Disney's ALL-STAR MUSIC RESORT Family Suites Information & Questions

I just need a KING size bed and these suties would be perfect for us!!! DH and I don't share queens very well.

From what I understand, the big bed in the ASMUFS (cool acronym!) is a queen, not a king. I wish it would be a king, too.
:sad2:

Have you stayed at other resorts before??? We are booked for Suites, but dh is concerned b/c we usually stay at POR---

We have stayed at POR twice, and then in Dec stayed in the suites..........I really love the grounds at POR, but the space in the suites was amazing! I really loved putting the kids to bed in the living room and DH and I being able to sit back and relax/watch tv in our room! You will not regret the change!!!

Amen, easily the best thing about the suites.

We are staying in the FS Jan 26-Feb 3. I'm glad to hear the great reviews. Our last stay was as ASM and it was fine. We're not picky and are just so happy to be at WDW that we didn't mind the small space, but I am really looking forward to a separate sleeping area and especially the 2 tvs and bathrooms! We tried to go back for a mid day break a few times and having two rooms so the boys can relax in one and watch cartoons will be a wonderful treat! And no fighting for the bathroom in the am!!

I'm excited about booking the FS for our trip December 6 - 11. Seems like they book up fast, so I'm glad we finally made a decision. The space sounds great!!

We just stayed there last week and the suites are just great.

We were on Jazz building 2, room 2516. It was FAR from everything, definetly a refillabe mug was not the best investment since it was a hike to the food court. But that depends on the location of your suite.

They were much better than I had anticipated, even after reading the great reviews on this thread.

We were 6 people in the FS: me and dd 4, friend with her dd 4 and friend with her ds 4. Friend with ds stayed in the bedroom with the queen size bed and the other friend with her dd, dd and I stayed in the living area.

Plenty of storage space.

2 different AC controls, one for each room (worked great for us).

2 bathrooms.

2 closet areas (did I mention plenty of storage space?)

The living area feels roomier to me than a deluxe hotel when the beds are folded, and we just unfolded them when we went to sleep, so you don´t feel like you are stuck in a small bedroom.

The queen bedroom has a window that can be opened, and when our friend noticed that, she and her son used it the one day that the rest of us wanted to sleep in because they didn´t want to wake us up.

The food court had very good choices, even with an omelette station where you could order your eggs the way you like them.

The only thing I didn´t like about the resort is that the towels were old and they even had holes in them, it looks like the discards of the rest of the resorts come here, and housekeeping never replenished the paper plates (but we had brought some).

I forgot to add...

Someone asked how do the FS feel after staying at a moderate.

The last resorts where we have stayed are WL and CR (where we were luckily upgraded to concierge at check in, and no, we didn´t ask for it).

I was kind of scared about sharing a value room with the rest (total 3 adults 3 4yo kids).

The suites are different than a deluxe resort, but they feel bigger, defiently didn´t miss them, but we are not people to really use the amenities the hotels have to offer. I only took dd to the pool for about 1 hr the entire trip, so I didn´t miss the hot tub or the slides. We usually make our ADR´s for the parks GF or CR, so we never use the sit down restaurants in the resorts (only exception was CM´s once).

The only thing that I missed from our previous hotels was the distance, because the thing we like best about CR and WL is that they are in one building (stayed at the tower in the CR) so everything feels close, but you can have big distances too in many deluxe hotels, I would never stay at the Poly and pay for monorail closeness and maybe stay in the furthest longhouse. If I have to walk that much, I don´t mind then if I will ride a bus or the monorail. If I pay for the monorail I want it an elevator ride away like at the CR or the main building in GF (which we can´t affort since I think it is only concierge).

The pull out beds were comfortable.

This is good, now I can't wait till June. I am glad you had a good time, thanks for the report.

First off, I must thank everyone for their reviews. We are in the process of planning of trip right after Thanksgiving and were considering staying at the CR., since it appears that most rooms have 2 queens and a daybed. When we went last year during Thanksgiving we stayed at FW cabins and loved them, especially because of the separate sleeping areas. This time I wanted to try a deluxe resort, plus my DS wanted to stay at a resort that has the monorail, but after reading this thread I am so confused. Last year when I was planning the trip, I asked a friend on another board about the family suites and the value resorts and she convinced me to stay away from the value resorts. But this thread has changed my opionion of them.

Has anyone stayed at both the CR and ASMu that could share their opionions? It would be me, DH, DD11 and DS9 in the room.

After reading this entire thread, I do have one question: Does the ASMu resort have internet access? If so what is the cost and type (dial-up, WI-FI)? The reason I'm asking is because I will probably need to check email for work.

Thanks again for a wonderful and informative thread.

Our family stayed at the CR in a MK tower room way back in 1990.
Our oldest was 19 and the 2 little ones were
7 and 9. It was roomy enough for the 5 of us. We just divided up the shower times. The little ones and my teen showered at night so DH and I could use the shower in the mornings.

