Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

Finished my 1 hour 45 minute run.

You amaze me Jen!! I just hope someday I can run for 30 minutes!! 1 hour 45 seems impossible to me!!

**Donna** for some reason your quote did not cross over right, so I removed it. But the below is in reponse to your post, Sorry...technically challenged today.

I agree about needing to lose weight before toning. One of the videos I was doing (and want to return to for an off day exercise once I get through the first few weeks of the C25k) was the original biggest losers exercise DVD. It has several different workouts on it and on of the first ones (maybe #2) uses hand weights. I bought handweights that are either 5 or 7 lbs each and did this workout 3-4 times a week for a few weeks. It was a good workout but not overly difficult. After a few weeks, my lower arms looked sooooo different!! I couldn't believe it. I had this definition and muscles I had never seen before!! And while I could notice a difference in my upper arms, it was nowhere near the difference. I think this is because my upper arms still have a lot of flab on them. So hopefully as I keep losing the toning exercises will show.

Muscle milk light I get i a big pack at costco. I am still working on the first pack I bought in February. They definitely taste like a protein shake, but after the first few times the taste grows on you. Now they taste like chocolate milk to me in a healthy sort of way. Great for an in-between meal snack or with fruit/veggies as a meal replacement on the go or to have an hour before a workout.

And yes, crystal light is powdered form that I mix in. They sell it everywhere, and you can get the larger form that fills a pitcher or the small "on the go" ones to add to a water bottle. Only a few calories and makes your water yummy!! Since I cut soda and most sweets..it is odd. Other things taste too sweet to me (never thought I would say that). So I only put half of what you are supposed to in the water now. I keep big pitchers in the fridge for the family (everyone loves it) and small ones in my purse and desk to add to water here and there. It has artificial sweeteners in it in case that bugs you. My favs are peach mango, peach tea, raspberry green tea, citrus splash (kind of taste like tang..lol), blueberry white tea. I stay away from the lemonades because they give me heartburn.

I noticed last summer some of the 7-elevens here had crystal light slurpees!!!! YUM! I love slurpees but the sugar and calories are not worth it. The crystal light ones hit the spot on a hot day.

So......I couldn't help myself and weighed in again. 192!!!! -51.5!! Going to add that sweet banner now!!

Have a great Sunday everyone. I'm off to look at houses and take the kids to the park. Then tonight I start week 2 of the c25k!!

Holy crap!! That's amazing Amy! You lost 2.5 pounds in two days!! WOW!!! :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:
Keep it up girl, the banner looks wonderful. :cheer2:

Yahoo!!! Great job!:cool1: That is totally awesome and I admire you!

As for me I ran 3 miles yesterday! Almost a 5k! If I would have only known that I was that close I would have pushed to go that extra .1!! DBF ran with me and he knows when to push me and when to back off which is a perfect combination! I am not sure I would have run 3 miles on my own yesterday so I owe it all to him. Next time I want to check the miles before leaving so if I am that close to a milestone I'll go for it!

So......I couldn't help myself and weighed in again. 192!!!! -51.5!! Going to add that sweet banner now!!

Wow...congratulations! That banner looks nice on you! Good luck on your W2D1 tonight!

I hope everyone else has a great Sunday. We were going to go hiking this morning but we were too lazy and slept in instead and are going to go look for patio furniture this afternoon.

I'm glad you posted that. I was feeling like I wasn't doing enough to be on this thread since while I am doing better with my food choices, but I am not denying myself...

Life isn't supposed to be about denying or restricting yourself, but eating things in moderation and you shouldn't think of it as "dieting" because diets are for a short term, what we (you, me & everyone else on this thread) is making a healthier lifestyle change. :goodvibes

Ok so I wasn't able to get to the gym on Friday and ate cake instead because we went to visit my aunt to celebrate her belated birthday. Saturday I went to the gym too close to closing so I was only able to burn 340 calories.

Today, I decided I would go after church. By the time I was on a machine, it was around 2:10 - 2:15pm. I burned 400 calories with a combination of treadmill, stairmaster, elliptical and recumbent bike. I then sat in the sauna for about 10 GLORIOUS minutes! I had worn my bathing suit under my gym clothes so I was extra sweaty since bathing suit material makes you sweat. I plopped in the pool and actually swam a continuous 20 minutes. So I figure (using an online exercise calculator) that I burned a total of 750 calories for both workouts.

I'm off now, we're going to Universal citywalk to eat and then watch DisneyNature: Earth!

