Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

Hi Ladies-
I'm off. Heading to drop off the kids at grandparents' and the on to Jet Blue to Long Beach. Taxi to Hyatt Huntington (should be nice!) and then all I have to do today is pick up my bib and get ready to run with 18,000 of my new closest friends on Sunday. My start time is 8am and I plan to finish in 2:30 to 3 hours. I'm feeling better now that all is packed and we are leaving. Let's get this party started!:cool1:
Have a great weekend and I will be back to tell you all about it!
Thank for all your support as I trained and prepared for this. :grouphug:

Sorry I didn' t make it here yesterday. It was a busy day for me. My oldest got new hearing aids, and they are little tiny in the canal aids and he is so excited about them. They require a seperate device to run them, because there is no room for switches and whatnot. So, he got a really cool swiss watch that has all his programing and volume buttons on it. He is in 7th Heaven and best part is, he wore his aids all day! Anyhow, we had a celebration lunch, and then that darn job was waiting for me to get caught up.

I did take time to weigh in, and I am either dead even, or down one. Dissapointing for sure because I have been pretty darn good and feel I should have lost one or two, but what the heck, maybe next week I will lose 3 or 4??

And I agree Beth, you have had a ton of success, and should be darn proud of yourself. So harness your inner Chi and get in the groove again and you will be out of those darn teens before you know it!

Well, I missed the send off, but Go Jen, Go. CAn't wait to hear how your run went.

I do know that if I ever ran or even walked for 2 to 3 hours, you would probably have to pick me up off the floor!

Have a great weekend. I am pre-packing for my Feb. 14 trip, so that some of my anxiety can be relieved. I just know I am going to forget a lot of important stuff!

Tracey

Good luck Jen!!!

And Tracey that is great news about your son. Congrats to him!!

OKay so I wanted to make a list for myself. You all can read it if you want to, but you don't have to. LOL

There are approximately 5 weeks before the ladies only trip. If I can lose just 2 lbs. a week, that's 10 more pounds. That's not too shabby. So that's my new goal.

Now there are steps I need to follow to reach that goal:

1. Cut back on diet soda. Drink as much water as possible.

2. Start keeping a food journal again.

3. Walk! In the house, outside, where ever for at least 20 minutes a day. If I do more, fine, but at least that.

4. Plan cheat days. This works for me because it gives me something to look forward to. So on days when I'm tempted to cheat, I can tell myself, "No, wait for such and such day when you can splurge on something really worth it."
List of planned cheat days:
Feb. 1 - lunch out with Amy and Jane
Feb. 14 - a take out Valentines dinner with Ruben and the kids.
Feb. 22 - out to eat with the family
and finally March 5-9!! Free for all at Disney. :rotfl:

This is great Beth!! The water and journaling has really helped me. Plus, I am logging what I eat at that daily plate site so it totals up all the calories, fat, proteins, etc. Keeps me on track and once you start using it it keeps a list of your foods so it is so quick to just click on the things I eat.

I'm not sure if I am going to cheat tomorrow...we'll see. I may try to find something that is on track. I tend to be one of those people who think I can just have one treat and then fall off the deep end. We'll see...

But I have to say, since I started exercising, I feel great! I'm not doing anything spectacular, just walk at home tapes, etc. But I was so out of shape and the first time killed me...now it's not hard and I feel so much better through the day. I'm gonna try to keep it up.

Amy

That is great to hear Amy. The above is pretty much my whole plan. It is working so fare. Thanks for the congrats on leaving the 2's. I am really thrilled and hope that I will be celebrating with you too, when you reach that goal. It sounds like you have a great plan to get there!

Oh my gosh, I think Capri sent her sick germs to me. Fighting a sore throat. Really didn't want to exercise today, but pushed through it. Yesterday I hit the baseball field with my 12 year old and pitched to him for batting practice, and then because I actually managed to get some of the balls over the plate and he hit them, I got to run around the field and shag balls too. That was all the exercise I could do yesterday, other than housework.

