Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

We were going to go for Columbus Day weekend, but my husband’s conference (which had been moved from its original August date) at the DLH has been canceled and will be held virtually. 😢 I’m not sure that this necessarily means the Hotel won’t be open at that time—maybe they just expect that the state’s guidelines won’t permit a conference/gathering. Fingers crossed for those of you who still hold reservations... 🤞🤞🤞

At this point, does anyone else have the feeling DL will cancel all hotel reservations up to Oct 3 so they don't have to honor any of the rebooking discount?
I expect those reservations to be cancelled but NOT so they don't have to give the discount but because I don't expect the parks to be open.

What about late October? Could they possibly open then? I feel like with the gov. + OC having good numbers + theme parks having separate guidelines from the color tier chart + social pressure from people who want to go back to work/ attend DLR may= a reopening around that time. At least that’s what I’m hoping for. 😣🤞

Samee!!!! 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾

Also do we know when the next update from Newsom will be? With the holiday this week I feel like updates have been off schedule

I think early November will be the earliest.

Why do you say that Theme Parks will be separate from the tiers? I think once the guidelines are released they will be tied to the tiers. I'd say IF Theme Parks are allowed in Red it will be only outdoor at 25%. Orange will allow indoor attractions but no parades, fireworks, shows, etc still at 25%. Yellow will increase to 50% occupancy. Of course this is just my own speculation, I have no inside information.

I don't know for sure but Tuesday's are when they will the release Counties to new tiers, if they qualify. He may do an update tomorrow. But it will just be numbers and fire updates

Newsom keeps saying he is having meetings with the theme parks because they require different guidelines. Idk if that means these guidelines will be very similar to the county color tiers or if they differ, but he keeps emphasizing that they are separate from the color tier guidelines. He just won’t specify what that means exactly. Also, a November date will work, I can wait a few more months!!

Well that I agree with. They do require special guidelines because they are unique to most other industries. Since they didn't have any guidelines in place before the roll back they are now coming it up with them. I see no reason why they shouldn't be tied to the tiers.

I do wonder though, if say OC has to go back a tier, would that mean Disneyland has to close? Also I wonder about parks like universal and 6 flags that are located in LA county. LA county is slow to reopen compared to the state. But OC opens right as they are allowed to. So would they get clearance from the state saying no matter what the local guidance says, theme parks can open? Or they need to follow local guidelines? 🤔

*also sorry if that doesn’t make sense lol it’s been a long day 😅*

That is my assumption. Which is a good reason to WAIT to reopen. If I was Disney I would wait until Mid-January, after all the holidays to ensure I wouldn't have to close again from spikes due to people getting together.

I doubt the state will take away the counties control to keep things closed if they see fit to do so.

I agree, I just wish he would say that😣 not saying something like “while they require different guidelines, they cannot open until their counties reach “x” tier” is where I start thinking they are completely separate; he just stops at “different guidelines”. Either way, I’m willing (and have to) wait.

I just think at this point, with nothing finalized, he can't say anything because he doesn't know. As much as it is hard, we just have to wait.

Any thoughts on why, after six months, nothing is finalized☹️? I feel like this is pretty cut and dry especially with FL. I feel like he can give guidelines and then state what timeline theme parks are allowed to open with the given guidelines, but he seems to be lumping a release of guidelines w/ a reopening, and I am not understanding why🤔

I would venture that places like Knott's would just dial it back to festival mode. And that's why I'm perplexed why Disney hasn't taken the step for this intermediate festival mode with the likelihood of a swaying between tiers high. As mentioned earlier, San Diego is teetering on slipping back to purple due to a single college---SDSU-- spiking up 400 positive tests and pushing us to the brink.

Imagine if UCIrvine opens campus fully in 2nd semester just when DLR reopens ---

My guess is they haven’t been discussing it for six months. Earlier the theme parks were submitting plans but I don’t know that they were discussing things together. So now they are meeting, discussing but it has only been a few weeks. Theme Parks are unique and complex and they are likely discussing thing you and I haven’t even thought of. And also likely discussing things we have like what happens if a county spikes, goes back a tier etc. Theme Parks aren’t likely a priority at present. With the entire state on fire I am sure the governor has other, more important things to deal with right now.

I think the difference here is that Florida just let it all fly and their numbers went wild. While it wasn't about Disney, Newsom is trying to avoid becoming Florida. As frustrating as it is, I can respect that. If he shows favoritism to a large park, that is hard on the small businesses struggling. So Disney waits.

No. That is not the driving force in cancelling reservations. Calling people back takes 1-2 weeks, I think they skipped that week earlier this month to tighten that window so they can open up as soon as possible once the theme parks get the green light. If they got it today your week would be in play.

But I have this funny feeling all we’ll hear from the governor is that discussions are one of the following: “ongoing” “very close” “progressing well” “still have some issues” “almost there” or “dynamically closer”
