A king room connected to a standard room was our standard way of staying at CBR when our kids were teenagers and still came with us. I just booked a king room and a standard room, linking the two reservations with a request that the rooms be connected. Got it every time, too. If I recall correctly, I phoned Disney to make the reservations to ensure that we had it all set up correctly.

So, I'm presuming you booked a standard room and a king room? The king room is an added cost room so if you didn't book one you likely won't get one. Regardless, I'd certainly call soon and make any changes and or requests before you get there. Just my two cents worth. :)

We booked to standard rooms but I may ask if there is anything they could do to 'upgrade' us. I never wanted to spend the extra money for the king as you actually get more sleeping space in two doubles, now two queens, but it would be nice to have the king for once.

Arrived today! It's as pretty as I remembered. We had a preferred room booked, but I faxed a request for a refurbished room. They gave us a preferred room. I was really polite and was just lucky to have a really nice CM. He called the "back" and got us into Barbados. I was thrilled. I don't like the ground floor, but I'm so happy with the newly refurbished room.
I'll check out Martinique tomorrow and give an update on the refurbishment there.
Thanks to everyone on this thread : )

So you paid for a preferred room, but wanted a standard? I think that's the first time I've read of that happening.;)

Did they refund you the difference at least?

OK, for those worried about Mousekeeping, here in building 46 and Mousekeeping has been great. the room was nice and clean when we arrived...cute folded elephant when we returned, fully restocked on everything.

So far, so good.

The general rule of thumb is if you ASK for an upgrade, it may be offered at cost - meaning you'd have to pay the price difference if the desired room is available.

Occasionally there will be a pixie dust upgrade (last year they had "upgraded" me to a pirate room - not an upgrade IMHO, so I asked and they "downgraded" me to what I'd reserved - before I arrived, so there was no additional charge), but those are actually far less common than reading this board would have you believe.

The rule of thumb both on the cruise line and at the land-based resorts is book the category you will be happy with. Do not count on an upgrade. If you're not going to be happy without that 2 queen/1 king connecting rooms being able to happen, then you need to suck it up and pay the upgrade change.

I don't think a king room is an upgrade, tbh. When I was costing up, the price for a king was the same as for a standard 2 x double. The upgrades relate to preferred rooms or water view rooms.

What I find interesting is that there's no option for a preferred water view : does this mean that all preferred rooms - be they car park, courtyard or water view - are all the same price?

None of the preferred rooms are refurbished. They are starting them in January. I didn't know that when I booked. I'd rather have queen beds in a new room than be close to OPR. I couldn't switch from preferred to standard prior to arrival because it would have messed with the Free Dining. I didn't ask for a refund but he gave me one : )

Sorry Toffee, but the only way you can guarantee a king bed is to pay for when you book. It does cost more and since there aren't very many to be had in Disney, those of us who want them, stay at resorts where you can pay for it and KNOW that you will be sleeping in a king-sized bed. And i can tell you that the extra space in the bed is a welcome change if you sleep on a smaller bed with a kicker :rotfl2:

Just left CBR, waiting for our flight home. My general impressions of CBR are:

- landscaping is beautiful
- food court is very nice
- sit down restaurant was mediocre at best, long wait for a table even when the place was half empty and a gristly steak (I have had far better from Walmart)
- bus service went well
- we really missed the features of POR (Bob Jackson show and boats to DTD)
- room nice and clean, but there isn't much to the interior theming - bland. We were in a remodeled room.
- we had a lake view near the pool in Aruba, nice location

If anyone is there now, could you tell us about the special Christmas activities? I heard there will be special activities going on the closer we get to Christmas. Thank you!

So excited! I was just able to switch our family of 5 from POR to CBR for August!! Now I can start getting excited! Let the planning begin :cool1:

January will be our 6th stay at CBR... my wife and I and 3 kids (10,8,6) have made the week of Martin Luther King Day a yearly tradition as the crowds after Monday are minimal.
Our first trip was in 2010 and we have been every year since. We are excited to see the refurbished rooms (hopefully) this trip. The old rooms were getting tired for sure.
We get two connecting rooms and have stayed in every village so far except Trinidad North. I'm wondering I'd anyone has ever gotten connecting rooms, one with a king and one with 2 doubles (now queens)? We didn't book this but I was going to ask at check in, or in a fax, if we could get this.
Lastly, using DME to get to the airport, I know they pick you up at your room 4 hours before your flight... Has anyone ever been picked up like 3 hours prior to your flight? We always end up at our gate far too early and I'm sure you all know how that goes with 3 kids.

DME has always picked us up 3 hours prior to our flight, but they pick up from the Custom House.

Well, I did what I said I was finished doing...I made a change to our reservation.

Changed from a Standard View to Water/Pool view.

I think I have a problem :lmao:

I'm aware DME picks up at the Custom House but bell services picks us up at our room 4 hours prior to our flight. When I call the ask what time out flight is and they give us a pick up time and it's always 4 hours before our flight. Maybe we will just walk to the Custom House if we are close.

International flights have pick-up times of 4hrs in advance. If you are close to Custom house, you could walk. If not, arrange transportation the night before. Have a great trip! :goodvibes
