Disney with a Southern Twist- Tomber 11.11.11 UPDATE: BLOGGED & LIFE!! 1/24!

Hey sw33t! I was poking around the TRs and came across yours... I had to say hello! I'm another rowdy Steelers fan (HERE WE GO!), I live 2 minutes from Coastal, am also OBSESSED with teal, I'm making ribbon poms (slowly), I LOVE Litchfield Plantation, and looked for my gown at the Little White Dress too! Everything you've done so far is beautiful, and I'll def be following along! popcorn::

HAHA no way!!! :goodvibes

HERE WE GO STEELERS HERE WE GO!! :cheer2:

Did you go to Coastal as well? Or just live near Campus? LOL.. teal SHOULD be everyone's obsession. I read somewhere- it looks good on everyone!

I usually make the ribbon topiary when I am watching TV or just chilling out- I have made 4 out of 17 so far, and I have only had the supplies for a week- so I think I will be ok, as long as I don't slack off on them! :rolleyes1

I am so in love with Litchfield! We went and saw it again last week and I took a bunch of pictures, and so happy we got it! :)

Did you end up finding a gown yet? I know that MB doesn't really have much of a good selection. I loved the Little White Dress- they were extremely helpful and very nice, gave me that "Say Yes to the Dress" NY feel! :)

Do you have a PJ? I saw from your signature you were engaged at Cinderella's Castle... sooo romantic! :lovestruc

I'm from PA originally, but moved down here to Carolina Forest and found myself a PA-born, Steelers-and-Disney-lovin' man of my own. I'm gonna start a journal tonight, I've stalked the boards for long enough!

Those ribbon poms are gonna be the death of me, :worship: to you for doing so many!

I loved LWD, but the dress I fell in love with there was *way* out of the price range. I got one that I loved just as much at Amanda's Collection in Conway.

Enough about me, keep on updating chica!

HERE WE GO!!!!

OH YEAH, STEEL CITY!!!

:cheer2: Sixburgh is climbing the the stairway to seven!!! :cheer2:

Well while you guys are watching the superbowl, I will be watching the puppy bowl :lmao: :dancer:

So I saw Sharaya last year in a downtown bar in Charleston, and I absolutely fell in love with her songs! She is a very talented young lady! Super down to earth and extremely sweet! I had been following her US 50 states tour, and now her start-up career in Nashville.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/SharayaMikael/sharaya-mikaels-rush-ep-5-new-songs

She is trying to raise money to make a new EP, and I just thought I would share her with everyone!

The reason I post this as well, is she has an option to donate $500 and she will come to your house and perform a concert for you and your friends- I would love to actually have her play at my wedding- which would be fabulous! Plus, I know my money would be going to help her career, and not just necessarily in her pocket for pure profit. I already have a DJ, but I was wondering if I did pledge (which right now.. I have no money.. haha) where I could have her play and when? I was thinking during dinner, but then she really wouldn't get as much attention as I would want her to! Maybe in between the DJ for an hour?

Why don't you get her to play at the beginning of the reception, before the dj? Like for the bride/groom dance and all of the special little dances. I've always liked those "special" songs live anyways :)

I bet it would sound nice during cocktail hour, before you get there, that way everyone will get the "starstruckness" out of their system because they will have seen her for an hour already and now they are ready for the two of you!

That's a great idea Kristilyn!!! I was thinking the same thing. What a treat for your guests!!

They also sell as Little Golden Books ( I used to LOVE these as a kid) of Butterfly Kisses, that I will probably buy for my dad as a gift, and write some type of message/letter in there for him!

books

Oh man! If you don't mind, I am totally stealing this idea! My dad is very macho. He never shows emotion. Except one time I caught him tearing up while listening to this song. So this is going to be our father/daughter dance. I didn't know they made a book. How perfect!

I was also going to suggest cocktail hour as a good time, although that might not be ideal for you because if you're taking a pictures and whatnot you might miss her performing! Another thought was toward the end of the night, maybe during dessert/cake, or just after a decent period of dance music to give guests a break.

Very good idea to have during cake/dessert as well :)

LOVING this idea!!! My fiance and I have joked about having favorite acts at our wedding, how cool is it that you have an opportunity to do just that?!? I agree with Kristi, the beginning would be perfect and set your wedding apart.
:rolleyes1

THANKS Girls!! :) Now I just have to come up with $500 :rolleyes1 I will have to see what I can do, but at least I have good ideas of where to put her if I do get her!

Haha no problem! :) I am thinking of maybe choosing a different song- only because Butterfly Kisses is so long- and if I want to squeeze a dance in with my Mom too- I don't want us to be dancing for 45 minutes! :rolleyes1 But I still will probably get him the book- because it still says so much for our relationship!

So first to start off this post!! :)

My wonderful DF got me an early V-Day gift (even though we weren't supposed to be doing gifts!!) Which he said he used a gift card- so he really didn't cheat because he didn't "buy" me anything....this arrived in the mail today!

fairytaleweddings.jpg

 I was waiting to buy it because I know it will be on permanent play in my car and computer- and I didn't want it to be severely scratched and unplayable before November... :lmao:(as I am listening to it now... btw..) So I am going to make a back-up copy and also download this sucker on my itunes!

FAVORS

So I think we are decided on the favors! We were toying with the idea of personalized wine glasses- but I think we are going to go the shot glass route! I found a good website that we can do personalized colored shot-glasses for about .86 cents a piece. I love these because they have colored bottoms, and colored text.

Not sure if they will let me put Mickey on it (copyright stuff?) but I am going to try- if not might settle for hearts or something. I did see one as a sample using the SuperMan logo, so I think I might be ok. DF liked the "Game Over" one naturally... :headache:

I found some pretty tutorials of wrapping the individual shot glasses in tulle or ribbon, and putting some sort of candy like colored m&m's in them as well.

Going along with our drinking theme here...:lmao: For the groomsman I think we are going to do personalized Beer Steins!

CAKE VS. CUPCAKES ROUND 1

So from the beginning I have been set in doing cupcakes for the reception and just having two smaller tiers for DF and me (one for the cake-topper and cake cutting, and one to keep for our 1 year anniversary)

But going to a few bridal shows and doing online research- these darn cupcake stands are the life of me. NO one we have spoken to has a solution to this dilemma. #1 They don't have a way to display the cupcakes, they just make the cupcakes. #2 They don't have a cupcake stand, but wait! you can buy one to display 150+ cupcakes for $300....and after wards keep it as a souvenir. Really???

So then I began toying with the idea for a cake- but also ran into a brick wall with every vendor I talked to who said they won't be able to put anything Disney related on the cake- no mickeys, no castles, no characters, NOTHING. Because they don't have the rights to the Disney Licensing. So I have a cake topper with Mickey and Minnie- but I wanted the cake to be like... WHOA DISNEY WEDDING CAKE....

So then I started thinking about one of two options:

#1 Look into bigger chains for cakes (ie: Wal-Mart, Food Lion, Publix, etc.) stores that DO have the rights to Disney stuff, and see if they could possibly make something wedding related in regards to a cake, even little touches such as little Mickey Heads? (OR are they only allowed to do certain aspects of pre-approved Disney cakes?)

disney-wedding-cakes.jpg

#2 Go with the cupcakes, and see if they can make normal cupcakes and then add "ears" as a touch?

Similar to this:

Hartsandmickeyearscupcakes.jpg

If not... I could use my mickey hole punch and make card stock picks with toothpicks and have the bakery stick them in each one? So that way they aren't technically using Disney stuff- I am providing it for them?

But then that still leaves me with the dilemma of making our own cupcake stands- which might not be too difficult- since my vision is have them spread out, which might work out better as well if we have different flavored cupcakes! I was thinking of using hat boxes, or those pretty storage boxes and just finding them in our colors and flipping them over?

Wowzers girl! Lots of stuff going on.. :surfweb:

First off, love the shot glass idea! I think they're soo cool with the colors on the bottom of them! You should be able to do Mickey or you'd be surprised how many places actually already have Mickey in their clipart galleries. :smickey: One site I know we're probably using is discountmugs.com and they have a Mickey/Minnie in a heart graphic you could put on them if that helps you? You can do a mix of Mickeys & Game overs? That way you both get your way. haha. Plus you said you guys play video games a lot right?? :woohoo:

Onnnnnto the next part.. SO jealous of your cd! I WANT it. ASAP. I wanna buy it on itunes actually haha. And as far as your cake goes.. I think the cupcake ideas with the little ears is soooo friggn adorable and fits your personality a lot better. If I wasn't going so super elegant with our wedding I'd so jack your idea and be using it at my wedding too! :rolleyes1 I'd see if you could stick to that and then do like a 2 tier cake on top so that you guys can cut it and what not. That way no copyright worries with the cupcakes if your just placing little wafer circles in their that just HAAAAPPEN to look like Mickey's ears? :thumbsup2

I'll keep an eye out for cupcake stands for you! No worries mama!

OMG I am sorry you are having so many problems with this  Let's start from the beginning. You can find cupcake cake trees here for around $30 http://www.save-on-crafts.com/we2.html
You can put the top two tiers you want on the top level. Or you can just by a cupcake tree and display the actual cakes on the side or in front or you can put the two cakes in the middle and surround with the cupcakes like this
Miriam_BISCOCHO-xl-46382561.jpg

This is what some of the cake stands look like on that website I URL sent you for Save On Crafts
bevfabriccrafts_2145_682501220

As far as your disney cake problem you could theme your cake around Disney and do a disney cake topper to pull it all together like this
1540978_f520.jpg
or you can buy edible fondant with Disney elements yourself and have them put them on or someone you know could do it as well. This etsy seller makes edible Disney fondant for cakes http://www.etsy.com/listing/67688008/edible-fondant-minnie-mouse-complete-set?ref=sr_gallery_3&ga_search_query=disney%2Bcake%2Btopper&ga_search_type=handmade
il_570xN.215470365.jpg

You could have her custom make some for you???
This seller does Disney stuff as well
http://www.etsy.com/listing/67658419/edible-fondant-toy-story-toppers-12?ref=sr_gallery_7&ga_search_query=disney%2Bcake%2Btopper&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=1
I don't know if any of this helps, but hopefully something does :)

On another note, your DF is super sweet for getting you the CD, I have a Disney playlist on Pandora radio and I listen to it all day at work :rolleyes1
I like your ideas for the favors the ones that are colorful on the bottom are really cute, and your groomsmen will love those mugs :thumbsup2 I hope everything gets resolved with the cake/ cupcake problem. OH and I love that idea for the cupcakes with the ears super cute :):):)

So I think Vicki found the perfect solution for you - that website looks like it has a bunch of different cupcake stands that hold tons of cupcakes! And at reasonable prices too. I hope you do go with the cupcake idea, I love how cute they look and I don't think it would be against copyright to just stick two circles into the cupcake :)

And I love the shot glasses and beer steins. Where are you ordering them from? I think the steins would be an awesome gift for our groomsmen too.

Yeah....what Vicki said...haha!

I'd love to give all of these creative ideas. But I'm just not that creative...haha

But the shot glass idea is cute :) And that was super sweet of your df. Like Vicki, I have the Disney playlist on pandora. Can't get enough :goodvibes

I didn't even know that DFTW CD existed! I am running to amazon to buy it now.

I really like the idea of displaying the cupcakes on the hat boxes! I'm always seeing cute hat boxes at Ross. Whatever you do, I'm sure they will all look awesome!
