Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Thank you for this update. Does anyone have a DVC reservation that was cancelled for later than 10/22/20?

no Dvc reservation for me until 11/15. I got the below email this afternoon. When I checked my Dvc dashboard, my November reservations were still there but I will check again tomorrow. this is the first email I have gotten related to a Dvc reservation so assuming the reservations will auto cancel and then I can call and have them do something with my expiring points.
Dear Disney Vacation Club Member,

The Hotels of the Disneyland Resort remain closed and will reopen at a later date. Due to the resort closure, your upcoming resort reservation has been automatically cancelled. Any Points used for your reservation will be returned in the manner they were used to book your stay.

Borrowed points used for your cancelled reservation will be returned to the use year they were borrowed from. For more information regarding the phased reopening and important travel information, please visit DisneyVacationClub.com.

We're very sorry for any disappointment this may cause but look forward to welcoming you and your family back home in the future.

Sincerely,

Disney Vacation Club

Chatted with a friend this evening, whose aunt has worked at Disneyland for 44 years. She's 62 and started when she was 18. She's been friends with Pluto for a very long time. She got her layoff notice from Disneyland. They offered her early retirement. I had a good cry over it. 😭 I really hope that the stalemate between the theme parks and the governor's office can be broken soon.

This whole thing is really leaving a bad taste in my mouth. In general, I thought Newsom's response has been good, but lately he seems to have shifted the focus from trying to reopen things with minimizing virus spread to eliminating virus spread before re-opening. He's not alone. I live in Alameda county and we still don't have indoor dining even though we moved to red a couple weeks ago.

I was pessimistic at the outset about the opening time frame for Disneyland--I think I initially picked late October way back--but the latest comments by Newsom are extremely disheartening. I agree that it sounds as if he's not contemplating allowing theme parks to open until COVID is under control with either a vaccine or therapeutic. Given that every other Disney park has managed to re-open during COVID, I think this is an unreasonable standard, and if I were Disney, I'd be looking at ways to open anyway and/or contemplating litigation. I'd bet Disney legal is hard at work doing exactly that.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I agree with everything you said. And as somebody who’s in a county still in purple, some of the restrictions we have make absolutely no sense.

My Nov 13-14 is still alive, but I think it’s only a matter of time. Like many others here, I have a Dec UY. I wonder what they’ll do with the points? Some of them were banked from a previous year, so I don’t think they’ll let me bank them again. Will they let me bank the current year points, even though I’m past the deadline for banking?

i see a long phone call in my future...

I was so sorry to read this. Please tell your friend to let her aunt know that people here are sending her good thoughts and to thank her for all the years she made the magic for us.

@KPeterso , I received two copies of the email you posted today. My Nov reservation remains on my dashboard ... I am guessing the message was from the Oct reservations cancelled by Disney last week. I wrote them back to suggest their communication specify which reservation was cancelled at least by check-in date. Sigh.
i got 2 emails too. And I also had a reservation last week for 10/22. A date or reservation number would have been really helpful. Kind of untimely yo send this week when they did the cancellation a week ago. As I said, I will just keep watching my dashboard. I do have 2 November reservations (11/17-11/18 and then 11/18-11/20j so I thought maybe I got 2 emails (one for each reservation). I may have time to call tomorrow since I do not have too many meetings for work.
I have a Nov 17-20 DVC reservation and have not yet received a cancellation email. I had an October reservation but cancelled it myself in early September; it was not cancelled by DVC.

I had two different DVC reservations for Halloween week - 10/30 - 11/1 and 10/27 to 10/30 that I picked up a couple weeks ago. This morning, the earlier one was off the dashboard but 10/30 was still there. This afternoon we received two cancellation emails - I am presuming one for each. @KPeterso I am surprised they are cancelling all the way out to Nov 17.

Not totally sure what to think. I had a 10/22-10/23 reservation that cancelled last Thursday. And then my next are 2 November reservations (11/17-11/18 and 11/18-11/20, had not called to merge to one). The 2 November reservations are still showing on my Dashboard this AM. But it seems strange to get a cancellation email a week after they cancelled it online too. And why would I get 2 related to a cancellation next week? I figured I got 2 because it was for 2 reservations which would be November. Dates or the reservation numbers would have been super helpful on the emails. I also found it strange that this was my first emails related to a cancellation (and I had cancellations in May, July, September, October x2).

I will be making a similar call! I have 11/17-11/20 booked. About 40 of the points are VGC current UY points, 10 are VGC banked 2018 points, and 20 are AKV banked 2018 points. I booked 11 months out (11/18-20) using the VGC points in good faith. I expect to be able to bank them. The 10 were originally moved off a July VGC reservation that was cancelled. I am hoping for some sort of extension on those. The AKV I may end up losing completely.

I also received two cancellation emails yesterday, but when I checked my upcoming Nov and Jan VGC reservations are still there. I wonder if this is a delayed email from prior cancellations. I've had three cancelled since the parks shut down.

My 2 November and 1 January are also still there. I have had 6 other DVC reservations (1 May, 2 July, 1 September, and 2 October) cancelled. These are the only cancellation emails that I have gotten to date. Just seems so strange that they would start sending them out now when they have not in the past. Dates or reservation numbers would have been very useful on the emails!!!

A big thank you to everyone posting who is trying hard to stick to the guidelines! The mods really do appreciate that. The posts arguing that Disneyland should stay closed have been moved to their own thread. That discussion, within the guidelines, can continue there. This is the thread to discuss the parks reopening.
Let's return to our show already in progress...

So I received a reply from Member Services regarding my request that the message identify which reservation had been cancelled. UGH! Disney has hired quite a staff of skilled (aka useless) politicians.

Just wondering why the hotels, GCH DLH and PP, won’t/can’t open?

It seems it might be fun just to stay at the hotel and visit downtown Disney.
Probably for the same reason unfortunately they haven't done any sort of dining events similar to Knott's in the parks themselves. They are committed to waiting for the parks to be fully opened. Plus, I'd imagine long term occupancy would be a concern.

It would be nice if they somehow opened up some of the hotels dining options at least, but I don't know how that's gonna work as it is. Trader Sam's has extremely small capacity, Goofy's Kitchen/Storytellers are buffets. I don't envy the people trying to figure that all out!
