I just wanted to pop in and say Hi!! We will be staying at that the AKL in December for the first time! My kids are very excited about it. We are booked for a water/pool view. It was a hard choice but we really couldn't see spending any more on a room that time of year with Christmas and all. My kids loved the pool view at WL and said that they would be very happy with it at the AKL. I feel a little bad as my In-laws will be there and my SIL and her kids and they will all have a savanna view room. Please tell me my kids are not going to be disappointed in the water/pool view. They said they liked the idea of being close to the pool(they love to swim when it is not to cold) and the food court and such. I also told them that there are lots of places to look out at the animals. They don't seem to mind that they will not have a savanna view. I am know they are just going to be happy being back at Disney World.

I love all the pictures that I have seen on this thread and I think I have just about read all the posts.

....higher floor; they STILL may be able to see animals from your room. Also, ask for a room further out of the wing. Remember, too, that there is no food court, but Mara is pretty awesome for breakfasts, snacks, or quick lunch or dinner! Reasonably priced and a varied selection on the "menus"...you are gonna LOVE AKL!

DH and I stayed at AKL twice in the past years !!!!!!
AKL is AWESOME !!!!!! YOUR KIDS are going to LOVE IT !!!!!! :flower:

WE PAID for savannah view on our first stay : yes , we got a good view ... but NOT the best we could have had !!!!! as we DISCOVERED one year later: we paid STANDARD room and were UPGRADED for free to savannah
AND we GOT A SIMPLY MARVELLOUS VIEW !!!!!!!!!!( very much BETTER than the year before, when we had paid for it !!!)

What I mean is IMHO that even staying in a standard room you are going to have a blast !!! no need to put too much money on a savannah view ... ;) you MAY get a free upgrade at check in ( you get MORE chances if you check in late in the evening , a CM said !) and anyway YOU GET WONDERFUL LOOK-OUTS EVERYWHERE ... IN THE LOBBY CORNER, AT ARUSHA ROCK, IN EVERY HALLWAY ... YOU ARE GOING TO SEE TONS OF ANIMALS !!!!!!!!!!!

As far as I know their pool is the LARGEST on property; sure it's very BEAUTIFUL ... YOUR KIDS WILL HAVE A REAL TREAT !!!!!!! :wizard: :wizard:

We are going on August ; I'll be sure to take some pics "pool view"! and post them for you !!! :earseek:

Does anyone have any pictures of the Savannah view from the 6th floor ? We are staying Concierge and I originally requested 6th floor non-smoking as that is what they wanted. I told my kids that the view is better on the 5th floor but they didn't care one way or the other. Also does anyone have any pictures of the Deluxe room with 1Q,bunk beds and a daybed?
Thanks,
Trish :cool1: Doin' the 33 day dance!!

We stayed concierge on the 5th floor in December '04...I was under the impression that all the bunk bed rooms are on the 5th, none on the sixth, but I could easily be mistaken. I have pictures of the room, queen with bunks and daybed....just not sure how to get them here, but I'll tinker with it...

Um. Well, I just don't see where I can upload any.

Help? PM the technologically impaired but willing me and I will happily get them to you.

Well, okay, I've uploaded some images into my picture gallery. Can you see them here

GREAT pics , Kris ! Loved that Tinkerbelle dressed "lady ", SOOOOO SWEET !!!!

Loved the pics of the queen room with bunk bed and daybed. That's what we've got booked for next month. I'm kind of bummed that we'll have to be on the 5th floor, due to the room type, because it seems kind-of high for viewing the animals. We'll just have to hope for the best. :wizard:

I'm sorry if this questions has been answered, but there are just too many pages to sift through, and things may have changed:
What beverages are available for refillable mugs at the Mara? TIA! :sunny:

Hi we just returned from AKL July 4th-15th , Great trip, at Mara drink station you can get Sprite, Fresca, Coke, Cherry Coke, Minute Maid Lemonade, water, unsweet Iced Tea, Coffee, and Hot Chocolate, any more ??? just ask :wave2:

Thanks, wdwhooked. Did you try much of the food from the Mara? Any favorites, or things you didn't like? Did you happen to be on the dining plan? If so, what kinds of things did you get?

Oh, and did you try the coffee? I'm not a coffee drinker, but my sister is. She's wondering if she should plan to make her own. I think you can request to have a coffee maker in the room.

Hi, at AKL you will have a coffie maker in your room, the coffie was ok , they give you packets of coffie when they clean the rooms. we did eat at Mara several times and liked most of the food and the grab/and/go selection had salads, sandwiches and Zebra Domes and Chocolate Mousse Crunch :mickeybar (our Favorite) lol , You need to try them. From the counter the best item we had was the Rotisserie Chicken dinner, very good for a food court. any other ??? just ask.

Hi to all the AKL lovers! :lovestruc DH + I enjoy this resort SO MUCH! We are hooing to book a quick stay in September and bringing our nephew, who LOVES watching the animals. He LOVES the pool :goodvibes too!

My question: I know if you book concierge level, you have the opportunity to also book some special events... one is the sunrise safari. I had recently heard there was another safari you could book... in the afternoon. Is this still going on. If so, does anyone know any of the details?

Thanks in advance! ;)

Yes, this safari is still going on. It's called the Wanyama Safari, or as you will hear it referred to here as the Sunset Safari. We have both safaris bookef for our upcoming honeymoon. Here's the info concierge sent us on the Wanyama.

"Wanyama Safari (exclusively offered to Animal Kingdom Lodge Concierge Guests)
During this approximately 1 and a half hour safari experience at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge Safari a guest will experience a re-creation of a true African afternoon game drive. It is an opportunity to spend time with members from the DAKL animal programs team in a very personal environment; learning about the natural history and management of the animal collection at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. Incredible photo opportunities of the animals and architecture of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge that can only be experienced from our savannas. Your safari will conclude with a true African dining experience at JIKO, just like the lodges in Africa where a multi-course meal will await you.
Guest meet in the Porte Cochere an hour and a half prior to Sunset. Safaris will take place on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays.

Guests must be 12 years of age or older. The price for the experience is $150 per person tax and gratuity included. 48-hour cancellation policy.

Wanyama Safari is not guaranteed with a Concierge Room. Admission is limited to 8 Guests and can be reserved 90 days in advance of arrival date."

Thanks so much for the information on this safari! :goodvibes

CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming wedding + honeymoon! you will LOVE it at AKL. DH and I especially love a late dining at Jiko, when it is less crowded. with a view of the brook which runs outside. Oh what wonderful memories we have. :lovestruc

Thanks again!

Thanks for the additional info, wdwhooked. The chocolate mousse crunch sounds good. I'm a little doubtful about the zebra domes because I don't like the taste of coffee. I hope the chocolate mousse crunch doesn't have coffee flavor.

Did you participate in any of the activities at the resort? (I don't remember what exactly they are.) We have 3 kids: 8, 9, and 9. Do you know what activities they might enjoy? We're already planning to try the night vision goggles.

Just got back yesterday. Stayed at AKL from july 7th - july 16th. Had room # 2301..had a great view with lots of animals. 2 queen beds, would of loved bunk beds but didn't want to change since our view was so good. Had a great housekeeper who was from jamaica (didn't get her name) & had towel animals almost everyday.