Great work out Cristabel. One day I will shake up my workout, I like to swim,so that is what I do. Before I became a slug again, I had been swimming until I was in decent shpe, then I started to do weights and the like. It worked for me before, so hopefully, I will get there again!!

How was the movie??

Here's my broken record again, 70 minutes swim time today. Getting a little faster as I swam 3000 yards in that time frame, rather than the 2500 of Friday. It felt really good today, like I am getting somewhere!! The pool was closed due to a "chemical inbalance" a.k.a. poo in the pool on Saturday so missed that day
I've only been exercising again for about 3.5 weeks, and I can see a wee difference in my pudge. Maybe there is hope!!!

AmySue

I'm glad you posted that Jen, because I was going to ask you about speed when following the c25k. For week 1, I was gradually increasing the 5 min warm up till I got to 3.5 mph pace, doing the runs at 5 mph (i know..it's more a jog but I didn't want to KILL myself on week one), staying at those speeds throughout, then gradually slowing during the 5 minute cooldown.

But I have no idea if this is right. Does the speed matter? And if so, what should I be shooting for?

It sounds right to me. My trainer told me not to even worry about speed, but just on increasing the times. I think if you can just be consistent with your exercise you will find that you naturally speed up and want to run a little harder. And the warming up and cooling down part sounds good, too. And then the stretching at the end is important. Great job! :thumbsup2

And just want to make sure I heard you right. Did you say 1/2 marathon in 2010?? That's music to my ears!:music: Can't wait to run a 1/2 marathon with you in 2010! Wherever that may be...:goodvibes

I'll probably have more tips as we go since I just told him this last week. But I'll tell you what he had me do last week (after I asked him for M.O. arms). We did pushups on a bench with my body at an angle (this one is hard to explain, you have to see it), pull downs at a machine (maybe it works lats?), and the one where you push the pads together with your arms while you are fake sitting, and tricep pull downs. Then with weights, I did pushing up (bent arms becoming straight), also walking and then spreading arms out holding weights, and bicep curls.

It matters the order - he likes to alternate pushs with pulls, and the amount of weight is important. The one where you spread your arms out with weights works the deltoids and that is the lovely muscle you see so clearly on Samatha Harris, the hostess of Dancing with the Stars.

What he told me recently was that he couldn't do this with me before because i had too much body fat to see the definition. So I think that was why he waited to train me and we worked on nutrition instead (although he always encouraged aerobic exercise). I just trust him at this point - I'm healthier than I've been in years.

Not sure I got all the arm exercises, but I get the idea. How long would you say you spend on your arms a week? I'm just doing weights twice a week and spend maybe 15 minutes each weight session on the arms. Most of the work is legs or core.

You know I'm embarassed to tell my trainer a goal that has to do with how I want to look. I can say I want to be able to achieve this goal of being able to accomplish this physical task (ie, 1/2 marathon), but I feel self conscious saying I want to look this way. Like he'd laugh in my face and say..."you?" "Michelle Obama arms?"..."Well, why don't we just give you a Jennifer Anistan body while were at it!" :lmao:

Anyway, I'll be seeing him again this Thursday. It's been I guess about 6 weeks now since my last session. (they are too pricey to go too often :headache:) But I've been working the program he gave me for weights and running, so we'll see what comes next...

So......I couldn't help myself and weighed in again. 192!!!! -51.5!! Going to add that sweet banner now!!

I am so NOT the fitness guru. It's like a total high to be able to exercise for so long, as I always considered myself the kind of person who couldn't do that. I was so tired yesterday, I was literally just dragging myself like a drunk person with the music blarring in my iPod for the last fifteen minutes. "Rock lobster....AH AH!!..." Anyway, you get the picture.

I'm like a persistent little goat who just keeps getting out there. That's more accurate.

And great job on the workouts!! :thumbsup2
Just keep swimming...:fish:

So I didn't do anything today. Went on a little walk and my legs and ankles hurt, so I think I won't be doing any running tomorrow. I would like to get a pilates class in, but I'm not sure if my schedule will allow.

Hope you all have a restful night and a great next week!

Vicki, fantastic. Are you running for two min then walking for two or is this straight running? I can't even imagine that.

I did 40 min on the elliptical. I had too much protein and now feel awful. I will do something tonight, maybe some Wii or free weights.

I ran the entire 3 miles...I find it hard to believe that I actaully can run without walking! There are days though that I walk for about 10 -15 seconds if I need to catch my breath but on Sat. I was able to run the entire time...it did help that DBF was running with me and he is such a support and encourages me!

I am not sure I could do the elliptical for 40 mins! That is great that you can stay on that long! I want a Wii! But I also want a new bike and a Kindel so I'm not sure when I'll get a Wii but I think it would be a lot of fun!

Today should be a running day but I still have a really sore thigh muscle so I may do something else so I don't continue to agrivate it. I try to run every other day so if I don't run today then it will be two days between runs. We'll see how it feels tonight and if I only have miner discomfort then I think I'll try maybe running only 2 miles.

Have a great day everyone!!

Hola ladies!

:worship::worship:I am so amazed by all of you runners! I cannot run for one minute straight without having to lay down. Partly due to my asthma but mostly because I am reaalllllly out of shape. I started walking today. I am taking super baby steps.:thumbsup2

Also---I am officially back on WW. I loved Atkins. It was a great diet. I lost 26 pounds. But, I was also losing hair. In clumps. That is a side-effect. I would rather have hair and lose slowly, than be bald and 115 by the end of summer, so here I am back to counting points. It is weird eating carbs again. But so nice! Anywho, I am expecting to gain about 5 pounds back this week due to the carbs. Who knows...maybe I won't.:confused3

Just checking in!
I haven't exercised yet so I'll post about that later.

Breakfast
1 bagel
tomato
cream cheese (not in excess)
3 egg whites
1 slice turkey bologna

Lunch
1 chicken, lettuce, pinto bean, green pepper, onion, corn burrito from Chipotle
unsweetened ice tea

Dinner
steamed white rice (about 1/2 cup)
Red Snapper

Heck, you ran the entire 3 miles and that doesn't count for the 5K? I'm sure walking in and out of the house counts for another .1 mile. Great job! And I'm all for taking it easy when things don't feel right. Got to avoid those injuries.

Skinny and bald. I'm thinking that's not a good look for you. :scared1:

I'm a big WW fan. Since you've been doing Atkins, I'd just try eating off the core diet (do they still call it that? You know, the South Beach type of plan...). It's so much more healthy. If you can keep the empty carbs off the meal plan that would be so awesome. Just reintroduce the healthy complex carbs. I did WW core for awhile and it was really great. Then once I introduced the sweets and bad carbs back, it's so hard to give them up. You have a jump start now into a better way of eating!

Just checking in!

Nice. Very excellent food choices today. And nice on the water. :thumbsup

I took another rest day. Back to the routine tomorrow.

Hey gals, I haven't posted for a couple reasons. First, I haven't exercised since Friday. Bad girl. Second, a big reason I haven't exercised since Friday is because we got our scale working and when I got on it, it said I had lost 1 pound.

ONE FRIGGIN POUND!!!

And that was after I cut out most sweets, ate healthy meals, exercised a ton, and upped my water intake for 2 weeks.

So, I'm mad, and I gotta get over it, I know. But right now, I HATE the scale and I'm not getting back on it, no way now how.:sad2:

I can run for maybe one minute and then have to walk at least two minutes to recuperate but I absolutely LOATHE running. My calves get so tight that I feel if I continue they will rip!

I can walk for miles (Disneyland is a great training ground:laughing:) with the right shoes.

Losing hair?!?!? :scared1: I would have thought something worse was happening. That's scary!

HI 'member me? I am back...

Ok I am so ASHAMED!! Seriously I am!
When I went to the dr today and I stepped on the scale and saw it, I just
wanted to cry. I feel like a failure. Really I do. Almost 8 years ago I had gastric bypass surgery and I lost A LOT!! Between 130-145 pounds.
I don't want to be 125 again, I looked really sick. I would be happy at 150/160/140.
I swear Jillian that woman hates me!
I have been doing her 30 day shred...I also have Bob's yoga.
I don't push myself yet because of my knee. But in July I will push myself again. I am looking into buying a treadmill so I can walk & watch tv instead of sit.
So I am spending this wk cleaning out the bad food in the house and Sunday I will be restocking it with good stuff!
I am starting Atkins on Monday.
Thanks for the info January :thumbsup2

So I weighed into day at 205...seriously I want to cry.

I am pretty sure I won't have any loss by Friday but this is a start.
Jordan will be starting training for soccer & football so the whole fam will be eating a whole lot better. He will need the carbs & I am hopelessly addicted them.
I really need to tone up my arms & legs.

But in the mean time, I will try to eat as healthy as I can with the crap food that is in my house.

Sorry you didn't lose more. I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but 1 pound a week is actually considered quite reasonable weight loss. But usually people lose more the first week they change their eating/exercise habits. Maybe you just weighed yourself the wrong time of day (my favorite excuse ;) ) You've got to weigh yourself in the morning before you've eaten anything....then the scales are more friendly.

