How do you keep in contact with your party? We have not cruised on DCL in 10 years last time that we were on DCL they had the wave phones.

Anyone who downloads the DCL app before boarding (even if they do not have a Disney account) can sign into the app once onboard, using their name and stateroom number, and send text messages within the app to others onboard. (Kids under 13 may need parental approval.) The app works even if you don’t purchase an Internet package. Be aware that messages don’t always come through immediately, though.

The DCL app can be hit or miss for delivering messages. We’ve had the best luck with downloading WhatsApp- it works on the free DCL Wi-Fi for texting, and you can even have group chats going

We found WhatsApp to work better for communicating than the DCL app. DCL app was not reliable. We did not purchase wifi but could communicate onboard as well as with family and friends at home using WhatsApp.

Another advantage of WhatsApp (which may or may not be relevant) is that it works well with both Apple and Android.
