Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

As far as Newsom's comments today about theme park reopening, I think he is finally being honest with people. Prior to this, I think he was trying to divert the attention and engaging in delay tactics with his "soon" comments. Now we see what he has truly thought all along.

I would give my right arm to eat a corn dog on Main Street right now. Or soup in a bread bowl at the French Market. Or to eat a snack at the Hungry Bear sitting next to the Rivers of America.
Can you do a quick overnight trip for DTD? Just being on property, hearing the music, seeing the gates, feeling the magic with CMs, etc. is very therapeutic! You could shop, dine, enjoy atmosphere -- it's definitely not your normal DLR trip, but it really does help!

Cancelled plans for Disneyland between now and the end of the year. Made plans for Disney World. So, Disney still gets my money, but California doesn't. I feel so badly for Anaheim, including our favorite hotel The Candy Cane Inn. Wishing California all the best economically but sending my tourism and sales tax dollars to Florida. Just can't believe Governor Newsom...

Not exactly. We're in AZ, so I'd need to book a hotel for 2 nights, take time off of work, and all that. Not worth it just to go to DTD.

If you could throw in Knott's (see if they do a Holiday Food Festival -- the Halloween one is currently sold out unless they add a day), maybe the beach, etc.? Just saying that there are ways to get your Disney on, even if it isn't exactly what you'd do under normal circumstances. @Winnowill got a great fare and flew to SNA from AZ for one magical day at DTD. So it can work for the right price!

Re-posting DIS Guideline #5 as a reminder for everyone posting here and on this board in general. Please keep this in mind when posting in this thread, on the DLR boards, and on other DIS boards:
5. POLITICS/RELIGION
Because of the large number of complaints of personal attacks related to these subjects and inability for many people to keep a civilized conversation when discussing these hot-button topics, politics and religion will no longer be appropriate topics on our forums. Political or religion based posts or threads will be removed, and repeated violations of this rule can result in an infraction.

This doesn't mean that political news or facts can never be mentioned here. Clearly, these things have been posted throughout the 300+ pages of this superthread. But please remember that there is a big difference between posting these facts and news updates vs. venting/ranting/disparaging/preaching/insulting/trolling/etc. with this same information. Just about everyone here understands the frustration and the anger. There is no need to lash out or dump on anyone. It is possible to show respect when we disagree with people, both with people here and people in the news. A little grace can go a long way toward saving sanity.
Now, let's work together to keep this thread from turning to the Dark Side and to help each other keep the faith!

We’re from Australia and were headed over in less than a couple of weeks to take our 5 year old for his first trip. We’ve been to DL and WDW three times each and saw it as a passing of the torch. We’re all devastated but in reality for us it’s just a holiday, for all those employees it’s their livelihood. I feel for them. We’ll get to the House of Mouse at some stage but let’s get people back to work.

Disney’s new statementView attachment 530766

Well said. Let’s get that lawsuit going!

From an outsider perspective (as in someone not living in California) this all feels to me like some political demonstration to show how he ‘faced off’ with the big corporate Disney in the pandemic. If that makes sense. I know others have said Newsom’s had his eye on a future presidential run and this all seems like prep work for creating the right background for targeted supporters.

I hope I said that in the right way without stepping on any political toes. But I think there is more to this (not trying to be cynical) than prioritizing health to me. There’s a lot of political behind the scenes going on that we aren’t even scratching the surface on.

Hugs to all! This is upsetting.

ETA; I tried to write all that in a way to not break any political guidelines so hopefully I succeeded 😂 Not looking to open that can of worms but just voicing something I’ve been pondering as a reason for Newsom’s decision.

No worries. As I posted above, there is no problem with discussing politics or politicians in a respectful, mature manner. As evidenced by well over 300 pages in this thread, it can be done! There is plenty of thoughtful discussion to be had from different points of view. But when the posts are disrespectful, argumentative, venting, preaching, trolling, toxic, off topic, etc.? Those posts will be deleted.

We certainly wouldn’t now that my kids are older, but when they were 2-7ish, they would happily spend days there. I’m not trying to be argumentative, but to say that Newsom’s distance limit on theme parks but not other area attractions is ridiculous in my opinion. We might be weird to travel for the zoo, but I’m sure others are going there, or to the beach, or to other places in California from out of state.
The San Diego zoo is the most visited zoo in the world. People come from all over the world to San Diego to go to the zoo. Pre covid, the crowds were epic. So I completely agree that the distance requirement is ridiculous and completely unfair. It’s no different than any other tourist attraction in Southern California.

So my question here stems from all the changes that Disneyland has made. I wonder if all of the signs, sanitizer, etc... were either put in to drive interest in seeing when an opening would happen. Getting the community excited about any changes can be powerful, and drives conversation. Or were they lead on with what they though an opening would be like and over time less conversations were had to prepare. Basically in March their told 2 months/3 months then start preparing sites for opening instructions.

If just seems very odd to me that they would start making any of these changes in the parks if they didn't know something, like they were told one thing, and then the procedures were different....

ugh, just waking up and catching up. This is so similar to whats happening in Ireland right now, with the bars, hospitality and entertainment industries.

Somehow, this direction of thought has me losing hope for the theme parks. I'm very pro safety and precautions, but this just baffles me. "Between bites..."??? We need to hear some good news -- doesn't have to be big news -- just something to keep us going.

This graphic pretty much sums it up.

Good luck finding a middle ground if you are in negotiations with the same people that released this.