Hopefully, you got some positive results from your two weeks of work -- better energy, better fitting clothes, just feeling better.

Definitely stick with the healthy lifestyle program. If you can do that without the scale, then I think that may work. Maybe just choose different goals for yourself that have to do with exercise or fitting into a certain size clothes - and you can go back to your scale later if you decide it would help, not hurt.

Welcome back!! :cheer2:
Please don't beat yourself up. :sad2: Just muster all that energy and put it to the positive. You can do it! :cheer2: For real. You can.

So I ended up buying a resistance band and accompaning video today and worked on my arms. I'm motivated by this idea of getting some Michelle Obama guns. OK. I don't need to get those, but just a little strength would be good, and a little definition would be really nice. I did about 40 minutes of the strength exercises called "front" and "back." It wasn't terribly fun, but it was OK.

I'm supposed to be going to Disneyland this weekend. I read my DS' class newsletter today and it said there's a nasty stomach virus going around kindergarden. I'm remembering back to our last Disneyland vacation where DS4 got violently ill our first night in Southern California. And then my DH got sick and we got stuck down there. Don't want a repeat of that. Send pixie dust that we can remain virus and influenze free. I've got to think positive! (does that work for getting sick too?)

Time to get to bed now. Later everyone...

Hi all! I love coming here and seeing so many have checked in!

I'm off now, we're going to Universal citywalk to eat and then watch DisneyNature: Earth!

Did you enjoy Earth? We have the blu-rays of the Planet Earth series by the BBC that this comes from. I know they added new footage though. It's so amazing.

Before I became a slug again, I had been swimming until I was in decent shpe, then I started to do weights and the like. It worked for me before, so hopefully, I will get there again!!

I've only been exercising again for about 3.5 weeks, and I can see a wee difference in my pudge. Maybe there is hope!!!

I just started this Obama arm routine last Tuesday. I haven't done arms since but I will tomorrow. In fact, I need to get to the point where I do weights more often. I'm just at the point where I am doing cardio almost every day. I work the core at my yoga classes and in some of the aerobic classes.

When I said it to my trainer (that I wanted Obama arms), I wasn't sure what he'd say. But he didn't laugh and in fact -- he said, "I think we can do better than that." :scared1::woohoo: He pointed out that she has some meat on her at which point the other trainer in the room with us joked about how she has some booty (the other trainer is also AA).

I would think he was just making me feel good but I've seen the before and after photos of women he has trained. His other trainer is an ex-client and she's getting ready to compete. :scared1: I'm just trying to stay alive.:rotfl2:

I ran into a friend who has wonderful arms. She said she walks with weights.

I ran the entire 3 miles...I find it hard to believe that I actaully can run without walking!

I am not sure I could do the elliptical for 40 mins! That is great that you can stay on that long! I want a Wii! But I also want a new bike and a Kindel so I'm not sure when I'll get a Wii but I think it would be a lot of fun!
!!

I really think that your run is more of a workout than my elliptical for 40 min. I watched the numbers today on the elliptical and the treadmill. I am averaging a 16.5 min mile doing very fast walking. I think the 5k requires a 15 minute mile, right Jen? That would put me into a run.

I am only on level 1 on the elliptical and I usually do not use the arm levers because they go too fast for the legs (at my gym - there's a better machine at my trainers gym). Anyway, let's get together at some point and do a fast walk in the real world and maybe I'll get a better sense of where I'm at.

I have achillis tendonitis so I can't run yet.

Baby steps are good! Losing hair is not. :scared1: btw hair loss is often a hormonal response... I'm not sure why Atkins would have done that to you.

I agree with Jen - go easy introducing carbs back into your diet. Good carbs - yams, brown rice...

I'm sorry you didn't get a bigger number. But losing is always better than gaining! Keep at it. It took me an entire year to lose 20 lb, so you see how I was only averaging like .5 lb a week (although of course it was more like 1 lb one week, nothing for 2). All that matters is that the numbers are going down and you're adopting a more healthy lifestyle. Good going!:thumbsup2

It's a great start!
About being addicted to carbs... (assuming bad carbs)- there are ways to get through that.

I'm remembering back to our last Disneyland vacation where DS4 got violently ill our first night in Southern California. And then my DH got sick and we got stuck down there. Don't want a repeat of that. Send pixie dust that we can remain virus and influenze free. I've got to think positive! (does that work for getting sick too?)"

Oh, that sounds awful. Your poor family!

