old Ohio man early Monday after an apparent drunken night at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort.

Andrew Hall, of Mentor, Ohio, was arrested after being rescued by a Walt Disney World marine unit, which found him struggling to stay afloat in the middle of Bay Lake, according to an Orange County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Before that, deputies said Hall was drinking at the resort's restaurant and attempted to leave on a bicycle, according to the report.

He then "dove below the surface beyond sight," the report states. When he came back up, Hall was going in and out of consciousness, gasping for breath, according to the report.

Deputies said someone from the marine unit jumped in, swam to him and pulled him into the boat.

Emergency medical crews met them on shore and took Hall to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

He was then booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of disturbing the peace at a public lodging establishment, grand theft and criminal mischief, according to the report.

Deputies said the damage to the golf cart and pier cost about $5,000.

Hall is being held on $2,500 bail.

What great plans you have - lots of fun trips and cruises, too. I only have the WDW trip next month with DD booked. Last Christmas, we went to our favorite "historic colonial attraction" in VA and it was so nice only driving a few hours from home and not worrying about potentially bad weather ruining our travel plans, so we may do that again.

The parking lot is right smack-dab in front of the GW/SV rooms:

:yay:

Welcome! You're right next door and still on Bay Lake:)

Take a look at 2:21 and 3:44 in this AllEars BLT One Bedroom video. It looks like it could go right in front of the sink (or on the balcony hehe):

Welcome back. Why did you decide not to take the $100/night credit, peace of mind?

You took the words right out of my keyboard:thumbsup2. In one word, CR is iconic and where else has the monorail running right through the resort?! CR's location was originally planned to have a walking path right to Tomorrowland, hence its "futuristic" theming.

It won't hurt to ask. I've asked once at Poly, I believe and they quoted the price difference between the discounted rate I paid and the CL rate with the same discount, but that was many years ago.
Jeez! Summer really brings out the crazies to WDW!! Oh wait, I was just there. And you're going in a few weeks. Hmmm. So like I said, summer brings out.... :rotfl2:

Enjoy your trip!! The winter VA trip sounds nice as well.

I really wish they built (or would still build) the walkway (or back entrance) right into Tomorrowland for CR/BLT guests. It is annoying doing the walk and passing space mountain half-way through the walk. It would save a lot of time. But then it would give even more incentive for people to play parking games at the CR lots.

This is awesome. Thanks so much. Yep, it will definitely fit in front of that sink. It was hard to judge from the floor plans how big the bathroom was but the video leaves no doubt :-).

As far as the theming goes, I don't think the CR needs much. The Mary Blair mural in the concourse screams WDW for me, as does Chef Mickeys, and that feeling of just knowing how close you are to the MK!
That said..
About a month ago or so, I asked about the round yellow decorative pillows on the beds, and while some folks said they are still there, I've been peeking on TripAdvisor, and they most certainly seem to be gone, and the fact that they're being sold on Ebay as "retired" seems to cement the deal. I do think this is a shame, as those gave the room a nice pop of color and reminded me (as I assume they were meant to) of the buttons on Mickey's pants. It was a perfect way to add some whimsy to an otherwise sleek and modern design. The rooms look boring and unfinished now without them. i hope I'm wrong, and I'll see in person in less than a month but if they really have retired those cute pillows, I hope they replace them with something!

They had them back in Dec 2014 :)

Kook, Could you please add my DH & myself to the list coming in Sept 7th thru 10th. 14th floor Club king room. Thanks

Oh, I love those yellow pillows! I hope they are there! The Msry Blair mural is amazing! Her style is absolutely timeless and absolutely Disney. Need to ride IASW now. It was closed in April.

Getting excited for this trip now.

We salute you, Dis Veteran! (Mickey doesn't know how to salute properly though…)

We had them on the 11th floor in April, but I know some rooms haven't had them.

Hello everyone! I am a WL transfer due to construction, but hope you'll still have me! ;) I'll be staying 10/29-11/3 with my husband and 2 year old son. It will be my son's first trip and we're super excited. We'll be staying in the Garden Wing. Now I'm off to read all 143 preceding pages to get myself ready!

We did not have the yellow pillows in our room when we stayed Atrium CL this past May.

Did you take your Sea Raycer over here? Welcome to the thread and let us know if we can help. I think your DS will love CM and the monorail:)

Welcome to the CR thread :wizard:.

I hope you are finding the information you want/need on the CR. Feel free to ask any questions as there are some very friendly and knowledgeable posters here who are always willing to help :goodvibes:.

You never know...lol. I'm not really planning anything for this year, but a quick trip in December is always a possibility ;).

Welcome to the CR thread :flower3:.

How exciting to be planning your son's first trip. I'm sure you'll have a great time at the CR :goodvibes.

Is anyone at CR now or have any recent room pictures? I have been looking online but, there are old/newer pictures out there. Specifically, I see pics with something like a whiteboard above the head of the beds? Is this current and what exactly is it? I don't think I like this style at all....

The photos that are in the ROOM chapter of the thread are what the rooms currently look like (though some rooms don't have the pillows). The only rooms with a different decor are the 14th floor Tower Club level rooms/suites. I took these in April:

Gorgeous! How was your stay? Thank you for posting some photos. Did you take any of the Tower Club lounge? I'm going to post your photos later to the CL chapter.

Looking at your signature, you've had/will have so many great stays at Disney resorts - wow!
