Hi all! I love coming here and seeing so many have checked in!
I'm off now, we're going to Universal citywalk to eat and then watch DisneyNature: Earth!
Did you enjoy Earth? We have the blu-rays of the Planet Earth series by the BBC that this comes from. I know they added new footage though. It's so amazing.
Before I became a slug again, I had been swimming until I was in decent shpe, then I started to do weights and the like. It worked for me before, so hopefully, I will get there again!!
I've only been exercising again for about 3.5 weeks, and I can see a wee difference in my pudge. Maybe there is hope!!!

Of course there is, the way you're going! You're a dynamo in the water!
Not sure I got all the arm exercises, but I get the idea. How long would you say you spend on your arms a week?
You know I'm embarassed to tell my trainer a goal that has to do with how I want to look. I can say I want to be able to achieve this goal of being able to accomplish this physical task (ie, 1/2 marathon), but I feel self conscious saying I want to look this way. Like he'd laugh in my face and say..."you?" "Michelle Obama arms?"..."Well, why don't we just give you a Jennifer Anistan body while were at it!"
I'm like a persistent little goat who just keeps getting out there. That's more accurate.
I love hearing that you are not superwoman after all. It gives us mortals hope.
I just started this Obama arm routine last Tuesday. I haven't done arms since but I will tomorrow. In fact, I need to get to the point where I do weights more often. I'm just at the point where I am doing cardio almost every day. I work the core at my yoga classes and in some of the aerobic classes.
When I said it to my trainer (that I wanted Obama arms), I wasn't sure what he'd say. But he didn't laugh and in fact -- he said, "I think we can do better than that."

He pointed out that she has some meat on her at which point the other trainer in the room with us joked about how she has some booty (the other trainer is also AA).
I would think he was just making me feel good but I've seen the before and after photos of women he has trained. His other trainer is an ex-client and she's getting ready to compete.

I'm just trying to stay alive.
I ran into a friend who has wonderful arms. She said she walks with weights.
I ran the entire 3 miles...I find it hard to believe that I actaully can run without walking!
I am not sure I could do the elliptical for 40 mins! That is great that you can stay on that long! I want a Wii! But I also want a new bike and a Kindel so I'm not sure when I'll get a Wii but I think it would be a lot of fun!
!!
I really think that your run is more of a workout than my elliptical for 40 min. I watched the numbers today on the elliptical and the treadmill. I am averaging a 16.5 min mile doing very fast walking. I think the 5k requires a 15 minute mile, right Jen? That would put me into a run.
I am only on level 1 on the elliptical and I usually do not use the arm levers because they go too fast for the legs (at my gym - there's a better machine at my trainers gym). Anyway, let's get together at some point and do a fast walk in the real world and maybe I'll get a better sense of where I'm at.
I have achillis tendonitis so I can't run yet.
I started walking today. I am taking super baby steps.
Also---I am officially back on WW. I loved Atkins. It was a great diet. I lost 26 pounds. But, I was also losing hair. In clumps. That is a side-effect. I would rather
have hair and lose slowly, than be bald and 115 by the end of summer, so here I am back to counting points. It is weird eating carbs again. But so nice! Anywho, I am expecting to gain about 5 pounds back this week due to the carbs. Who knows...maybe I won't.
Baby steps are good! Losing hair is not.

btw hair loss is often a hormonal response... I'm not sure why Atkins would have done that to you.
I agree with Jen - go easy introducing carbs back into your diet. Good carbs - yams, brown rice...
Hey gals, I haven't posted for a couple reasons. First, I haven't exercised since Friday. Bad girl. Second, a big reason I haven't exercised since Friday is because we got our scale working and when I got on it, it said I had lost 1 pound.
ONE FRIGGIN POUND!!!
And that was after I cut out most sweets, ate healthy meals, exercised a ton, and upped my water intake for 2 weeks.
So, I'm mad, and I gotta get over it, I know. But right now, I HATE the scale and I'm not getting back on it, no way now how.
I'm sorry you didn't get a bigger number. But losing is always better than gaining! Keep at it. It took me an entire year to lose 20 lb, so you see how I was only averaging like .5 lb a week (although of course it was more like 1 lb one week, nothing for 2). All that matters is that the numbers are going down and you're adopting a more healthy lifestyle. Good going!
HI 'member me? I am back...
Ok I am so ASHAMED!! Seriously I am!
When I went to the dr today and I stepped on the scale and saw it, I just
wanted to cry. I feel like a failure. Really I do. Almost 8 years ago I had gastric bypass surgery and I lost A LOT!! Between 130-145 pounds.
I don't want to be 125 again, I looked really sick. I would be happy at 150/160/140.
I swear Jillian that woman hates me!
I have been doing her 30 day shred...I also have Bob's yoga.
I don't push myself yet because of my knee. But in July I will push myself again. I am looking into buying a treadmill so I can walk & watch tv instead of sit.
So I am spending this wk cleaning out the bad food in the house and Sunday I will be restocking it with good stuff!
I am starting Atkins on Monday.
Thanks for the info January
So I weighed into day at 205...seriously I want to cry.
I am pretty sure I won't have any loss by Friday but this is a start.
Jordan will be starting training for soccer & football so the whole fam will be eating a whole lot better. He will need the carbs & I am hopelessly addicted them.
I really need to tone up my arms & legs.
But in the mean time, I will try to eat as healthy as I can with the crap food that is in my house.
It's a great start!
About being addicted to carbs... (assuming bad carbs)- there are ways to get through that.

"I'm supposed to be going to
Disneyland this weekend. I read my DS' class newsletter today and it said there's a nasty stomach virus going around kindergarden. I'm remembering back to our last Disneyland vacation where DS4 got violently ill our first night in Southern California. And then my DH got sick and we got stuck down there. Don't want a repeat of that. Send pixie dust that we can remain virus and influenze free. I've got to think positive! (does that work for getting sick too?)"
Oh, that sounds awful. Your poor family!
Besides washing hands, bring Clorox wipes for the room and/or ask mousekeeping to wipe down everything (bathroom, phones) with bleach. Bring alcohol wipes in individual packages (from drug store) as they say we build up an immunity to Purelle.
I did 55 min total of cardio today. Missed a class because the instructor went into the hospital. Ate more than I should have yesterday so am hoping by eating less today I will be back on track tomorrow....
The bands are great, Jen. I like them because you can travel with 'em.
