Disney Wonder to be homeported in Los Angeles

I have to tell ya I'm thrilled about this news!!! Now if I ever want to get my DCL fix between cruises, I can go down to the port to see the Wonder! LOL

Of course, I don't know if that will make me feel better or worse!:confused3 ;)

Well, while I would like to see it based in Great Britain, Barcelona's a beautiful city and that would be OK with me too.

I would love it, but apart from 2012 Olympics I cant see GB being home port, Barcelona is a perfect place to have a home port for the Med, for week/10/11 night cruises, the only alternative is Palma Majorca

Looks like San Diego lost out.

We have been saying for ages now, a ship will go to LA.

Looks like Dreams will take over 3/4 night Wonder Cruises

Magic stays on 7 night Caribbean routes

Captain Henry has been talking in private to various people over the last few months that he will take charge of the Dreams and the Wonder would move away to West coast USA, &/0r Mexico. I had a few PM's on this.

I wish that they would replace the Magic with the Dream:thumbsup2 we would like to cruise the new ship but have no interest in doing a 3 or 4 night cruise. It looks like we will be doing the new Carnival Dream next year:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I have to say I am on your side on this one and was holding out all hope that it would be the Magic going to LA, and the Dreams taking over its route, that too me makes more sense.

However I was told in many PM's that Captain Henry was saying to a lot of people he gets the first ship and the Wonder is off to the West coast.

Now thinking about this with the Magic going through the Panama Canal four times to date and the experience of all those Panama and West coast posts of call you would think the magic would go.(Yes I know Panama pilots take the ship through the Canal and staff take orders, but my point is experience).

But the Wonder going is a clear signal that the Dreams takes over the 3/4 night cruises

This is awesome. I cannot wait for DCL to come closer to me. Now I need to start saving so I can finally go on one of their cruises! Does anyone have a trip report from those past Southern-California cruises? I'm wondering where the cruise will go to..Mexico, Alakaska, etc?
I would think Mexico based on their previous cruises. However, if they put both the Wonder and the Magic out there then who knows, maybe both??? Wouldn't that be super cool!! :thumbsup2

I just watched the news report. They made the media announcement at The El Capitan.

The contract hasn't been ratified yet, but I'm sure that's just a formality.

Stats as per Mayor Villariagosa:
250,000 passengers
2,600 new jobs
7 million in state and local taxes

This is what the director of the port is hoping for:
3.7 million a year by passengers
4 million a year by crew members

Ya'll better bring your wallets when you head to the West Coast. ;)

The news report said that Disney is adding a new European route, but I'm chalking that up to the Magic being there on a temporary basis... for now. ;)

For those hoping for a Christmas/New Years repo, sorry but no go. I checked the DCL website. The Wonder is actually doing the 7 nights Eastern/Western over the holidays 2010 because the Magic is doing the 10/11 day special cruises during that time slot. So maybe early January!! That's okay. I'll go then. The weather will be perfect!!!! :thumbsup2

Dreams replaces the Wonder 3/4 night cruises, thats why the Wonder is going. The ''Mexican Rivera'; part of the schedule out there will be 7 night cruises.(Same as before), but it will not do thoose all the time.

I know this may sound silly but do we know what ship is coming out in 2011 is it the Dream or Fantasy?

Cool! :) Great find, as usual.

Interesting that the Wonder is going out West. Maybe they will offer some shorter 3/4 night Mexico itineraries as well as 7 night similar to other cruiselines.

Thanks. That makes the most sense. The 3/4 night Florida cruises, along with the land & sea options, are their bread & butter. It makes the most sense to add the capacity with the newbuild there first.

If the Wonder is doing 3/4 nights, will they include San Diego as a stop? Everybody is a winner that way.

Is there anything saying that Dreams will "replace" the Wonder's routes? Just because the Wonder is going to the West Coast? :confused3 Why cant Dreams do the 7 days, Magic take over the 3/4 days? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to put the bigger ship on the smaller route. (At least it doesn't to me)

People would book DCL's new ship - even if it sat at Port Canaveral! :rotfl2:

The new ships would have to do a South American cruise to get to CA!

Sorry, realy do not understand this post, we know the new ships are based at PC and we know they will not fit through the Panama canal, so????

The question was does the first new ship take over the Wonder route or the Magic route(s)

New ships will not be going to LA, the Wonder is....

It make a lot of sense to put the new ship on the boring old route. That's how you fill the ship.
