Disney Wonder Jan 23, 2011

Jessica-You are amazing! The Mickey Cake looks better to me (at least more edible) than the other 2. :worship: I used to love making cakes with my Mom when I was younger. I even remember a cut-out cake book. You would take regular cakes, cut them up and create things with them. We made some crazy stuff! But yours is great!!

Aw, thanks :flower3: I was so happy with it when I did it, but looking back at the pictures I think it looks more like an "off brand" Mickey than Mickey himself. But - it's recognizably him, so I was pleased. Honestly, the cake was Betty Crocker boxed mix. I had to make 6 cake rounds! I couldn't even begin to tell you how many cans of frosting it took! I just bought different piping tips and different color frosting. Then, I took a toothpick and hand-drew the lines of the face. After that I piped in the colors where they belonged and wala - Mickey! I recently started trying to paint and draw, and I was inspired to do the cake from that. I've only done a few things so-far, but I like what I've done! I would be practicing and doing more paintings/drawings if work situations weren't so bad, but practicing more means buying more supplies - so it's kind of slow going! ;)

About WOC, that's interesting - and exactly why I think WOC is going to be horrible. On top of having to spend $30 - $40 per person to have any chance at seeing the show, no matter what it's going to be standing only (no sitting)! That means that people like me who are only 5' tall aren't going to be able to see at all! I think Fantasmic at DL sucked because of the seating, but at least they make you sit, so even if you're short you can see something. I have a feeling WOC is going to be a huge disappointment by waiting all day and paying a bundle of money to get the food package, and then end up standing on my tippie toes for the smallest glimpse of what everyone else is seeing.

Sorry to be the negative-nilly, but I'm just keeping it real! :rotfl2:

Hey guys, just a head's up:

I know everyone probably has their FE already, but I'm creating a page for our little website with the info of the lady who made our FE. In case anyone (now or joining our group in the future) doesn't have one, I think she's great to work with and her products are BEAUTIFUL (to me, anyway). We should be receiving our FE next week and I will post pics of it when we get it. The page isn't live yet because I'm still waiting for some more pics of her products (and I need to make sure everything I said about her products/prices are correct). If no one buys from her that's fine, I just thought I would help her out and throw her name out there! :thumbsup2

P.S. She also makes custom pillowcases for character signatures and custom tote bags which can have your name embroidered and an applique Mickey or Minnie!

I will let everyone know when the page is live :wizard:

Kirsten - That is the beauty of Disney cruises. They are not as in-your-face Disney like the parks are. They are a lot more subtle and elegant but have the top-notch entertainment and family fun you would expect from Disney. Their stage shows, restaurant theming, and kids club programming are hands-down the best on the seas.

Jessica - I second Sue. You did an amazing job on the Mickey cake! I'll be turning 40 in November of 2013 so you've got plenty of time to come up with something! :rolleyes1

LOL, you've clearly put more thought into Tinkerbell's story than I have. I'll never be able to look at her the same at a character meet thanks to you. I've always just moped that my beloved Silvermist is never there.

The next time Emma drags me into Pixie Hollow, I'll have to corner Tink and ask her what was up with her trying to snuff Wendy. I guess she's just the Green Gansta!

No stoning from us :), but I will admit that I was shocked to read that! :scared1: How could someone not totally love Disney?!? :confused3 Whether you're a Disney fanatic or not though, you'll love the cruise. I know many people who don't have kids and/or don't even like Disney, but they won't sail with anyone else. I will also admit that it's a little strange to be on a Disney message board if you don't like Disney, kind of ironic! :rotfl2: Either way though, you're more than welcome here! We Disney fanatics are nice people! :flower3:
:nono: I don't DISlike them, I just am not into them. I have absolutely nothing against Disney. I just never got into them (I was scarred by 101 Dalmations when I was three ;) )

I think my kids will love the characters . And it really does sound as if a Disney cruise is perfect for families! I honestly can't wait!

