Disney Transport - MOD and Flex explained

Ah, but that's a new style 4800 bus which I thought you didn't like :jester:

Good catch. Unfortunetly, it's the only pictures of them driving that I have... lol :bounce:

Gosh, now I know I'm not normal! I've been looking at the bus pictures and it brings back fond memories! I don't care how slow the things are, I can't wait to be on one of them! :D

Hi Tyler. Two things here for you.....
1. I think that maybe a whole bunch of us need to get together and ride in from Riverside when you're in town!!! Let us know.
2. Is there any rhyme or reason to the placement of resort bus stops at the parks? Is there a way to pick a resort based on how far the walk to the return bus is at the park? It seemed to me that POR was always waaaayyyy out at the end of all the lines. Am I making myself clear or does this really sound convoluted??

Thanks again, but I still think that there should be a pamphlet on how to get from hotel to hotel for the unindoctrinated...;)

How do they know that a handicapped person can't use a certain type of bus? Like I can't use the ramped bus. I'm sick of all the hassles I get because of that especially since I am on a fixed schedule due to the interpreters I need. Also what is the scoop in buses after special events? I'm going to the Spectacular of Pins and MVMCP this trip.

Unfortunetly, we are not psychic, and cannot determine on our own if you are unable to board a specific style of bus. We need your help on that. All you have to do is let us know. When at your resort, before you leave your room, give WDW-RIDE a call. If you cannot give us a call, stop by the front desk, and have them let us know. Communication is the key. If we know you're going to be waiting at such a time, we'll know to make sure to send a lift equipped bus for that run. There are no hassles... Same with the theme parks... Just let anyone know what you require, and they'll be able to get it for you. All we ask is that you inform us...

Busses run for special events just as if the parks were open as normal. No differences.

They do have one... and although I don't agree with it, I know why they did it. The guide says to go to DTD and transfer there. The reason they said that is because it's the easiest to explain.

IN REALITY...

7:00am-8:00am... Character Breakfast busses run every 15 mins, and will take you directly to the resort.

From 8:00am on, your best bet is to go to the closest theme park (to either start or end point), and switch there. However, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Do NOT go to Epcot for Swan, Dolphin, Yacht, Beach, or Boardwalk... go to the Studios. The reason being that with Epcot, you have to walk through the back of the park.

Transportation TO the theme parks cease when the theme park closes. So, if DAK closes at 5:00, and it's 6:30... you can't use DAK as a transfer point for AK Lodge.

However, if the MK closes at 8:00... and it's 8:30, and you're at the Contemporary trying to get back to the All-Stars... you can walk over to the MK, and catch the All-Star bus from there. Transportation FROM the park will run one hour after it closes. (Technically, we run till the park clears... but after an hour, that could happen at any moment)

Anyhoo, as you can see... it's not that easy to explain... so that's why the official guide says to use DTD. When it doubt, ask a Bus Driver... they'll be able to give you the best route.

I love riding the T... especially the Green Line... :)

As for Resort to Resort... just like the T, sometimes ya gotta transfer. If you want to get from Braintree to Fenway... gotta take the Red line to Park St, and then switch to the Green line... No fault of the system, that's just how the routes are set up. *shrug*

OK....now I'm MAJORLY impressed. The man knows how to get to Fenway from Braintree !!!

Yeah Tyler !!!!

I wish you had posted the directions to Fenway back in May... I got on the WRONG green line train and ended up at Northeastern--didn't realize I was 2 blocks over from Fenway.

Thanks, see you soon!!

Tyler - thank you very much for this information. I have a new fond appreciation for all of you!! I will never complain about the busses again - you let me see the light.

My only question to you is - as a driver why don't you like the new style 4800 busses?

My DH and I LOVE them - they are so much more helpful when you are carrying a stroller on the bus. They have a place to put the stroller if you are one of the first to board. Also the door is wider and lower to the ground and the aisles are wider so you are not hitting everyone you pass with the stroller. We think WDW transportation should have all these kind of busses. We actually got excited when this bus pulled up at our stop!!

Thanks again.

Actually... my favorite busses to drive are 4805-4814... they're '94 RTS busses, with series 50 engines. I love them because the engines purr... lol...

As for why I don't like the low-floor bus... Don't get me wrong... they have some excellent things about them... the wide doors, wide aisles, no step entry, and the extra large destination sign (that people still doesnt see)...

However... unfortunetly, they have some major design flaws, combined with poor build quality. They break down a lot, and getting parts on warranty takes forever. I could go on for pages about the problems those busses have... but I'll spare you the technobabble...

Thankfully, we're only leasing these busses.

Someone asked me about Flex/MOD, so I directed them to this thread (and am giving it a Bump so that the newbees can find it!!!!!!)

BTW Tyler, if you are still around the boards, what bus are you driving now?

The information in the thread is a bit dated... but not by much. Caribbean Beach is now open, and they're run by Studios. FQ is closed, but Riverside is open, and they're run by Epcot. Coronado Springs has gone back to Flex.

As for what bus I'm driving... not even I know that. All I know is what Zone I'm working out of. For example, today, I was Zone 6. I drove 4794 and 4707, and did a 2 Coronado -> AK/BB runs, 2 All-Star -> AK runs, an All-Star Figure 8 (AK -> ASR -> BB -> ASR -> AK), and one All-Star -> MK -> CR/Poly -> AK/BB run. (Not in that order)

Thanks, But your explanation of how the system works, is it still valid?

:bounce:

BTW, Thanks again for all of the info.

Last time DW and I went to WDW we tried to ask about you, and got a blank stare.

For the most part, yes. Although, we use computer based dispatching now.

LOL... Although I am well known throughout the department, there are still some that only know me by face. But, that's to be expected with 930 drivers. :)

I would be so excited if my driver had a Tyler name tag. I would wonder if its our TYLER. I would have to ask then my luck some guy would wonder if I had fallen off the deep end because it wasn't you. Is there a way to know without asking? Also is there somewhere to get updated pictures of the buses Disney currently uses?

Thanks for all your help Tyler.

I think this thread should be a sticky but I am prejudice
