Disney Wonder to be homeported in Los Angeles

... does that mean it will be cruising the Mexican Riviera regularly? What other possible itineraries could it have? Alaska? Hawaii? Methinks it would make more sense to have the Wonder cruising the Mexican Riviera and move the Magic to Hawaii permanently. The two new ships, Dream and Fantasy, can then service the current itineraries. Of course this all depends on what DCL can negotiate with the various homeports. Regardless, that's some really exciting news about the Wonder, particularly if you live in the West Coast. :thumbsup2

dcl will not have a ship in hawaii. to have a ship in hawaii will cost dcl a lot they will have to have an american crew and pay at least minimum wage. ncl has one ship in hawaii but they are the only cruise line. now dcl can have cruises going to hawaii roundtrip that stops at a foreign port. or do one ways there and back stopping at a foreign port. but they will not have one that leaves from hawaii and returns to hawaii too much money and the crew will not be as good. you get a ship of americans working for minimum wage will not be that good.

^^^Sad to say that's probably true. May be they will send the Magic to LA too. Then they could have it stop somewhere in Mexico before heading out to Hawaii. ;)

havent had a chance to read all the post. I'm here in So calif. How does a repo work? Does that mean i would buy cruise package to florida and fly back or vice versa? Repos are much cheaper right? I've never cruised but its next on my list

Yay- we are getting a Disney ship!!! I'm so thrilled, and I didn't even think of doing a repo cruise. Now I have something to look forward to! :woohoo: Does anyone have an idea/guess when we can start booking? This is wonderful (no pun intended) news!!:cloud9:

yes repos are usually cheaper for the days that you are getting. since you live in southern california, you will only need a one way ticket to orlando.than most people will fly back home from LA

The top DCL Specialist TA's have had a fantastic record in booking special cruises, any Panama crossing seems to engender a lot of panic, but book with one of these and you will not need to worry, or hang on the phone for hours, or get your blood pressure up when the DCL site folds!

Do go with DCL Specialist TA's other TA's do not understand the 'speed' required.

Who are the DCL speacialists?

Darn, I don't see how we can justify pulling kids for a spring repo. We did the EB in August which was perfect, school out, etc. 2 weeks is a long time.

dcl will have a premium price on the next panama repo. they had 2 panama repos in 08 and they both sold out in about a day. in 2011 they will have one panama repo expect a premium price. the prices were cheap i paid 3900 for a cat 11 for 2 people including there high insurance which i should of got somewhere else. this was for the aug repo the wb was around 400 dollars cheaper i believe.

They sold out but there was a lot of cancellations, I know 2 weeks before the west bound cruise cabins were available on an airline employee discount web site.

If at all possible and to get a premium price on a 2 week cruise they are going to have to schedule around a school holiday, either around Christmas or a major spring break week, or Easter as many families are not willing to take their kids out of school for 2 weeks, (and I am sure DCL wants 3 or 4 people in each cabin (ie families)

Can you imagine if the ship was to go Jan 1/11, they could have crazy rates for the Dream, crazy rates on Christmas Magic cruises and crazy rates on a WB Panama Canal cruise.

You know what, it's sad that the passengers over in California won't be able to experience Castaway Cay......ahhhhh......that island.....that beautiful, stunning island.

I wanna go back!

Well, I think you might need to prepare yourself for them being wrong for the first time. ;) I can not find a single ship building source that agrees. Besides that, Disney signed both the letter of intent AND the final contracts before Celebrity ordered EITHER of the two ships that haven't started construction (4th and 5th in Solstice Class). The letter of intent that Disney signed preserved their place in the build process. The current events at Meyer Werft also suggest the same. Celebrity Equinox is almost done and will be in salt water by the end of June. Celebrity Eclipse has already had her keel laid and construction is well under way for its June 2010 delivery. The Disney Dream steel cutting has begun, which means it is next! When they make room this fall, they will lay the keel of the Disney Dream.

2007/05/21 Celebrity Cruises signs contract for 4th Solstice class ship
2007/04/23 Disney signs contracts
2007/02/22 Disney signs letter of intent

By the way, both of our sources have the Equinox delivery date wrong - Equinox will be delivered in July.

Hey, I'm up for a friendly wager, 6 pack of soda. Coke, Pepsi? Sams American choice?

Woo Hoo, :cool1: West Coast is getting a ship! I know, I'm a bit late to the news, but I was so thrilled to see it's official now that I'm dancing around. :woohoo: I actually thought we would get the Magic, but I'm thrilled with the Wonder as well. Okay Andrew, I'm waiting on the next official news that you're getting the Magic in the UK! :dance3::banana:

4Campers, we may have to round up the Swanky Suite Swillers and crank up the action! :drinking1

This is so true! I am not that excited about it because I'd much rather go to CC and get the full experience. I would probably do a 3/4 day west coast cruise just to get my fix in between. Can't wait to hear more info on all this.

It depends on if they do 3/4-night cruises or 7-night. In 4 nights they could make 3 stops: San Diego, Catalina Island, and Ensenada, Mexico. (They have to make that foreign port stop.) The 3-night cruise would probably make one stop in Mexico, and that might be it - unless they buy an island somewhere. The 7-night would be the typical Mexican Riviera cruise, which DCL has done twice before.

I think they will start out with 3/4-night cruises with tie-ins to Disneyland packages.

Hey, leave it to you to let us all know the news!!

Now maybe we get to see you again!

BOO!

I hope so! Did you just get back from Mexico (again)? PM (or post on our old thread?) me some details comparing Voyager class & Radiance class ships?

Reports (rumors) from Cruise Shipping - Miami was that Disney would be doing the same 7 day Mexican Riviera cruises that they have done previously. So, Cabo, Maz, PV...

But, I would not be surprised at all to see 3/4/5 night land & sea packages.

I agree, the Mexican Rivera part of the WONDERS itinerary is the 7 night cruises as they have been before, not 3/4 nights.