And re: Tinkerbell. All the female characters in the original PP were evil except for Wendy . It was a really crazy, weird movie. I can't figure out why Tink has become their logo girl. (And don't get me started on the "I know why redmen drink" song.) Sorry for the brief rant. Peter Pan is the only one of their movies that I really didn't like. I made the mistake of buying it for my kids w/o having seen it. Then I watched it with them and was shocked. It soon "disappeared" mysteriously from our house :lmao:

STEVE/SUE: Thanks for the comments on the video! We were actually in Oahu in 2007. He loves to watch that video over and over and over again. We went where EVERYONE told us to go: Hanauma Bay.
HanaumaBay.jpg

Boats aren't allowed here, so all snorkeling was done off shore. Everyone recommended we be there at the crack of dawn and it totally paid off. It was amazing! :thumbsup2 This was the very first time we have snorkeled, so we have never been on a boat for a snorkeling adventure, but that sounds like fun! We definitely want to go to Maui the next time we go to Hawaii. As far as Mexico snorkeling, we still don't know. Maybe there is a place like Hanauma Bay? :confused3 We need to do more research on that to make sure we get the best spot. We can let you know what we come up with.

CATHY: We would LOVE to go on an excursion with Mazatlan Frank! Apparently everyone on the boards love him. Anyone know how much his excursion costs? I think he has a website. I will investigate this further as well. My husband just informed me that he would love to go fishing as well.

JESSICA: I'm VERY happy you passed your math class. I know it wasn't the grade you wanted, which sucks, but you don't have to take it all over again and you now focus on responding to my e-mails! :rotfl2: By the way, your cakes are AMAZING!!! And I agree with you about Tinkerbell, but I don't hate her...I'll never look at her the same way again though, that's for sure.

SUE: I did make a reservation for Ariel's Grotto on June 20th and am super excited! :cool1: I know it is going to be crazy, and it will probably be just as bad as Jessica said it would be, but I'm going with an open mind and waiting to see the madness unfold. popcorn:: I mean, have you guys NOT checked out this video?! http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/calendar/specialEvents/detail?name=WorldOfColor&CMP=KNC-DLRLocWorldColorFY10&s_kwcid=TC|12603|world%20of%20color||S||4672190783
It looks SO GREAT! :wizard: I know I'm going to cry...I teared up watching the freakin' video! :rotfl:

Forgot to mention before: My favorite character is Mickey, my favorite Disney movie is Aladdin, and my favorite Disney/Pixar movie is...I don't have one because I LOVE THEM ALL! There is a place in my heart for all the Disney films. Although I have to say, I have not seen Pete's Dragon! EVER! :scared1: I KNOW!!! So that was promptly put on the top of my Netflix list.

Have a great weekend everyone!!! :hippie:

Here is Frank's website http://www.mazatlan-frank.com/ Dave and I will be going fishing with him while in Mazatlan, I'm hoping to see whales while on the fishing trip. On Frank's website it's only 300 for the whole boat. It holds 6 people, so it could be a cheap trip if we can get 6 people to go. I'm going to email Frank this weekend and ask for more infomation.:yay:

OK -

First, I want to apologize to everyone for the Tinkerbell thing; I didn't mean to "ruin her" for everyone. :littleangel: Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against villains or movies where people try to murder other people (I like plenty of those movies). What makes me angry is that Disney does not recognize who she is/what she did! Instead, she somehow became the poster girl for everything Disney with no acknowledgment of what she's done. That is what's annoying to me! Steve - good luck with asking Tinkerbell! I'm not sure she will appreciate that :rotfl2: It would be funny to see how the person responds though!

Second, Mazatlan Frank looks interesting; I had never heard of that before. Ryan and I will not be joining you though (:upsidedow), no offense, we just really have no interest in going fishing.