Besides washing hands, bring Clorox wipes for the room and/or ask mousekeeping to wipe down everything (bathroom, phones) with bleach. Bring alcohol wipes in individual packages (from drug store) as they say we build up an immunity to Purelle.

pixiedust:

I did 55 min total of cardio today. Missed a class because the instructor went into the hospital. Ate more than I should have yesterday so am hoping by eating less today I will be back on track tomorrow....

The bands are great, Jen. I like them because you can travel with 'em.

Ok, NSV (non-scale victory) tonight
I have worked out three consecutive days! :cool1:
I drank 12 cups of water!

I wasn't sure if I was going to go for a run last night or let my sore thigh muscle have another rest day but I really wanted to so I did and I told my DBF that I was only going to do 2 miles and he laughed that I said 'only', I guess that is a something to smile about...only 2 miles when less than 3 months ago I could only run for 90 second intervals and I was freaking out about the 20 min. run!! So I went out and I did better than the 2 miles...I ran for almost 2.5 miles...I say almost because it was 2.44 miles according to mapmyrun.com! :rotfl: My thigh muscle was sore at first but then it loosened up and I just kept running all the way home! Amazing how this running gets in your blood, I would have never in a million years believed this would happen to me but I've caught the running bug!!

Also---I am officially back on WW. I loved Atkins. It was a great diet. I lost 26 pounds.

I am following WW too! It's going to be slow but at least I don't have to follow anything specific and you can eat carbs and I've done low carbs before and it's so hard! Let me know if you come across any good WW recipes and I'll do the same!

Heck, you ran the entire 3 miles and that doesn't count for the 5K? I'm sure walking in and out of the house counts for another .1 mile. Great job! And I'm all for taking it easy when things don't feel right. Got to avoid those injuries.
LOL! My DBF said the same thing and it drives him crazy! I always put down the exact numbers like 2.20 instead of saying I ran 2.25 miles. With the warm-up/cool-down walk I did do more than the 3.1 miles. So I did concede and say that I have officially graduated C25K after Sat. :dance3: We were talking last night and we might go out this weekend and run the 5k route that we had here in Simi a couple of weeks ago and I chickened out and didn't run.

It stinks, I know!!

Welcome back! I know it's not a place you want to be but at least you realized it before it was worse.

I just bought Jullians 30 day shred but haven't even opened it! How is it besides being tough?? I need to do something on my off day from running.

I bought a resistance band kit at Target this weekend too. :) I used to have the bands and did the Beach Body workout and it was great and I saw great results in my arms especially so I thought about trying that on my off days. I thought I had packed my bands when I moved to CA but I can't find them anywhere so I decided to just buy some more and maybe use the included DVD along with the Beach Body workout. I can't decide and I get bored easily so I have several choices now.

Sending you pixie dust that everyone stays healthy for your trip this weekend!:wizard: I want to go to DL on Mother's Day but it depends on what we are doing with DBF's mom but I may be there too if we get the chance to go!

I want nice arms again too! My upper body used to be my thinnest part but not now...ugh! I'm hoping Jillian or the resistance bands will help!

I am not sure what the 5K pace is but that sounds about right. I now average 14 min. miles and sometimes I can get into the 13min. range. Hopefully, if I decide to do the DL 5k I should be able to increase my pace by then. If not I should give up!!

Would love to get together and do a fast walk...but I may not be the best person for fast walking...I have these short legs that just don't seem to move very fast walking. I would rather run than walk fast seems easier in a way.:confused3

Ok, NSV (non-scale victory) tonight
I have worked out three consecutive days! :cool1:

I weighed Monday and didn't loose a thing since I weighed on Friday so I am ignoring my scales right now. I hate being good and not seeing a smaller number...even 1/2 lb would be nice!

I am so far from a superwoman. How funny you would think that of me. It's all those tags the tag fairy gave me, I guess. ;)

Isn't it funny...sometimes you're afraid to ask if you can have/achieve something and you expect the answer to be "lower your expectations" and then you hear "you can do better than that!" Lesson learned: ask for what you really want.

I don't really know how elliptical corresponds to walking speed. Do you use a treadmill? That might be a more comparable exercise. And yes, the speed is 15 minute mile - an it can be walking.

And what are the ways to get through being addicted to carbs? :confused3

NICE JOB!! How are you feeling with the exercise regime? Better energy??
That's a lot of water? Depends?

I'm going to go to the gym now to do my weight routine. It's rainy, so I don't know how/if the run is going to happen. Maybe I'll do some cardio on the machines.
