no changes at the moment. we are driving down from VA on 8/22 hoping to check in late that night. only worried about any remnants of bad weather as we go down i-95. Of course wishing that the hurricane dissolves and makes no damages. however, if it is not to dissolve that it stays a car 1 remains on its current timeline and it is not delayed so that all is clear by Friday / Saturday.

We might be making changes in a way that different from everyone else. If we lose our power, I'll definitely be on the phone with MS to try and get a reservation. Charley knocked our power out for 2 weeks. I'm not ever doing that again! Fay, you are not wanted here. I don't want to live in a FEMA disaster area ever again!:scared1:

I wish you good weather, ilovecoasters! I know this is a discussion board devoted mostly to vacations, but, it bothers me a bit that people worry about their vacation being impacted by a hurricane. I have many friends and family in Florida and I worry for their safety and for their homes. I would gladly trade a shortened vacation for their safety.

You are very sweet. Thank you. We are as ready as you can be with our batteries, water, gas, and canned goods. This is one of the big sacrifices you make living in this area. I just watched the local weather. They are predicting 80 mph winds through central Florida. We're in the dreaded northeast quadrant which increases our chance of high winds and tornadoes. I think what I'm more immediately concerned about is tomorrow is our first day of school here (DH and I are both teachers). Chances are we will not have school Tuesday and maybe Wednesday. Nothing like having your classroom all done and pretty just to turn around and have to cover everything and pack up loose items. I'm sure the kids will be more anxious than usual tomorrow. I teach in a very poor area and many do not live in secure homes. Will keep everyone posted.

We discovered this phenomenon when we were at BWV during Wilma. People from outside Florida had canceled and Florida DVC folks picked up the openings to move in from elsewhere in Florida and the Keys. We ran into a LOT of them. What a good idea! Even though the power was out close to Disney, ours never flickered. As the storm went over, if we didn't look outside we could hardly tell anything was happening. Those are sturdy buildings!

And I'll give BIG kudos to Disney and especially the CMs - they were GREAT, even though many of them had storm problems at their own homes. I can't say enough good things about how helpful and hard working they are before, during and after a storm. We were well updated and taken care of during the whole time we were "quarantined" in the resort.

I wish you luck with Fay and I hope it does little damage - or better, that it misses the whole state. Florida has had more than its share of storms. Our son and daughter-in-law now both work for Disney in Orlando, and we're really hoping the storm ignores the whole area.

Latest track as of this morning puts it as a category one storm and it hitting South Florida coast sometime late Monday or early Tuesday. I wonder how many are going to be on property when the storm hits?

we wont be there for about 5 weeks ... but heres wish good weather and safety to everyone in the area!!!!!:grouphug:

Any of you feeling the effects of the storm as of yet?

We have some clouds - no wind at all, no rain. I'm in Ft Myers, on the SW coast. They're saying now landfall as cat 1 either this county or the one to the south around 8am Tuesday. I'll be at work through the night - can't risk not being able to get back in. But, as hurricanes go this one is a itty bitty almost-nothing.

The heavy rains will probably be the worst part. This doesn't have the winds that blow houses apart.

Just bumping this to see how you are doing, Sue, down there in Ft Myers.

It's rained on and off and wind has been moderate. They are predicting severe weather to hit during the night. There has been one tornado so far this afternoon in Brevard. Over 50 homes were damaged. Schools have been closed for tomorrow as well. That means our trip to SSR the week of Thanksgiving will need to be cancelled. The days leading up to Turkey day are our make up days.:sad2:

Well, we changed our plans. We were supposed to arrive TOMORROW, but we left home yesterday, drove straight through and got here a day early to avoid driving in the rain. It worked!

hi everyone..... im sending my very best wishes to everyone living in the area and on vacation..... hope everyone is safe and sound and enjoying there time there........ we dont arrive for about 5 weeks... when the weather is like this does it usually blow over can we expect it to be bad to 'normal' by the time we arrive or does it tend to linger?? i know its proberly hard to say just curious as not the type of weather we are used to over here.....

Well, we are supposed to fly in Thursday afternoon. I just looked at the curent projected path and it has changed since this morning, putting it directly over Orlando Thursday! Not sure what to do, I think I may have the airlines make that decision for me ;)

Anybody in the parks currently? Is WDW closed? Has Disney made any formal announcements concerning the storm?

hoping all the Floridians (wether resident or visitor) are safe and secure. I have my BFF in Tampa and praying for her too.

Here is hoping that all Floridians and visitors to that wonderful state stay safe and dry.

We'll be at the BCV in 12 days. It will probably dry out by then.

Amen.. hope all are well, and safe.

Anyone give us a report from Orlando?