Third, and most important!
So, Ryan and I decided to go to Disneyland yesterday. While we were there we thought, "hey, maybe they will be testing World of Color tonight." While we were in WDW once we got to Ride the Toy Story ride before opening because they were testing it, so we knew this is something that Disney likes to do. As the day went on we began to realize they were going to test WOC last night! As it got later and later we began to notice cast members roping off the WOC standing area and they even put cast members in front of the area to block people out. Unfortunately, we came to find out it was for a "private party". We asked a cast member if WOC was going to be tested and they said they didn't know, but you should hang around at the time of park closing because if they did it would be close to closing time. We then asked one of the guards watching the roped off area and they said, "No, WOC will not be tested tonight. This is simply for a private party." After that we began to question it, but we knew something was up so we decided to hang around the area anyway. Around 9:00 the area became full with people showing tickets to be let into the roped of area. (Mind you, the park CLOSED at 9:00, so why would people just then be entering the area?) Now, Ryan and I have been to an exclusive party at Disney and there is food, dessert tables, drinks, usually some private character meet-and-greets....we are no idiots - these people had no food, no drinks, no snacks, and no meet-and-greets. Suddenly at 9:00 they were all just sitting inside the WOC area staring at the water, AND, the speakers were raised and all of the WOC devices were under the water (none of these things were true earlier in the day). With those two facts we KNEW they would be showing WOC. Yes! We would get to see it! We also knew that WOC cannot be shown unless all of the rides were off, lights were off, etc....so we assumed we should just be "stragglers" out of the park. After about 30 minutes most everyone was out of the park and we thought it would happen....then, suddenly, a cast member approaches asking us if we were a party of the party. We said no (because we knew we would have to show a ticket if we said yes), so we said "no, but we want to see the show so we're waiting." The cast member said, "World of color will not be shown tonight, this is a private party and the park is closing so we need to ask you to leave. A security guard will come to escort you out shortly." I said, "I know world of color is being "tested" or previewed tonight, I can see the speakers and I know what's going on." He said, "No ma'am, the show is not happening at all tonight. It's possible the speakers are up because they're just testing the equipment. I need to ask that you please leave". Knowing he was lying to us I became furious and left. What do you know, at 10:00 over the skies of DCA - exactly 23 minutes of colored lights beamed into the sky. Furious, we left Disneyland instead of staying until closing to ride some more rides.

Now - I don't know if I've expressed well enough how FURIOUS I am/was, but I was HEATED! Don't get me wrong, I know it was a private viewing and not likely we would be able to see it; and I know it wouldn't be a private viewing if they let us stay. I am not upset that we couldn't sneak our way in. What I AM upset with is blatantly being lied to:mad:! I would not be mad if he would have said to me, "Yes, WOC is being previewed but it's a private party so we need to ask you to leave." THAT would have been OK! Treating me like I'm a frickin fool, saying "oh, the speakers are probably just out to test the systems" and lying to me angers me like you wouldn't believe! :headache: OMG I'm SO FURIOUS! Disney might get a very strongly worded letter from me about how to treat their guests! Especially guests who pay $750 (now $800) a year for frickin annual passes! Don't treat me like I'm an ididot! Say, "yes, it's being shown but we need to ask you to leave" - DON'T LIE TO ME!

OK, I will be done with my rant. I just wanted to share that. I am also considering boycotting WOC now. I don't know, I haven't made up my mind yet. I will however say that the "standing room" might not be as bad as I thought with regards to short/tall people. Looking at the area filled last night I realized that the 3 walkways in which you stand are tiered (much like a stadium-seating movie theater). Therefore, it's not like 7,000 people are all standing at the same level. However, seeing the area filled last night also confirmed how few people will actually be able to see the show at a time.

On another side note, I think we got to witness how they will remove everyone except fastpass holders/VIP meal seating people from the area. At the corner where the pier starts in one direction and the WOC standing area goes in another there were blockade-type things. A person stands at them only letting people through with tickets. The same is true for the WOC area itself. The steps are roped off with a castmember at each entry point checking tickets to let people in. Before the show security walks through making everyone else leave the area (not just in the blockaded area, but off the pier and everything). We were also wondering if maybe the "tickets" they had were the fast pass things (because it would make sense for Disney to test them). If so, I can tell you they don't look like normal fast passes (which would make sense because the WOC ticket would need to be obvious and stand out from the rest of the fast passes to quickly let people go in and out.) If they weren't the fast passes, then just ignore me! :rotfl2:

On a happier note, here's a pic from yesterday! I'll post a couple more :)
Ryan_Jessica_omnibus_small.jpg

Ryan and I tried to take some pics of the WOC viewing area yesterday to help everyone picture it. I don't know that these photos will actually help, but I tried! :thumbsup2

This shows you the length of the viewing area. I don't know if they will be allowing people to stand on the normal walkway above the viewing area as well...only time will tell. Seeing how small the viewing area actually is, I have to imagine they will have people on the sidewalk.
WOC_viewing_area_small.png

From the middle of the viewing area you can see there are 3 levels, a row on each side (6 rows total).

