Great lighting, wazow!
P.S. Did you finish your TR? I haven't gotten an update in ages.

Danny,
That is breathtaking...................I love how you can even see the detail on the carousel horse through the castle breezeway.
You have a gift.
I can't believe I will be seeing the castle in a little over 2 weeks.:cool1:

Very kind of you to say, Disneygrl36. :goodvibes

Have a great trip!

Wooo hoo! Another gorgeous Mac oriented desktop. Danny -- keep 'em comin!

Thanks, DM. I'm glad to know that my pictures are being made good use of and not just sitting as my desktop backgrounds! ;)

Ok, I'll bite.........Huh? :)
I think it's a reference to when Walt was playing around with the castle model, he felt the front of the castle was too menacing, so they turned it around and Walt liked it much better. And thus the front of the castle(pink part here) became the backside of the castle. That part is very similar to Neuschwanstein Castle.

Ok, I'll bite.........Huh? :)

One story goes like this: When the imagineers who were building Disneyland were looking at the mockup for the castle, they turned the top of the castle backwards in the model. When Walt returned, he said that the castle looked great, so it stayed as is.

The other story I've heard is that Walt liked it better backwards so he asked that it stayed that way.

Chances are it's a conglomeration of the two stories; that they turned it backwards, Walt liked it, was notified it was backwards, and still liked it...

So backwards it stayed. ;) The stone is right side out, the pink is back side out.

I have heard versions of this story before, but it was reiterated to me during the Walk In Walt's Footsteps tour.

Has anybody heard a different version?

Another version is that they quickly put the top back on "backwards" when Walt came in and he noticed it. As he looked at it, he decided that he liked it better. It really does look less menacing that way.

And great pictures everyone. I really need to visit this thread more often.

I love trivia like this - I had not heard this before but I had to go back and look at the pictures. The back really could have been the front!

one more castle shot since we're all on a roll....

Another thing that is so great about the detail around and under the Castle area is the brickwork! I like that the bricks are lightly tinted purplish-blue and some are pink, carefully alternated in color for effect. It must have taken forever to build that and get those bricks just so! I don't think I had noticed that the bricks were alternating in color like that before, but I could see it in the photo! I bet Walt Disney had it strategically drawn out which color bricks would go where for the best effect from a distance and up close!
