Typhoon lagoon

I like the area that was once the Shark Reef attraction. Even on a busy day the area is quiet which I enjoyed. There are some chairs with umbrellas but not that many. There is also a bar over there that never had a line the entire time I was at the park. I plan on sitting over there when I visit next month.

And if you are staying at a WDW Resort and are a little damp when leaving, you can take towels with you back to your Resort.

We were just at Typhoon Lagoon in the last week and they provided towels for free to everyone.

We arrived at park opening and made it our first priority to find something in the shade. Claiming chairs is everyone's clear first priority. We were able to find one in a semi-shaded area for our family of four---which was fine for us. We went into the park with the strategy of not bringing anything valuable or wearing anything of value on us the entire time. Husband and I wore our cell phones on our necks in water proof lanyard pouches, I put a credit card in mine with my phone.

Keep in mind that some shaded areas are shaded in the morning and then aren't so much in the afternoon and vice versus. I would also recommend to pack your patience this year for the water parks---it was the busiest we've ever seen. Seems like alot of people are taking advantage of the free water park day on check-in day at Disney Resorts. Every water slide was at least 30 minutes if not longer after the first 60 minutes.
Glade they let you on rides with a water proof pouch. I have an insulin pump that should be waterproof but I do not want to take a chance on it getting ruined. How was the lines for skids the first hour to hour and a half.

I started to post this last night too after I remember reading that article but, do we know if it’s actually true?

I’m only asking as I went to the Disney website to support my point and both the TL and BB pages clearly state free towels are only for resort guests. Now I’m confused!

Are there any guests reading this who have visited either WP recently who have borrowed towels? Did you need to provide proof of staying at a Disney resort or, were they available to everyone? I’m hoping they’re available to all but the website has me confused.

Thanks!
Yes, we went to both last month and both had towels out for the taking. They definitely offer to all.

I was at TL on 7/2 and they were just handing towels out no questions asked outside of Singapore Sal's. Only thing they asked me was how many I wanted.

To all the rides close as soon as it rains? Do they run through the rain and only close due to lightning?
Lightning… yep you won’t be sliding down Keelhaul Falls or any slides there when the storms contain lightning within range of Typhoon Lagoon. If the slides were open for less than 4 hours, rain checks may be issued.

Off topic but I have an insulin pump, too and just bought a waterproof case/housing for it. It was pricey but I did not want to disconnect and worry about my blood sugar nor my pump getting ruined because it was submerged. It’s also supposed to protect the insulin from extreme temps.

Is there a way to know ahead of time if the parking lot is full? We are think of going around 4 today for the last few hours; hoping the lot empties a bit with early arriving guests leaving by then??

We were there in July and talked to a CM during a thunderstorm closure. The CM told us that they will close slides/pools if there is lighting within a 6 mile radius. Once they close, they re-check every 30 minutes to see if there is still lightning within a 6 mile radius and then either re-open or stay closed for another 30 minutes. You are welcome to stay in the park during a closure, and the restaurants and shops generally stay open. If you luck out, the park will typically clear out pretty significantly when they close and, if you're lucky and they reopen, the park will be pretty empty - didn't happen to us, unfortunately. Stayed for about 45 minutes and then decided to leave.

I would think you'll probably be fine finding a spot by that time on most days. That is check-in time for most people, and a lot of people will be getting their room is ready notification and leaving the park.

We waited out what became a 2 hour+ storm closure a few weeks ago at BB. It was one of those storms that was mostly heavy extended rain with just enough lighting somewhere in the extended radius to keep the clock going. Once it finally did reopen it was marvelous - we basically had the place to ourselves.
