Disneyland ½ Marathon Weekend~2012 Check-in!

Do you have any race results that help support a faster time? I know they can make corral changes at the expo if you show proof of a faster time. Even a 10k may be enough--but not sure about that one.

Yes, you can definately use a 10K for time. DH, DBIL and myself used a 10K for our time placement. Haven't printed out my waiver yet.....darn printer is out of ink..so not sure where we've been placed yet.

Have they unveiled what the medal will look like yet?

Same as last year but with the new year (of course). Lol. Different ribbon.

Seems like they would change the medal up just to keep people coming back.

They only change the medal on 5th anniversary years. So if you ran the race years 4, 5, & 6, you'd have 3 different medals.

I'm glad they don't change them every year. I like the classic look of some of the medals. I was not a big fan of the painted 5th anniversary medal and was glad to see them go back to gold. I also like the classic WDW full mickey medal (simple mickey head outline) and am glad I got one before they changed it.

I'm super excited about running the DL half! I've done the princess at WDW twice and I'm doing the C2C challenge this year! Not only that, but this will be my first time ever visiting California and Disneyland!!!! For those that have done both this and the Princess, how do the temps and course compare?

You're going to have so much fun!

As for temps, I did Princess the 1st yr, so can't really compare. But the past 2 years have been decent. During the day it was high70s - low 80s. For the race sun was out but not hot. The 2 yrs before we had coastal fog for the race, hopefully it'll be back this year. Temps during the race have been good, plus the sun will mostly be at your side or back. And once you hit the trail around 8 1/2 it'll be side then back the rest of the way.

As for course, the big difference is that the no parks part are city streets. Plus side is more shade than WDW, minus is that no Disney characters. There will be bands and other groups out there too. The characters will be out and around in the parks and floats backstage. And like WDW, it's mostly flat. The "hills" are over/ underpasses. If I'm counting right there are a total of 3. There are some slight inclines around the trail and the stadium, but nothing too bad.

Hope that helps! If you'd like some more course detail, just let me know, I pretty much could run the race blindfolded! :rotfl2: Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

So, for those who have done this before, i am expecting that it will be busy at the parks of course, but is it a lot busier than for example summer weekends would be or about the same?
Thanks.

It's not that bad. Comparing it to this summer is hard, b/c of Cars Land and all the new people. But comparing it to past years, it's less than summer weekends, but more than a down time of year, if that makes sense. A lot of people are back in school so that helps. POC is b/w 10-15, Splash, Peter Pan, Indy and Space are around 40 or so. In DCA, TOT is around 15 and TSMM is around 35-40. HM will be down b/c of Halloween. It'll be interesting to see how things play out and where people go that weekend, b/c of the race and people not normally coming to the resort.

I am not running the 1/2 (running Tink in Jan) but will be in the parks the tuesday after the race. Will I be able to get any tech gear that week? Or should I just order off the Disney website? I am looking mostly at the rundisney hat.

I'd wait until you're there, that way if they have it, you can save $ on the shipping and if they don't you can order when you get back. Check w/ the store in ESPN Zone and the DL Hotel Store. That's where I saw stuff last year during race weekend last year, they might leave it out until they sell out.

Thanks you for your prompt reply! I hope you don't mind if I ask another question...
I'm staying at the grand Californian, based on the course map it doesn't seem that far from there to the start. What time would you say I should head out towards my choral (A)?

I'd say if you leave your room 1/2 an hour before you're required to be in the corrals you should be okay. ;)

I decided to run 13.1 miles this morning. It's my 40th birthday and thought why not.....start my day off with a 1/2 marathon run. The last little bit was tough but I did get through it. Feeling sore and tired right now and just wondering for those of you that have run this race before, do you freshen up and then go to the parks afterwards or do you make it a pool day and head to the parks in the evening. A pool day is sounding really good right now!

What a great gift to yourself! Happy birthday! I ran 9 today and have done very little since then....feeling very lazy. Although I have not done this race before, we have decided to not do the parks until Monday and Tuesday. I will use Sunday to go to the pool, nap and have a nice meal. Then we will hit the parks refreshed and ready to go.

I will freshen up and spend the day in the parks. I did that after Disneyland half last year and Tinker Bell this year. I was slow moving through the parks but I found that by staying on my feet and continuing to move, I had no soreness the next day. The times I run a half marathon and then rest for the remainder of the day are the times I'm the most sore.