This is an example of the length and width of each row.

I hope this helps! :thumbsup2

:cheer2: Oh my goodness! :cheer2: I found some cool info from the Disney Mexican Riviera cruises in 2005! Look what they did! (Hopefully they'll do these things on our sailing)!! I know it's for kids, but I want to make a Piñata!

Minnie’s Fiesta Grande Minnie is getting ready to say “todos a bailar” with a brand new sail-away celebration as the Disney Magic departs the port of Mazatlan. Guests join Minnie and her pals for Minnie’s Fiesta Grande, a fun filled party celebrating the magic, music and culture of Mexico.

Churro For Sure-Oh Children learn about one of the most famous Mexican desserts – the Churro! They can experiment with different toppings and enjoy their own creations!

Piñata Party Children discover the history of this traditional Mexican pastime creating brightly-colored paper piñatas and stuffing them with an assortment of goodies. A special surprise awaits as children get to break their piñatas at the end of the program.

You'll also never guess what I found! :yay: I found a FULL SHORE EXCURSION LIST FROM DISNEY'S 2005 MEXICAN RIVIERA SAILINGS! WoopWoop! :woohoo: I can tell you right now, if they really do have these same things we will probably DEFINITELY be doing the excursion where you do a sand sculpture contest! WooHoo! (Yanira, Ryan and I have been talking about it and we will probably join you for snorkeling, as long as there's nothing else in that port we feel like we have to do!)

As a side note, I know I could have just given the link to this info, but I was thinking that if somehow the link ever became broken or removed then the info would be gone forever...so I thought it best to copy and paste it so we always have it! (Let me know if you think this would be better on our little website, I can update this post to remove it from here and place it on our site instead).

Here it is:

Good evening sue :)
No - just bored! :rotfl2:

I think I agree about the shore excursion info, it makes a very long post and will most likely get lost as our board gets longer. I have placed this info on our little site :thumbsup2. The link is in the left-hand side-bar, or you can just click here:

I will remove the post from here but I will wait a couple of days (that way no one gets confused as to what we're talking about. Everyone can have a chance to see it, and then I will remove it. (It will remain on our little website the entire time until our cruise!

I found the info here: http://micechat.com/forums/disney-cruise-lines/61287-disney-magic-mexico-excursions.html

I hope that helps!

Have a good night snuggling with your honey  That sounds like a good idea!

JESSICA!!! Thanks for all the WOC information/pictures, and 2005 excursion list!!! You are super awesome! :thumbsup2 By the way, I'm sorry the security people lied to your face about the WOC test run, but you'll get over it (if you haven't already). :rotfl:

We're happy that both of you are considering joining us on the snorkeling! We are definitely looking at the PV excursion since I've read that PV is the best place for snorkeling, so hopefully they'll be offering it.

CATHY: Sergio and I decided not to do the fishing excursion with Mazatlan Frank, only because we have NEVER fished before AND because we would like to take the city tour. Sorry. :sad2: Hopefully someone else can go in on the excursion with you and your husband. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Sergio wanted me to inform you  that his favorite Disney character is BRUCE, and his favorite Disney movie is CARS. He  cars, so when that movie came out, we saw it at the El Capitan Theater, and he was so impressed that he vowed to be a Disney fan for life. :woohoo:

Time to go to bed...back to work tomorrow. :surfweb:

Wow, I feel like I am getting so far behind. Let's see...

