My doctor told me it's because I have exercised induced asthma, but I'm hoping to overcome it.
I forgot to mention that my best friend and I joined a yoga studio yesterday. We couldn't believe that we broke out into a sweat.
Lots of standing then laying down and getting right back up and doing it all over again. They have a yoga and pilates infusion class that I'm looking forward to trying.
I've never heard of exercised induced asthma. I do hope you are able to get over it.
Yoga is great. Congrats!
So I exercised yesterday. 45 minutes of cardio. I switch machines every fifteen minutes, because I tend to get bored. That's why running outside is so good for me. Scenery changes. I couldn't figure out the heart monitor on those machines. Said I had no heart rate. Then that it was lower than target heart rate if I was 100 years old. Then that it was off the chart high. Does anyone have success with those heart monitors on ellipticals, bikes, treadmills? Any tricks on where to put your hands to you can get an accuratish count? At somepoint I might get one of those Garmin things but right now I don't feel like shelling out any more cash. But I can't do this by feel, as I'm pushing myself beyond what normally feels comfortable. I must say in general I feel better...after the workout, the next day. I'm beginning to feel a bit more fit again. And this is just after a couple of days of the harder workouts. Also did my strength training. And then DH and I did an afternoon lunch date (only time we have childcare) at the Hamam part of the gym, which was kind of a Turkish steaming, hot tubbing, exfoliating sort of a ritual. Also had a soap massage, which was a bit odd...think I'll stick to oil massages from here on out. Anyway, it was fun to go on a date and try something new.
It's Saturday morning at 8am and we are all trying to stay quiet as mouses until 9:30am for our Swiss neighbors. DSs are not allowed to come downstairs from their kid loft for another hour and a half, so I've given the one who is awake an iPhone to play with and will bring up pancakes when the second one arises. Getting new routines so following Swiss cultural norms is easier. Then we will all go to the mountains for the night to do some skiing tomorrow. Just a little mountain with a rope tow I think, for the kids to learn.
And if anyone is wondering about that WDW job my DH was interviewing for...well, turns out that offer to bring the family was just too good to be true. Family can stay with him for one night in the hotel, but have to pay for own plane tickets. John has accepted interview and then submitted travel request for flight from Switzerland (which was the first he mentioned that he doesn't live in the US). He hasn't heard back from WDW if that is ok or not.
If it does work out for the interview, this will be a very short trip for DH alone. I can't imagine the job working out for the family. I told me DH, I don't want you to turn my magical place into work! But there's no stopping him from applying for these jobs (which for the most part is a good thing, but can be a bit exhausting at times). I will post an update on the DL board when we know if he is going or not.
And the boys and I will be going to Disneyland Paris for five nights on Feb 16. Hopefully, DH will join us for three days, pending how scheduling works out for that WDW interview. We're staying at the Sequoia Lodge and must be prepared for very cold weather. I'll try to be better about a trip report this time. No promises, but we'll see...I've got to start generating interest for the ladies trip to DLP!
OK, long enough posting.
For the QUOTE OF THE DAY

Nice post, Jen. I love hearing your updates.
About the heart monitors - most gym eqt I've found, they don't work. I've been to a lot of gyms. I think they just tend to break. Sometimes you can get one to work by removing your hands and then putting them back on and being patient. You can also try a different machine each time.
You are bound to feel better, because your body is used to a lot of cardio. It feels so good to get the oxygen going again.
Your spa date sounds wonderful.
That's a pretty nice consolation, getting to go back to DLP!!! Sweet.
Are you locked into a lease in your apt? It really sounds like you've got the wrong apt. There must be some with other children that would have been easier on all of you....no?
