I meant to post this to your post that you had three openings yet for the December 18th class at AK. Sorry, kinda new to this...

We have just learned about the Y.E.S. program and wanted to take part, but not sure we want to do it in January. I think I read in a previous post of yours that you have a 5 year old - are you planning anything for that child? We have an 8 and a 5 year old and if we do the Y.E.S. program, we would like to get both kids involved. I saw some classes are available for 5 year olds, but I believe the one you are planning requires kids to be in at least 2nd grade - is that right? Our plans are very flexible, and are possibly interested in your December dates if we can get both kids involved.

I am coordinating a class for December 18th at AK. Right now I have 7 signed up and need 3 more to make it official. I just spoke to someone at the 800 number I listed above and was told it should NOT be a problem to include a 5y/o in the class, but the Youth Group Team would have to approve it. Actually this is great news to me as I may be able to enroll our son also. :woohoo:

Who is the Youth Group Team and do you know how to get approval? It seems to me that if you are coordinating the class, as long as you feel the group is ok with having 5 year olds participate, then they should let you. Otherwise I know they do have classes for 5 year olds ( I think its something to do with Motion) that may be another possibility - but I do think a class at AK would be cool. Thanks.

There is a phone number I would call and get a verbal approval from the coordinators who set up the class.

Yes, there is another class for younger students, but I am sticking with this one since I have others already signed up.

If you want to join us, let me know. :)

I was looking to see if anyone has a group going August 22-28 that needs to add students. I have 3 kids that I can enroll.

So do you have to join a group to take advantage of this? My kids would love to do something different. We are going Aug 28- Sept 5.... Thanks

I would also like to join a group for the 20th-29th of August. I have 6 high school kids going and possibly 2 elementary. How do I find groups that need members?

I would be interested in an August group also! We are there 8/21-8/27 and I have a 9 yr old and a 5 yr old. Does anyone know how it works if we have all different ages?

Thanks!!

I emailed the carolina homeschool group to see since we are totally overlapping their dates and I would love for my kindergartener to do this!

I will talk to my friends tomorrow/today and see what they think. I can call Disney and ask about the age difference. If we all need to take the same program there are some that cover 3rd - 12th grade and I saw a post that said younger kids could also participate. I will post again tomorrow and let you know what I find out.

Thanks! I went and read a little more and that would be great if we could get all the ages in the group so everyone can participate. Sounds like they are pretty accomodating. There seem to be a couple that you mentioned that cover 3rd to 12th (might have even seen one that was 2nd-12th?). I also saw the animal one that another DIS group is doing that seemed great- smaller age range but maybe they could accomodate b/c everyone from 5-18 probably would stay interested in that. Let me know if you'd like me to do anything b/c this would be great!!!

The friends are definitely interested. I called, but the Disney office isn't open on the weekends. I will get on this Monday morning and get more info.

I just read thru some posts on another thread and it looks like YES requires the groups to be broken into grades: K-5th and 6th-12th. Also, there is a Facebook page setup by one of the board members - look for L.E.A.P. and sign up for your dates there. All that being said, we would need 10 kids in each age group. Hmmmm.

FYI - I'm pretty new to this and I need to have 7 more posts before I can reply to private messages.

If you go to the YES Programs link you can find descriptions of all the classes offered.

If you don't have enough students for a group, check out the Open Enrollment section to see if there are classes offered during the time you are there.
