This whole thing is really leaving a bad taste in my mouth. In general, I thought Newsom's response has been good, but lately he seems to have shifted the focus from trying to reopen things with minimizing virus spread to eliminating virus spread before re-opening. He's not alone. I live in Alameda county and we still don't have indoor dining even though we moved to red a couple weeks ago.
I was pessimistic at the outset about the opening time frame for
Disneyland--I think I initially picked late October way back--but the latest comments by Newsom are extremely disheartening. I agree that it sounds as if he's not contemplating allowing theme parks to open until COVID is under control with either a vaccine or therapeutic. Given that every other Disney park has managed to re-open during COVID, I think this is an unreasonable standard, and if I were Disney, I'd be looking at ways to open anyway and/or contemplating litigation. I'd bet Disney legal is hard at work doing exactly that.
