It's raining outside now, brought this one to mind...

That's great, jlmarr! When was that taken? Last year? It is a great perspective/angle of the bridge against the gray sky, combined with the holiday decorations and the neon lights!

KCMike, NostalgicDad, Eym, I'm loving your castle pics! :thumbsup2
And thanks to all who posted the trivia info. I love learning stuff like that! Cool!:cool1:

Thanks for that great explanation about the castle from GBShorts and Sleepless Knight. That story almost rings a bell, but I never knew all the details.

Here's an ultra-wide shot at 10mm for today.....

Am I the only one not seeing this pic? It's weird, because I see the img address for it, but no photo showing. . . :confused3

Another version is that they quickly put the top back on "backwards" when Walt came in and he noticed it. As he looked at it, he decided that he liked it better. It really does look less menacing that way.

And great pictures everyone. I really need to visit this thread more often.

That's the version I've heard. It's also the one that's told in the new book The Imagineering Field Guide to Disneyland - according to that, it was Imagineer Herb Ryman (who is also responsible for creating the first bird's-eye-view of Disneyland) who flipped it backwards just before Walt walked in.

I'm not sure which version is true, though . . . I didn't know there could be so many alterations of a different "Disney myth"!

this Pic. was taken on sunday Nov. 23

Very nice! :thumbsup2 I know the snow isn't natural, but the way the sky looks it makes it look like the snow COULD be natural. :santa:

That was my bad......I had it hidden on my smugmug site......only I could see it but it should be fine now.

I :lovestruc this picture - where were at to get this shot?

Thanks, DizneyDogs! :)

I was standing in Town Square in front of the depot. This is yet another example of why I enjoy taking a long lens to DL. ;)

I think it's more likely that the Herb Ryman putting the spire on right before Walt walked in is correct and that multiple versions have arisen because the story got misquoted over the years. We do know that Walt deliberately wanted a smaller castle because he wanted it to be more intimate, so this story fits with that very well.

Eym, thank you so much for posting this! I LOVED that gingerbread coffin and I want one to keep at home! I am so glad you snapped a picture of it because it allows me to see it in more detail than when I was on the ride. If I am not mistaken, weren't there creepy little gingerbread men around the outside of the coffin somewhere? Maybe I have lost my mind and only imagined seeing little creepy gingermen!!!

Thx - I was thinking that was from 2005, but I just looked at the Exif data embedded in the .jpg, and it says it was taken 12/20/2003.
