Disney wii not honor onboard discount

OK perhaps I'm out of step with all the nuances of this apparently :)
I made the ressie onboard. I transferred it to All Seasons on the ship.
I then booked the transitional. All Seasons booked it and then transferred my ressie over for that cruise. I know that even with this scenario there was questions as to whether this would be honoured by DCL.

Cheers,
Grumbo

What I was told by Merrie at DU is that in order to get the 10% discount with the TA, the ressie had to be transferred to them prior to May 5 and they needed to use the ressie number to get the price with a discount.

DU is arguing that because DCL didn't release prices before 5/5, people did not feel comfortable transferring ressies without knowing the price. I'm definitely one of those.

Right now I have one ressie in a room I don't want with a discount of 10% and one in a room I do want without any discount. I hope it all gets straightened out so I can get my $500 deposit on the second unneeded ressie back ;)

I am STILL waiting! Everytime I hear something, it is just "a couple more days"! Not only am I losing money, I am stressing so much about this I am losing sleep and going through antacids like crazy! I just hope that Disney does the right thing as they promised and it is resolved soon. I will go on the cruise regardless, perhaps that's what they were counting on when they decided NOT to honor what was promised. At this point since it has dragged on so long, the first words that come to mind are deception and greed. I only hope that some pixie dust comes my way as well as all the other's that are involved, and we can feel the Magic again!

twhipple . . . My situation is exactly the same -- one ressie w/ DCL directly w/ the 10% discount and one ressie with Dreams without the discount.

I want to keep the Dreams ressie (cat 6 w/ main dining) and I want the 10% discount.

Hopefully, DCL will allow the 10% on the ressies booked by Dreams.

Robin, at this point I'm reminded of a rule back from an old MUD that I used to play (MUD is an online multiplayer text game)

It was called the ice cream rule. Simply stated.

"This is just a game. If at any point you start treating this with any seriousness, its time to step back, have a bowl of ice cream and relax. Its not worth stressing out over, really."

I think the same thing applies here.

Yes you have $250 pp tied up in the reservation, yes you want to get the best price available, and yes they are working on it. You won't loose any money unless you change you mind after next March. I know its stressful, I know that things have been *flying* around and that games were changed, but let DU or Allseasons or whoever do their fighting for you, sit back and enjoy a bowl of ice cream (or in my case, a suitable no sugar added, made with splenda bowl of something that resembles ice cream but doesn't quite taste like it used to).

You shouldn't need a vacation from planning your vacation.

I have an interesting idea, that may not work, but I wanted to voice it anyway (wow, look at all that punctuation!! :p ).

Some on here have two rooms:

1 they don't want book with the 10% off and $200 credit and,

1 they want but at a regular price.

Add to this the fact that there appears to be quite a lot of people that still want to go, but don't want to pay the exhorbent prices now advertised.

The solution:

Is it possible to add a fellow DISer to your party (like you would an aunt or neighbor)?? If so, have the DISer family (of the same sized book into the initial room you don't want) "buy" that room from you for the full price you are paying (ie have them pay you to pay DCL for it). Then you basically get the $200 credit and 10%, but in cash instead of ship credit. The DISer family gets the $200 OBC added to their room, so they are not out those funds.

Ok, was that understandable? :teeth:

Although I don't want to go, I will use myself as an example.

I can't afford to go at today's price, so I email twhipple and ask to use their unwanted room (the one with the 10% and OBC). I pay them directly the full cost of the room (without 10% off) and an extra $200 cash for the $200 OBC. Thus, I have a room onboard and $200 OBC for...say...$3000. Twhipple then adds my family's name to the party as occupying the other room (like they would aunt Betty and grandpa), pays for the room with the funds I gave them, and takes the extra from the 10% and applies it to their room instead (since my room actually cost $2700 to DCL, not $3000, a 10% difference).

Then, I would be onboard for a resonable price and Twhipple will get the 10% off originally asked for.

Is this possible and allowed? I am thinking DU can handle addign the extra family, and the money exchange does not need to be known by anyone. :smooth: :boat:

I believe the primary name on the booking cannot change, or a new ressie at current prices applies.

I am walking to the freezer for my Fat Free "Skinny Cow" Fudge Bar as per your rule. No fat, but plenty of sugar and cocoa for the ruminating DCL customer.

I think this merits a little bit of stressing. In our case it translates into a $1400 mistake and possibly $2000 in deposits out there. I only felt I'd lost money b/c the agent hadn't gotten in early enough on the reservations and we may not be able to use our discount on this cruise. If I'd handled it myself, I may, and may is emphasized here, have gotten a better price and kept my discount. Can't have a "do over" here, so time to forget that one. Probably the biggest stressor (sp) is that there isn't anything we can do to get an answer at this point. Lack of control is always a major cause of stress. I sent a note to DCL and while it may not do much, it made me feel better.

In all fairness, some were expressly promised the availibility of the discount for the repo cruise by DCL and only rebooked onboard intending to transfer the discount. In our case, I was hoping for the discount, but didn't really know if they'd honor it or not. Now, they are saying they would have but only if the reservation were modified, not transferred. Makes perfect sense to me....not! Now, I'm just bothered they weren't up front about all this from the start so everyone could have been on their toes.

We will go on the 5/14 either way and will probably see how far into the future DCL will let us modify our dates on the reservation carrying the discount. I think the name of the game is always rebook onboard and don't transfer your ressie to a TA until you know for sure what date you want the discounted cruise to end up on.

Now, back to that ice cream.

Just don't have too MUCH of the ice cream. At the very least there is some magical quality about ice cream. No one is EVER grumpy after they eat it.

You are right, I feel better all ready after just one fudge bar. :teeth:

Juli, we're in the same situation, except for I WAS told on the Disney Cruise that I would get the discount and that it would be going out of California and could be used for that cruise (after I transferred it). I was also encouraged to transfer the reservation to the agent I used for that cruise. If I hadn't I could have called, like you said, and probably gotten a better price and gotten the discount and $200. For me, all these things have cost about $1000, plus the fact that they now have $2000 deposit money for the other cruise and this cruise. My TA is working diligently on this and does feel terrible. I don't blame her--DCL shouldn't change the rules once the game has begun.

Jeff,

Sorry, no ice cream or any goodies in the house for that matter! (maybe that is what my problem is:teeth: ) But Juli is right! I now have deposits on two staterooms for two sailings. The random booking that was made onboard has the discounts which were promised I could have on the summer booking. I was assured over and over by DCL. That is why I made that booking with every intention of transferring it. It has now been nearly a week, and would seem no one is getting any answers. It is very frustrating. Not the end of the world, your right, but I feel cheated and Juli phrased it right "lack of control" It is very frustrating to hear "a couple more days" every couple of days.

Robin

Greysword- The simple answer is yes, it could be done that way. Theres a lot of trust involved. Your basically doing what many travel agents do. When I rebooked onboard last Jan. I booked 2 rooms. One for my family of 4 and a second for an extra, in case some relatives wanted to go. I put my name as the lead on room #1 and my wife as lead on room #2. My room has me and 2 kids (room for a 4th) wife's room has her plus 1 additional adult (room for 2 more). I could change any of the people except the lead person in each room with no extra charge. If I wanted to add a 4th to my room or a 3rd and 4th to her room, I would pay the going rate at the time of the new additions. My desire was to save on deposits and it would work against me if I wanted to help someone on a cruise like the repo cruise...Mark

Well after awaiting word about our 10% discount and the onboard credit Disney did NOT come across. I'm very disappointed in their integrity (or should I say lack of integrity).
DCL is lucky though they have agencies that will "cover" for their foul ups though. All Seasons will be honouring the promise made to me by Donna at DCL.
Think this a lesson well learnt. Deal with a reputable TA and they will fight for you and do the "right" thing. I don't blame Donna onboard the Magic. I'm sure she was told exactly what she told us but it was DCL management that did this.
So thanks to the agencies that did the "right thing" and in my case that was All Seasons.

Cheers,
Grumbo

I was told by my agent at Dreams that DCL would not honor the transfer of on board reservation to our West bound repo cruise. But DREAMS would honor the commitment and give us both the 10% discount and the $200 on board credit. DREAMS has really come through for me once again. I can't imagine how much this is costing Pete and DREAMS, but they do know what customer service is and the customer loyalty that it brings about.

My hats off to Pete and the entire DREAMS team. Michael Eisner could learn a lot from you guys....and gals. :teeth:
