Disney Withdrawal Survival Guide: An Oct 2013 PTR - Soundtrack Included- NEW 08/27

Soundtrack:Starting your day off right!

Tip of the day: Start on the right foot with some Kona coffee!

I did not like coffee and toast,
I did not like them in a boat,
I did not eat them while I float,
I did not like coffee and toast,
I did not like them, final vote!

but then! THEN!
I visited Kona Café,

Everything changed

WOW Did I like coffee and toast!

And I would eat them in a boat. And I would eat them with a goat…and I will eat them in the rain. And in the dark. And on a train. And in a car. And in a tree. They are so good, so good, you see!

So I will eat them in a box. And I will eat them with a fox. And I will eat them in a house. And I will eat them with a mouse. And I will eat them here and there. Say! I will eat them ANYWHERE!

I do so like coffee and toast Thank you! Thank you, Kona café!

OK so enough with the cute rhymes... what does this have to do with surviving Disney withdrawals...

Well you see, on our honeymoon trip last year we brought back a bag of 100% kona coffee beans. So every Saturday we could have a nice breakfast with kona coffee; however, all good things must come to an end, we ran out of beans. We went on our way, feeling a bit empty but still surviving until..

We discovered Maui coffee company. Jess's cousin had gone to Hawaii and brought us back a bag of 100% beans, the bag advertised their website where YOU CAN ORDER 100% KONA BEANS!! Anytime!

So we did!

They arrived on Friday

We couldn't even wait for breakfast. I ran to our local grocery store for some Disney related snacks and Jess got started on brewing.

Anywho, that's it for now. Be back soon to talk about our first full Disney day!

Loved the Dr. Seuss rhyming! Well done! I love Kona Café for breakfast even if it doesn't involve coffee.

Congratulations on your anniversary! You were both so beautiful. :lovestruc Thanks for sharing some of your lovely photos.

Yum! Kona Cafe is definitely on my bucket list. That tonga toast looks so good it's ridiculous!! I thought my boyfriend was going to say something about the coffee at WDW but he thinks it OK, but I wonder what he'll think of Kona Cafe's coffee...

We are having our first breakfast at Kona on our November trip and the Kona French press is one thing that Joe is really looking forward to...I'm thinking I might sneak a cup as maybe even I will like this coffee. The only coffee I ever liked was on our honeymoon in Costa Rica...it tasted amazing, but I've never really had any that has compared, although I rarely try.

Looking forward to hearing about your first day plans!

Oh! I love Dr.. Seuss! Also Kona! Mom tonga toast. DH had the coffee but I did t try it. Next time ill have to take a sip, but I'm really not a coffee drinker.

eek! I've been a bad follower (10 lashes with a wet spaghetti noodle?) and real life has gotten in the way.

I'm all caught up now - and yummmm to Kona coffee :)

and the Dalmation Day post was genius. Don't know why I didn't manage to make that theme connection on my own earlier - adorable and perfect!

I stumbled upon your PTR and was hooked from the start! I suffer from the same Disney Withdrawal as others here!

I have read through and am all caught up!! Your trip sounds exciting. I am an October traveler also. Oct. 6-11 staying at Bay Lake Tower! :cool1:

BTW...I absolutely LOVE that your PTR has a soundtrack!!! Music is such a huge part of my life...and yet...this thought never crossed my mind! I hope you won't mind if I borrow/steal your idea sometime in the future....it's just BRILLIANT!!

You and your wife are simply stunning...especially in those wedding day pics. Congrats and Happy Anniversary to you ladies!

I can't wait to read more about your trip plans!

So this is not a happy post...cause Jess and I are not happy tonight. I wanted to check when Jess's classes started in the fall so I loaded up her school calender to look it up. Unfortunately, I noticed another detail...Her fall reading week is from Oct 28 to Nov 1st...(I swear I checked a millions times before). If you remember, our trip is scheduled for Oct 19-25. A whole week early :sad2:
I don't know how this happened but let's just say we have no real clue what to do at this point. She would have to miss a whole week of university in her final year of study or we might need to cancel the whole trip.

I guess what I'm saying is that I know parent's take their kids out of school to go to WDW, Can I pull my wife out of university for a week? Do you think her professors would accept a note from me or do I need to get her mom to sign it?

I know there are worst things in the world, I see them everyday at work but I am pretty bummed about this tonight. So I would appreciate some cheering up! Advice, thoughts or just something to make us smile would be awesome.

Awww OJ definitely the note from mom would be my advice!! That stinks but can you re-book for the dates that work? I think it's a fine time to break out the blender and make one of your fabulous pina colavas!! :)

So I'm not going to comment on your other posts but just this one. My thoughts when a parent pulls a child from school. Time to decompress as a family is important (especially since the stereotypical 9-5 job isn't as common any more... I say this a it's 12:30 and my DH is still at work) , Can they handle the week away, only the people involved know the right answer.... So I think all those same things apply to you guys, just grown ups in higher education!

Good luck... If you decide to cancer is there a week you can rebook? Maybe in December?

Oh dear. That is a pickle. I sincerely hope you can find a solution that works for you both. A week off in University is no easy thing, but like Sarah said before me, only those involved know if they can handle it. There is the upside of having reading week to work on catching up when you get back! Are you able to re-book for one week later?

If you believe it will work out, it will. It always does somehow!

What are your wife's thoughts on missing a week's worth of school? If she's okay with it, I say go for it. Maybe there's a chance she could do a bit of schoolwork on the trip (maybe on the flight/airport, while lounging in the room/by the pool).

Oh dear, I just realized that I just showed my nerdy side. Sorry.

Everything will work out in the end. pixiedust:

such a bummer! But I would hold out hope that it could still turn out OK.

My mom has been working on her degree as well and still had classwork and homework during their December trip, but they didn't want to cancel either.

What she did was block out time every day that was dedicated to studying and homework. She brought her laptop, her homework, etc and forced herself to do what needed to be done each day. Is it as much fun as having free reign? Nope. But it allowed them to still go to Disney, enjoy the trip AND keep her up-to-date on her studies.

Various life things happen all the time. Sarah will need to be open with her instructors that she will not be in class that week (not necessarily crowing about YAY DISNEY, but just that she'll be out) If there are any tests or quizzes, she'll need to ask to take them early.

If she's comfortable with that, then great. But ultimately, if she feels uneasy about being out from school that week, then it's probably best to postphone. Which is sad.

Oh no. :sad2:

So I will confess... I missed a week of school during my last year of college in order to go to WDW. Granted my major was accounting/business management so I was able to sell it to my professors that I would be able to observe exceptional customer service. I had a ton of make-up work and wrote a little ten page paper about my customer service experience and the company's business philosophies, but it was worth it. I still found the trip to be very enjoyable. :goodvibes

DH will be missing a week of school while we are in WDW. What he does is talks to his professor about it after the very first class and really tries to work ahead so that nothing is lost by taking the week off. That being said, only she knows her study habits and whether or not a week away will put her too far behind, although having a reading week afterwards should help make up for any lost time, work ahead on assignments due, etc.

Good luck, I hope you can find a way to make it work!

Oh man! What a freakin bummer :(

I know when I was in school I probably could have managed missing a week sometimes if my professors didn't mind letting me know what we'd be covering. But everyone's different! If she doesn't feel comfortable I'd definitely postpone. It's no fun being stressed about what you're missing at home when you're spending money on a vacation!

I agree that the first thing you should do would to see if you can change your dates for a week she is on break. If that doesn't work or it too much money to change flights, then see if your wife can talk to her professors and try to get work ahead or work online while on your trip. While it does suck to have to work on vacation, you'll have to weigh your options with changing your dates. Good luck and we're all routing for you too to have a happy ending!!:thumbsup2

I'm new to the Dis :wave2: and new to this post but I started reading it today and couldnt stop! I would leave it up to your wife to decide. Only she knows if she can miss time off of school or not. But she could take time out of each day or every other day to study and keep up to date with her work! I think it is do-able. Especially so soon in the semester? :scratchin I am going in October as well with my girlfriend and two other friends 15-22. :lovestruc Love reading your posts and about your trip, wedding and life!

Hey guys!

Thanks so much for all the advice and positive thoughts. We've talked about it and made a bit of research. We can't change our travel dates because of the non-refundable DVD rental we did but the main reason would also be that I set up my schedule around the assumption that Jess's vacation was Oct 20-25th so it is now too late to change my schedule around. That being said, we've concluded that missing a week of school wouldn't be a big deal for Jess, she says she only has 2 classes + her thesis for that semester. So she feels comfortable with keeping our travel dates. :thumbsup2 Very happy about that. I think the main shock was when we returned to the school calendar and realized "oh no! We booked the wrong dates!" But after hearing from you guys and some of our friends, we realize that people do take time off from school/work for vacations and that had this of been planned, it wouldn't of been a big deal...Just a bit of a shock that's all. :scared1:

Thanks for everything! :worship: Jess was particularly happy to hear all the encouragements, she doesn't always comment but she always reads and loves hearing from everyone. :hippie:

:dance3:WE ARE STILL GOING TO WDW!!! :dance3:
