Disneyland ½ Marathon Weekend~2012 Check-in!

Now that I'm already registered for the 1/2 a part of me is wondering if I should do the 5K as well or if that's a little too much for me right now. I wouldn't have been able to do it for the Tink but I should be in better shape by then. I'd be more likely to if some Divas I knew were going to do it too

I bet you would do fine. Tinkerbell was my very first half marathon and I just started running in September. I completely slacked off about a month prior to Tinkerbell and the longest I had run was about 8 miles (a month before Tink! I don't recommend that :rotfl:). When we arrived Friday morning and were picking up our packets, I decided on a whim that I wanted to run with my husband so we signed up for the Never Land 5k that was happening that night! I figured I would take it slow, have fun, stop for lots of pictures, and not worry about time. Ha! :lmao: The competitive side of me came out and I decided to take off and ended up with a time less than 2 minutes slower than my normal 5k time. The next day, I was a bit sore...LOL. And Sunday morning, realized I was definitely sore! But I ran the 1/2 and came in under my goal of 3 hours at 2:51, even with a big ol' blister on my toe and bruised up toenails! If I can do both in a weekend, being a newbie runner and completely slacking on my training the month prior, you can certainly do it!!

I'm jealous of all the DL 1/2 runners! I wish I could swing it but I've got 5 half marathons in between now and the Wine and Dine, plus Bay to Breakers. Hubby put his foot down and said "No" to any more money being forked out if I want to fly to Orlando for the Wine and Dine :confused3 So I had to choose and I want my Coast to Coast!!! I hope everyone has a great time and I'm hoping I can make it in 2013 to the DL 1/2 (along with Tinkerbell, of course....have to be a legacy runner for that!).

This will be my first 1/2 Marathon as well! My BFF and her hubby have done a few in SF but this will be there first time at the LAND! Very excited but nervous as well since I suffer from bad feet and having what will hopefully be my last surgery in April. I should heal in a month with just enough time to train using Jeff's methods. Looking forward to the challenge and hoping it will shape up my body in time for our 4th Disney cruise aboard the Fantasy in October! :rotfl:

Love it!! B/c they changed the dates around on us, I'm doing the Goofy races the weekend before Tink next year, but I will finish to be a legacy runner even if I have to crawl over the finish line on my hands and knees!! :rotfl2:

Where would you all recommend staying for the half marathon? We're planning on flying in Friday night and checking out Sunday after the half, and don't really need anything too fancy (anything with a free airport shuttle is a plus!) Also, for first timers in DL, would you a) go to DL 2 days (half day Friday and full day Saturday) or b) just Saturday full day? And on that, would it be worth it for a parkhopper pass or just 1 park pass? I've only really found information for 3+ day passes. DBF is not much of a ride person (I'm a big fan though so hopefully I can sneak on a few :teeth:).

Anywhere on Harbor is good and and easy access to the parks and the race. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there are any hotels that have free shuttles, but it's not that expensive, $10 from Orange County and I think $16-17 from LAX. As for the parks, I would split it over 2 days, you don't want to go all day Saturday, you'll be tired for the race. A park hopper is up to you, the new Cars Land is opening in June, it'll be crowded but neat to check out. For purchasing tix, the GetTravel website has discounted race tix and you can pick them up at the expo when you get your bib stuff. I think you have until the beginning of August to order so you can still mull it over! :goodvibes

We just booked the BWPPI for the Disneyland Half weekend! I was able to squeeze an extra day out of work, so we'll be there from 8/29 to 9/4. YAHOO!!!

Just updated the reg #'s. The 1/2 is already at 73% and the 5k is at 60%.

I usually cruise as my vacation only, however I saw the disney half marathons and they looked like so much fun I tried to book one around the half and it worked out (and good excuse to visit disneyland, i've always wanted to go!)

no, this will be on the carnival splendor

I :lovestruc the Splendor! I've sailed on her twice. :)

My mom started Couch to 5K last week. I really want her to do the 5K in September. She comes with me to cheer me on during the half and I think she'd have fun earning her own medal. We're going to wait a few more weeks to see if she thinks she can handle the 3.1 miles. She has hip and feet issues.

How strict are they on the 16 minute mile pace for the 5K?

They're not that strict. There aren't any corrals, so she can go near the front for more time. I think it's kinda like the 1/2 where it's the last person who crosses the start type of thing. When I did it w/ my sister a couple of years ago and our time was around 55 or so and we were fine. I think she'll be okay! :goodvibes

I'm in for the 1/2 marathon. Running Princess this month and doing this Disneyland 1/2 on my birthday! Wooo hooo - Coast to Coast! *fingers crossed* for good health.

Anyone else celebrating a bday or coast to coast during this race?

OK, I think I've made my decision and I'm doing the 5K as well. Just waiting until payday and then I'm registering for that as well.

Yes. I'll be going for my C2C. I did the WDW Half in January. It was my first one and it was so much fun!!:)

Me too, on all counts! Did the WDW half in January, was my first half ever, and had an absolute blast. Also going to DL for the half in Sept. to get my C2C! Can't wait- I'm thinking this DL Half will be the final nail in the coffin towards an addiction with runDisney events... after all, combining a healthy habit with my favorite vacation spots seems to be a win-win to me :thumbsup2

Bursley, I'm right there with you! And now my husband is hooked. I do think I am going to enjoy the half even more than the marathon - particularly AFTERWARDS! Wahoo for Coast to Coast!

How strict are they on the 16 minute mile pace for the 5K?

NOT! At the 5k on Labor Day, we started in the very back next to the strollers because my best friend was running with a child patient who was in a stroller due to many varied health issues. It was sooooooooooooo crowded, we really didn't do a lot of 'running'. Mile 1= 27.07 Mile 2= 45.35 and finish was 1:02:56!

I'm betting your mom can beat that just walking!

Registered for my 2nd DLR 1/2 so will be going Coast to Coast again :)

Now hope airfare drops in the next few months-

Staying at the Super 8 on Katella again (LOVE that hotel)

Just bought my airfare...so I guess we're really going now!

I just realized that in addition to doing Disney's C2C at that race I'll literally be running coast to coast that week--I have a half on the beach in New Jersey 8/26 and then on in California a week later!

The website updated their #'s again.

The 1/2 is at 79%
The 5k is at 66%
The Kids Races are at 54%

I'm guessing by the end of the month, possible 2 weeks the 1/2 could sell out especially w/ the #'s getting higher, so if you're on the fence, you better sign up! :hourglass

I'm still working on her...she did two days of Couch to 5K and a lot of her foot pain came back so I told her to try power walking instead of jogging.

Well, I went ahead and took the bait. I just registered for the 5K. :woohoo: I'm going to have fun with that this year and stop for some character photos this time since I probably wont during the 1/2.

My hubby and I are running the 1/2 and our girls are running the kids races. I decided in January (at Hojo next to Disneyland, in fact) that I wanted to train for the race. This is huge as I have always HATED running. My family was shocked and amused but I have been running three times a week since January 1st. I'm already up to 4.5 miles from NOTHING so my hubby says I am doing great. Looking forward to the race!