Sue - You know, I've never seen Pete's Dragon or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang either. I've seen nearly all of the animated classics but haven't seen any of the live action classics except for Swiss Family Robinson and parts of Mary Poppins. I've got some Netflixin' to do! :3dglasses

We will be seeing Toy Story 3 up here. We love the first two movies and Toy Story Mania is one of Emma's favorite rides so we will definitely see the movie. I hate going to the movies though and always have a bad experience as I'm a magnet for rude movie-goers. I either get the kid kicking my seat, the loud-eater, the belcher (two movies ago), and/or the commentator (today). Today we took Emma to see Shrek 3. I know, I know, I had no business taking her to see anything non-Disney as long as there are Disney flicks I haven't seen but we got desperate as grandma is visiting this weekend and we had to get out to do something before we all drove each other crazy. We thought it was a cute movie but Emma didn't like it at all. She thought it was too scary...this from the 4yo who rides Dinosaur, Tower of Terror, Splash Mountain, Matterhorn, and Space Mountain. I think she was just off a little since she is still a little sick. She loved the How to Train Your Dragon movie and I thought it should have been scarier for her.

I'd love to see a movie at the El Capitan someday. We've been to the Soda Fountain next door for ice cream a couple of times. I don't know why but I always get the peppermint ice cream there and I won't get it anywhere else. I just love it there so much! :santa:

Yanira - Thanks for the info about Hanauma Bay. I wonder how far it is from the new DVC resort. I heard the snorkeling isn't as good from the beach where Disney is building so I know we will be seeking out better spots.

That's awesome that Sergio's favorite character is Bruce. I assume it's Bruce from Finding Nemo. He is one of my favorites too as I love sharks and half of my family is from Australia so I automatically like any character with the accent. Finding Nemo has so much humor that a kid wouldn't get which is one of the reasons I dig the movie so much. I forget how much I like it until Emma watches it and then I laugh hysterically when a funny scene comes on. :rotfl:

Jessica - No worries about Tink. I don't have a problem with her really as I think she has become less of a character from a movie and more of a marketing icon. I mean, is Grumpy really the best character from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? He has more merchandise out there than any other character in the film, including Snow White herself. It's hard to find a men's shirt at the parks without Grumpy on it and it's nothing more than marketing.

I do love chatting with characters though when they aren't rushing you through like an assembly line. I don't try to put them on the spot or embarrass them but I just like saying odd things to see their expressions and maybe try to get them a little out of character. I had a great time with the Mad Hatter at the musical chairs game on Main Street a couple of years ago.

They must be well-trained and have a lot of experience as I have gotten some funny responses. I remember visiting Ariel's Grotto at DL just before leaving for WDW. At WDW in Akershus, I told Emma right in front of Ariel that, wasn't it strange that we just saw Ariel the week before in California? Ariel quickly responded by telling us the swim over here did her good because she was so much prettier than when we saw her last week.

That's a major bummer that you didn't get to see WOC. At least you may now have some insight about how the FP system will work and how they will get people out of the area before it starts. Thanks for the pictures. I'm still having a little trouble picturing the whole process. I think I will wait for the trip reports to start coming out. I really do want to see it in September.

I wouldn't want to be lied to either but I wonder if they assume most guests would have left quietly if lied to but might have otherwise fussed or tried to find a way to sneak around and stay if they were told WOC was showing.

Thanks for posting the previous Riviera excursions. If anyone was wondering, it was the Chileno Bay Snorkeling Adventure we did in 2005. Maybe it would be better at a different time of year (can January be better than May?) but we wouldn't do it again. It was just too cold and murky. The catamaran ride was nice and we got to see some sights but it wasn't worth it.

Finally, I uploaded some pictures from Emma's first race last weekend. She was so cute out there. I've never seen moisture-wicking clothes that small...or that pink before! :cloud9:

The excursion information can also be found right on this very site.
Go to the Sticky at the top of The Disney Cruise Line Forum
Click on DIS DCL FAQ New Alphabetical Listing of DCL Information.
Lots of great information listed
Go down to Excursion Reviews for each Port and find the Mexican Riviera Cruises.
This list it from the last Mexican Riviera Cruises.
I've been looking at this list for months now. :rotfl:
Enjoy

Wow, I feel like I am getting so far behind. Let's see...

I know the feeling! :rotfl2:

Yanira - Thanks for the info about Hanauma Bay. I wonder how far it is from the new DVC resort. I heard the snorkeling isn't as good from the beach where Disney is building so I know we will be seeking out better spots.

NO PROBLEM! Our hotel was about a mile or 2 east of where they were building the DVC resort, and Hanauma Bay was about 10 miles east from our hotel. So it won't be too far from the resort. It will be worth the trip, I guarantee you! :cool2:

Yes, Bruce from Finding Nemo. :) The adult humor is one of the reasons why we love that movie. Sergio's 2 main interests are fish and cars, so that's why he loves those 2 movies.

I do love chatting with characters though when they aren't rushing you through like an assembly line. I don't try to put them on the spot or embarrass them but I just like saying odd things to see their expressions and maybe try to get them a little out of character. That is awesome!

Thanks for sharing those pictures of your daughter, by the way. She is so cute!!! We are all proud of her accomplishment in getting that medal. ;)

With regards to Hawaii - keep dreaming! :guilty: I'm sad to be the one to tell you this, but legally a cruise ship (other than Norwegian) cannot do a Hawaii only sailing (originating in Hawaii and ending in Hawaii). The only way cruise lines (other than Norwegian) can sail Hawaii is to start from a port on the mainland or Mexico and go to the Hawaiian Islands from there(They could also start in Hawaii and on our coast). I also believe that if they start on the mainland (San Diego or seattle for example), they still have to end in a foreign port (Mexico, Tahiti, where-ever). That's why very few cruise line's don't do Hawaii, and when they do they are really long sailings. When doing those sailings they are usually an average of 14 day cruises (because of the time it takes to get from our coast to the Hawaiian islands). Due to the length not very many cruise line's partake in that destination. (An example itinerary for a non-Norwegian cruise line sailing would be Holland America's).

Sorry to burst that bubble. :( At least you have an ex-travel agent to help you out with these things! :wizard:

:scared1: http://thedailydisney.com/blog/2010/06/exec-says-disney-might-cruise-to-asia-and-hawaii/ :scared1:

I'm officially going to start dreaming harder so that the possibility of a cruise to Hawaii could turn into reality. :wizard:

We did it! We bought tickets for Mickey's Halloween Party. Now I have to see how many DVC points we might have to borrow to stay @ the Grand CA! :cool1: If anyone can work it out, we will be going on October 15th. With both our work schedules and Alec's school, that was the safest bet. The only bummer is that the only Friday they are giving a price break is Oct 1st. All the other days are Tuesday's. That isn't how they have done it before at all. But then it will be shutting down DL & I should be understanding.

I have been reading like crazy to find out whatever I can about WOC and what to expect. I guess it will all be speculation and those wonderful pictures :cutie: until we get there. I am such a planner, can you tell?

Emma is sooooo adorable! So proud of her just wanting to run a race! Keep up the great work. I'm sure it is because she has great parents. :wizard:

Thank you for the article...it just seemed like such a great fit for DCL to go to Hawaii. Stay @ Disneyland, hop on and take a Disney Cruise, spend a week @ Disney Resort in Hawaii & hop back to sail back home, with maybe a quick stay back @ Disneyland. :cloud9: Maybe we should start saving now. :scared1:

OK, time to chase Alec into bed.
Later,
Sue

Good Evening Everyone :flower3:

There has been some drama in my world yesterday and today so I have a MASSIVE headache :headache: and I'm exhausted :faint:! (It's a long story...pet related). Anyway, I think all of the crying  has exacerbated my headache so I have to lay down now before my head explodes! But I wanted to post some exciting news first!

First - there are some great things for me to respond to tomorrow! Be sure I will respond to all of your posts after work tomorrow evening! :thumbsup2

The good news is - we got our fish extender in the mail today! :woohoo: It makes it feel like our cruise is that much closer! Anyway, we wanted to post a picture for everyone...but first, I should explain.

The fish extender is not complete. We custom requested the phrase at the top "cruisin' with character" because we are going to attach some patches of some of our favorite characters! Get it? :rotfl: That's why the top part looks so big, we had her put extra space so we could sew on our patches (hopefully we'll be able to get about 4 patches on it!)

Anywho - here it is!