Overall , a nice, but busy weekend is drawing to an end. I will have a hectic week because my director is out of town so I am doing both our jobs. Hope you all have a great week.
Tracey

Thanks Tracey! We can do this!!

Amy

So I did ok yesterday though I didn't work out. I actually weighed in this morning and I weigh 10 lbs less than I thought I did! So no seatbelt extender for me...as long as I can keep up with healthy eating for the next 5 weeks! I can do it!

Sarah

Thank you all for your kind words!

Thats awesome Sarah! And of course you can do it!!:goodvibes

Happy Weigh-in Day everyone!!! :cool1:

I am down two pounds to 215.4 but I am still totally disgusted with myself. I've been looking over my weight loss chart and I realized that I have been playing with the same 10 pounds since October!!!!!!

OCTOBER! That's four months!! I'd go up a little, then down a little, then up, then down, up, down, and so on.

It's ridiculous! I mean, what a waste of time. I am so angry at myself for doing that. I could be down to 200 by now instead of still playing around in the teens. UGH!!!! :sad2:

Oh well. Sorry to go off like that but when I saw those numbers back from October it really made me mad. But hopefully it will give me the determination I need to get serious and keep losing.

Good luck to you Jen!!! You are our hero and we are all rooting for you!!!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Beth....you had a LOSS!! That is ALL that matters!! Don't worry about what has happened since October. If you keep losing a little bit each week you will be there before you know it!!

Amy

OK, Beth. I'm sorry if I sound mean, but I think you need a dose of gratitude. I checked back to beginning of January and you were 226. You are down OVER ten pounds in less than a month. That is incredible. Since the new year you have done SO well and it's time to let go of the mistakes you made over the holidays. Focus on what you want more of...focus on all success you have had and the weight loss you've achieved since the new year. You are doing as well as (or I think better actually) than any of us since the new year. Let's have a little appreciation and recognition of what's really happening.

Sorry to get on my pulpit here, but it's time to get over the mistakes of Halloween and Christmas treats and to EMBRACE and FEEL GOOD about the success you have had in the new year! That's how to keep the momentum going. GIVE YOURSELF A HUG! Keep it going! :cheer2: You are doing well in terms of weight loss!

Yeah!!! What she said!! :cheer2:

Hi all,

I caught up with the posts and am sooo proud of everyone!!

Sorry I only get here on the weekends but things tend to run pretty crazy for me this time of the year. But I always think about this thread during the workweek and look forward to checking in on the weekend!!

I weighed in yesterday and was down to 230 even. So another 2.5 pounds gone and a total of 13.5 since I started 3 weeks ago!! I'll take what I can get. I can't wait to see something that starts with a 22 next weigh in instead of a 23!! Each step brings me closer to getting out of the 200's and I can't wait!!

I'm gaining momentum because I'm starting to think I can meet the 20 lb goal I had set to achieve before our trip in March!!

Hope you all had a wonderful week! Keep it up!!

Amy

Congrats Amy!! That is great! I can't even really START on my exercise till after my surgery next week so I probably won't lose anything till after the trip but that's ok cuz even if I did I would probably gain it back on the trip anyway LOL. But good job!!

Last night we had chinese which is one of my WORST splurges. I ALWAYS pack on a few pounds after eating that! But it seems my body figured out for me that it didn't want it cuz after I ate it I was up half the night getting RID of it. (sorry TMI) but I don't think I will be eating that again any time soon.

I guess all these months of trying to get myself into eating healthy has made a change and now when I DO eating stuff like that my body rejects it which I guess is a good thing!

I am bouncing back and forth between 154 and 153 which is good I guess because I AM down from the 155/156 that I was hanging at before. I just want to get out of the 150's so that is MY challenge. And of course once I get in the 140's I want to take it even further and get in the 130's. That is my goal but knowing me then I may even want the unattainable and try to get to the 120's. DOUBTFUL that I would even be able to obtain THAT but you get these crazy ideas LOL. I USED to be 125 a LONG time ago so I can dream I guess LOL. At this point I would be happy to just get out of the stupid 150's!

Anyway congrats again and good luck to us all!

Kelly....your current weight is less than my goal weight..lol. I can't even imagine thinking about the 120's. I think the last time I was 120 I was 12..lol.

You are so close to 150..just focus on that. That's what helps me. I try to focus on little goals partly because they are more achievable, and partly because I can constantly set new ones and it helps me keep motivated.

We can do this!!

It’s the morning after the race. And how do I feel? Well, my legs are barking, my feet are screaming and I wish I had a walker to help me move around the house. Other than that, I feel GREAT! I did it! I proved to myself that I can change and transform and with hard work can even, dare I say….be a little bit athletic. Still doesn’t roll off the tongue, but I said it!

This started back almost a year ago. Realizing that the big 4-0 was quickly creeping up on me and that there was no time like the present to get started fulfilling my potential, I decided to train for a run. Why did I decide to run a race? Many people have asked this question and I’m not quite sure how to answer it. Seems it was a combination of events. First, I’d seen peers in my exercise class sign up for a bike race and watched them get really fit and was a little jealous and wanted to do the same, but had no interest in racing a bike. Also, I had read some of the WISH boards and the idea of having some kind of exercise event IN a Disney park certainly got my interested. But my mother thinks the real reason I did this was this: we went on a family vacation and I got asked three times if I was my brother’s older sister (he’s 4 ½ years older than me!!). The point is, it wasn’t a really thought out decision, but more of an inspiration that I decided to act on and I called a physical trainer and began training.

It was one week before the 2008 DL Divas meet that I first met with the trainer. He was supportive and we didn’t decide on the exact race I was training for – maybe a 10k maybe a half marathon. He just told me I needed a running base and sent me off to run/walk 15 minutes a day, three times a week for three weeks. And that’s how I started. From there I added in some strength training and gradually added in more minutes of training each week. I had a couple of smaller victories in this training program. I ran 10k in August and then 8.5 miles around my neighborhood lake in October. So I had some medium targets to focus on that helped me in my journey to the half marathon.

In the very beginning I saw the trainer regularly, but that got expensively quickly and I was doing very well following his direction on my own, so I cut it back to meeting about 1 time a month. He provided me with training plans for my goals (eg, 3 month plan for the 10k, 3 month plan for the Run Around the Lake) and I diligently followed the plan. My trainer asked me the other day what I was thinking when I started this program and I told him, “I wasn’t. That’s why I paid you. So you could do the thinking for me and I could just follow plan.” And I did. Even during the holidays (yes, I even ran on Christmas!) and when I didn’t feel inspired.

So that’s the pre-story. Will get to the half marathon with pics soon!

Hi Beth and everyone!!

I decided to check out your thread, and I'd have to say that you all are so inspirational!! I love what all of you are sharing, and I'm only on page 4. I have a long way to catching up.

I used to be really good at exercising. Especially weights, which are so good for the bones. Now it seems I let all the busyness of life get in the way. :sad2:

I need to get my rear in gear, and get something going again.:cool1:

Thankyou so much!!!

WOW!!!!

Congrats Jen!!!! What a story!!! I love it!

You are a true inspiration for us all! :cheer2:

Thanks so much Amy and you are right. I do try to concentrate on just breaking the current 10 lb mark that I am at. Then once I get into the next 10 lbs then I start widdling away at that. I have been sitting in these 150's though for a looong time so once I start back to my working out that is going to be my first BIG goal is to break this 150 mark and make it STICK!!! Then I can start focusing on getting into the mid 140's and going from there.

And Jen CONGRATS! Running is one thing I can't do. I have REALLY bad cartlidge in my knees and I can't even do jogging. I have to do walking but I admire people that can run. It is really great cardio. Can't wait to see your pics and hear the rest of your report!

I did it!
:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: I was thinking about you yesterday and cheering you on! Congrats Jen! I bet you feel like a million bucks right now, minus sore legs of course. LOL