Room size Comparison:

Pop Century/All Stars-260 Square Feet
CS, POR/POFQ-314 SF
Caribbean Beach-340 SF
Wilderness Lodge-344 SF
AKL-344 SF
Yacht/Beach-381 SF
Boardwalk-385 SF
Polynesian-409 SF
Contemporary-436 SF
Grand Floridian-about 400-440SF
Ft Wilderness Cabins-504 SF
Family suites at All Star Music -520 SF

DH and I stayed in the Family Suites last September.
We loved the extra space and being able to sit in the living area after a day in the parks.

Hi There - We haven't stayed at the ASMu, but am a great Contemporary fan (by the way the rooms here were updated recently and are really nice). Instead of the "space" theme, I would call the decor more contemporary. The major thing you will have to sort out, is if you want the amenities of the Deluxe Resorts vs. Values, which are just that. A place to get yourself together for another day at the parks. Have heard that the ASMu suites have more space, with the separate living area, which offers a positive. But even the extra space at the ASMu can't give you the monorail running through the building, which is still even "cool" to me at 50++. The kid in us never goes away when it comes to Disney.

Noticed you also got information which made you change your mind about the Value Resorts. Personally, I agree with the person who said to stay clear of them. I am local Disney (25 minutes) and a friend came down, and did not ask my opinion on the Values, because she thought Disney was Disney as she had been here before, but she quickly found that Disney is not Disney when it comes to the Value Resorts. In fact, they were so disappointed after the second day, they asked for, and were able to change to the Wilderness Lodge Villas. They found their resort to be noisy on a continued basis, and limited restaurant selection and cuisine. I too have read on this forum many positives offered about the Values (ASMu and Pop Century being the best).

Again, whether to chose a Value, Moderate, or Deluxe Resort is a truly personal opinion, depending on what you want out of your vacation stay. I choose a resort by what they offer, as I spend alot of time at the resort, not just using the resort for a place to rest after a day at the parks. Some folk only want the Values, some Moderate, and others, nothing but Deluxe. You will find all the differing opinions when viewing this forum that will help :cool1: and also (confuse) :confused3 your decision. One thing you have chosen that is great :cool1: is the time of year for your visit No changes needed, as I have found the weather and crowds to be great just before and after Thanksgiving:cheer2: .

Have a great vacation!!!

The suites look beautiful. IMO, the only thing missing is more of them!

Yes, I am also hoping they add more Family Suites at the other values.

Have fun at Disney!:wizard:

My Brother-in-law, Sister-in-law and two nieces (ages 8 & 5 years) will be checking into the Family Suites (in the Jazz building) on Sun., June 3rd for eight nights. They are soooooooooooooooooooooooo excited. I cannot wait to hear what they thought. I'm sure they will be very impressed.

Linda and Lewanc, thanks for the replies. I'm going to send DH the link to this thread and get his opinion on the family suites. He really wants to stay at FW again, but I want to try another resort.

Lewanc, last year we were there during Thanksgiving week and a CM said it was the coldest November he could remember. It was so cold that we bought the kids gloves to wear at night. Hopefully, the weather will be a little warmer this time.

We were also there the same week (stayed in the Suites). We watched the local news every night and they said if was the coldest November they had in twenty years. One morning it was in the 30's.

Still had fun though. :thumbsup2

It will be nice to see/hear how they liked them too! We will be there June 20th, I can't wait.

Back in April of this year we stayed in the Family Suites at ASMu thanks to Linda's lovely advice. We were all very happy and comfortable in them.

It was 5 adults and all of us slept comfortably.

Not quite sure how big the bed in the 1 room is because it didn't feel like a full because it was slightly bigger than a full, but didn't look like a Queen either. :confused3

Anyway, 2 adults fit comfortably in it though.
The 1 adult fits comfortably in the single pull out beds (the chair and ottoman). 2 small children may fit in the chair pull out too.
1-2 adults fit comfortably in the pull out couch which is the size of a full.

I didn't sleep on any of the pull outs. The reports were the chair and couch were very comfortable, but the ottoman wasn't as comfy.
I lied down on the chair pull out bed for awhile and the time I was there it was comfortable and I couldn't feel any bars or springs.

The kitchenette area was wonderful. It has a microwave, mini fridge and coffeemaker. The resort supplies 1 roll of paper towel, plastic eating utensils, a bottle opener/corkscrew, teas and instant coffees (instant coffee that is in the filtered bags already), paper plates and bowls, plastic cups and there was plenty of storage space.

The bathrooms were nice and having 2 was a big plus for 5 females. No fights for bathrooms and shower time. There's plenty of room in the closet/sink area to store luggage and to hang clothes. There was also plenty of drawer space for all 5 of us.

Having the 2 TVs was great too.

The internet connection was in the bedroom (but the connection cord was out in the living room area we later found out).

So we were very satisfied with the room and layout. We didn't feel cramped and were comfortable. There wasn't a lot of noise, no complaints. I think the only one was hearing the bathrooms from the adjoining room in the living room, but if we closed our bathroom door we couldn't hear it.

We were in the Calypso building 10, 3rd floor, Room 656 or 0656 and had a pool view and were VERY close to the food court/front desk/gift shop/bus stops. The laundry and bar by the pool was also very close.

I'll share some pictures in the next post.

So thank you Linda! I hope Disney makes more suites too and I hope they start offering Discounts on them because that to me was the only drawback. :sad1:
