Hi there! My family will be on this cruise and we are so excited!! It will be our first Disney cruise. How can I sign my 5 and 2 year olds up for the fish extender group? Thanks!

ME!!! Not looking forward to the 8 hour drive from Arkansas but maybe my kids will be little angels all the way down there. :littleangel: Yeah right.

Howdy MurphyFamilyCaptain and welcome to the group
:welcome::welcome::welcome:

The FE is a per cabin sign up, so
I will add your cabin to group 2 FE.
I am going to need to send you the sign up information for the FE, but you do not have enough posts to receive and/or send private messages yet. The DIS board requires that you be at 10 posts before messaging is unlocked. This is not a difficult task. You can either post her with things like hello, we are down to only 4 1/2 months, I would like to join the cabin crawl (or any other question or comment you may have). You could also go to the test page (see posts 57 and 69), and make quick 1 letter posts.
As soon as you reach 10, I will send you the sign up.
I look forward to getting to know you.

I can completely empathize with you on the drive. Our trips to Disney World start and end with an 18 hour drive.
Several years back, we started what we call 100 mile gifts. The first year, we gave the boys small Disney / vacation related gifts every 100 miles. Most of the gifts came from the dollar store, and were intended to occupy them each for the next 100 miles. We learned during that trip, that we had not spread the gifts far enough apart. This was partially due to my husbands heavy foot, but also because some of the items took longer to assemble and distribute than we had anticipated. For example one of the gifts was a hat made out of glow sticks. It took more than the 100 miles to assemble everyones. We now do them every 150 miles, but still call them 100 mile gifts.
We have learned as the years past, to give items that encourage active play when we are close to a planned rest stop or gas stop. This way they can get out of the car and burn off some of the excitement energy. Another thing we have changed is that as we get closer, the gifts get a little larger. For example, we build up to our first gift inside Florida being something like a stuffed animal or something similar that we can decorate the hotel windowsill with, then a Disney movie for them to share (this gift is strategically placed - we are down to only a few hours of driving, and the movie occupies their attention, thus eliminating the are we there yets). The final gift will be something like a watch (from the dollar store ), or a trading pin.
Since adding this tradition to our trips, the boys actually look forward to the drive, and are much more pleasant during the drive. In fact, when we were able to fly last September , they were bummed, and said it felt like they were missing part of the vacation. As a surprise, we did include an altered version of the 100 mile gifts. in which major mile stones for the journey came with a gift.

At that age, activity packs worked well during day light hours. I recall seeing ones for Star Wars angry birds a while back at the dollar store. It had a picture book, some stickers, and some crayons. The 8 year old may enjoy one of those black felt pictures that you color in the white areas. I know that you can find disney character ones. Also another fun find that is good for all ages (even my hubby and I had fun using them ) is the velcro paddles with the velcro ball, and the helicopter / spinner launchers. We picked both up at the dollar store, and gave them as out side the car time gifts.
Are y'all going to be doing any of your driving at night.

Okay, for all you Disney addicts who are also huge Star Wars nerds :darth:, I have exciting news. I just received my latest installment of the Disney Insider which was mainly all Star Wars related, and comic con news. The first article was announcing today's release of the new Star Wars app.
Here is the link to the article. They have a link for the app in both the app store (for android ) and the apple store in the article .
The app is a mash up of several cool features. They have a weather app that links your local weather to the planet that is most similar to your climate. You also have the capability to search the weather in other locations (just like you would in any weather app ). They included a force trainer like the one Luke practices on while aboard the Millennium Falcon . They also have Star Wars news links, Star Wars sound effects, GIF's, Star Wars selfiie make overs, and a count down to The Force Awakens.

Simply put, it is COOL :chewy::ewok::yoda:

We are driving in on Thanksgiving as well :drive:. My hubby was worried that if we waited until Friday, that we may encounter some kind of hiccup.
We are staying at the Harbor House so we can see the ship pull in at the wee hours of the morning. I can't think of a better way to spend the sleepless, anxiety filled EARLY morning before boarding! :rolleyes2 :stitch::ccat::donald:

Hello! I just stumbled upon this forum while researching tips on cruising and was curious if it is too late to join in the group and the FE? I would love to learn some tips from all of this and get involved in the fun!

Welcome Baker Family
:welcome::welcome::welcome:

No, your not to late. I will add you to the roll call, and to the FE list. You will be the first in group 3, but don't worry, I am sure it will fill up.
I am going to send you the information needed for the FE in a PM.
As for questions, ask away. We have a few members that have a few Disney Cruises under their belt. And as for me, talking about anything Disney, is one of my favorite things.
On the previous page, post #293, there is a list of group activities we are planning. Take a look at it and let me know if there is anything you want to sign up for.
I look forward to getting to know you too.

Baker Family - I tried to send you a PM, but the system would not allow me to. You are over the 10 posts needed to send and receive messages. Could you please check out how your account is set up, and make sure that you have set it so that you can receive messages, and that you are receiving notifications when someone posts.
Thanks

~Tink ~

Lisa, I was finally able to send you a PM :flower:
I just wanted to check and make sure you received it.

I have a question about the dining. Are the tables per family stateroom, or are they like on other cruise ship where the tables will be for up to 12 people and you are sitting with other people.

Okay, I promise that I am not trying to make a "Do Not Forget" point by consistently forgetting Mondays Forget Me Nots. I would move them to Tuesdays, but then i would start forgetting to do it on Tuesday, and move it to Wednesdays, and so on. (Thinking as I'm typing) Maybe I should put a reminder in my phones calender. Only problem there, is I tend to ignore those about 50% to 60% of the time.

Anywho...This weeks forget me not is your Smart Phone, and your tablet (and there chargers). I know, you are on vacation, and you intended to take a break from the real world, and I am on board with that. Don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting you go on vacation to work. Quite the contrary. Disney has an app, called the Disney Cruise app (which I recommend you download before you leave home to assure that you have it). The app is free and full of great tools (tools that unfortunately can only use on board). While on board, through this app, you will be able to access Disney cruises intranet (not to be mistaken with the internet), which will unlock tools that will make life at sea (and port) easier. You will have access to deck plans (so you don't get lost), menus for that nights dinners (this is great for those of us who have members of their family who can never seem to make up their minds about what to eat), and you will be able to view the daily Navigator (you will also get this in print in your room every day, but who wants to keep track of a mini booklet when we already have so many other things to keep track of). The Navigator, for those of you who have never sailed with Disney before, is your guide to everything for that day. It tells you when and where you can find your next meal (be it early mid morning snack, or late second, second lunch), what each age group of the kiddos will be doing at any given time, what movies are playing and when, where to find the character that you just must have an autograph for, when yoga begins, where you need to be for the Dance Party, when the Galley tour starts, ......I could go on, but then this post would be four pages long like the Navigator. Plus a new feature that has recently just been added to the app is messaging. You will be able to send messages to your traveling companions (as long as they have the app on their device as well) through out the trip. This is a nice addition. Disney does offer the 2 wave phones in your room for keeping in touch, but they are not very user friendly, and they have a hefty price tag on them if you loose or damage them. Instead of fighting with those, you can just bring your device (covered in a water proof pouch or cover) and never loose touch.
Charging can be a challenge with several devices being used, and limited electrical outlets in your room. If you have one of the device chargers that you can plug several device into at once, I would recommend bringing that along. You are not allowed to use extension cords, or surge protectors, and I would not recommend leaving a device plugged in while out of your room (just as a security measure).
I am planning to get everyone in our family the water proof cell phone/ tablet cases as a hundred mile gift (gifts given during our drive to our destination...topic for another post). That way, they will not only be able to stay connected and know what is going on when and where, but they will be able to capture their entire trip on the camera on their device. That way, they can pull up pics of their vacation and have a Disney moment at any time with out having to download or print their pictures.
***A side note**** If you do bring your device, make sure you put it on airplane mode as soon as you board. If you forget, you could come home to a HUGE cell phone bill. I have talked with someone who forgot until about day 3, and since his phone was in roaming for all that time, he racked up a $700 bill for those 2 days.

I have a question about the dining. Are the tables per family stateroom, or are they like on other cruise ship where the tables will be for up to 12 people and you are sitting with other people.

Disney does dining different than I have seen on any of the other cruises that I have been on. You will be seated at a table that is assigned to your stateroom (there is a specific table in each dining room that you are assigned to). If you are traveling with a group that over flows into more than one cabin, you can request that your reservations be linked for dining (your travel agent should be able to help with this). When you link the cabins, you will then have one table assigned to the group instead of just one cabin.

Another tidbit about Disney dining. You will be assigned to start in one of the 3 dining rooms for the first night. The second night, you would then move to another one of the dining rooms. Then on night 3, you would go to the third dining room. Day 4 brings you back to the first dining room, and the beginning of the cycle. If you have a dining room that you would like to be in the most, you can choose to start in that dining room. If I continued through to day 7, you would see that you get to eat in the first dining room 3 times (that is also where you are assigned for breakfast on the day of disembarkation). Any requests for changing dining rooms can be done on the day we board. The Navigator will have a place and time to go and make adjustments to your dining, this includes Palo reservations as well (for those of you who want to do Palo, but can't seem to get reservations on line before we sail, this is where you will find openings that you can book). I can not guarantee, but this usually takes place in one of the lounges around 1 PM (I think they will stay there until it is time to prepare for the Muster Drill).

Oh, and one last thing. Which dining room you go to is not a guessing game (thank goodness), you will receive a dining ticket in you cabin on the first day. It will tell you where to start, and where to go for each of the following days. We bring a magnet to put this up on the wall, so it does not get lost in all of the clutter that builds up in the cabin.
