Thanks :wave2: to all who answered our Questions about Mara. We are looking forward to a Great time at AKL in July 2005 :hourglass :Pinkbounc

Would someone please explain the 'people pen' views to me? I know it's one of the savannah view possibilities, but that's all I know. Can a person still see animals from this view (if the animals feel like being seen, that is)?

On the far side of the pool is a flamingo pond, and just beyond THAT is another viewing area. Usually, there are CM's [from Africa] who stand other there and will gladly answer any questions guests may have! :flower:

We are currently booked for CSR for 9/4-9/10 and I'm thinking w/ the free dining maybe staying at AKL and we're really looking forward to trying Boma, I think it's one of my most anticipated restaurants and I think the kids would love AKL. Can you see the animals from the swimming pool?

If the animals are cooperating you can! If you can't, you just walk out of the pool and to the overlook area behind the pool bar. There are usually animals there as browse is put out in that area. I love sitting in the pool or near the pool at the back, listening to the pink flamingoes going wild! Something about that noise really tells me I am in paradise!

...bonkers!! [LOL] :rotfl: :teeth:

#1 Hockey mom - I have not been to this area of the hotel. Will have to check it out. I love flamingos. DH is not much of a pool person, so we don't hang out at it. But to just sit and read, enjoing the sites and sounds. I am sure he will enjoy. Just remember a hat and sunscreen. Thanks for the idea.

Go straight to the back of the pool, on the pool bar side. They have their own special pond area. My mother is a pink flamingo "junkie"! My first trip to AKL was first ever to Disney and we would check on the flamingoes at least twice a day! To the left is a great overlook spot of the Uzima savannah. (and if you look up, you can see the suite we stayed in last July! :))

...gonna have a WONDERFUL time!

Gosh, I haven't been in this thread in quite awhile. I will be staying at the AKL in August and am very excited to be going back to that gorgeous, gorgeous resort. ~Sigh.~

I found a little bit of information on the 'net tonight regarding the Animal Kingdom Lodge and its design/construction: click here.

We're looking forward to BCV, but I'll admit I'm having some regrets on not going back to AKL.

You can see the pretty birdies in this ol' photo of mine: click here.

#1hockeymom, if memory serves me correctly, your suite was one floor below the dome on the right. (By the way, thanks for the tour of your suite last summer. It was a lot of fun meeting your adorable family. :) )

#1Hockeymom - what was your room # - was it a 'savannah' view room??

This is EXACTLY why I love the DIS! :disrocks:

Yes, Janet! Right under the BT and Janet2k suite, as I like to call it! You both have had suites right above mine! It is great, for when I look at either of your public pictures I can see my view! :) It was wonderful meeting you and nutz4disney last year. I hope to do a repeat this year! We'll be there in about a month!
Labgirl>> I believe it was 4479 and 4481 The 79 being the second bedroom with two queens and the 81 being the living room/kitchenette/king bedroom. It overlooked the Uzima savannah while the "under the dome" part was two balcony widths and overlooked a bit of Uzima savannah and the hot tub/pool area. I loved hearing the music drift up from the pool area while watching "my" animals!
I don't remember all of the numbers I have had there during all four trips, but one of my favorite reg savannah room was at the very very end of Zebra Trail, facing the Uzima savannah. 4566 maybe?

I can't wait to go back!
Debbie
PS to Janet>> I love reliving my sweetsuite! Thanks for the memories!
