Disney Transport - MOD and Flex explained

As far as I know, I am the only Tyler. There is one Ty, however. As for the nametag... sadly, my current nametag says "TLYER"... close enough, eh? LOL

If you go to the pictures section of The DIS, there are some pictures posted my myself, and some other members of this forum of various transportation around the World. :)

Great Pictures!!! My oldest is ready to walk to Disney ;) . I hope you'll be able to get your name "fixed"... but it doesn't matter what they call you as long as they call, eh? LOL

Well, wouldn't you know it....we had the driver named Ty. My dh got all excited..."Is it him, is it him?" Had to tell him that sadly, it was not our own Tyler. But Ty was very nice. As were all the drivers we encountered last week.

LOL... I bet he gets that a lot...

Just got back from 2 weeks in WDW and didn't get you as a driver once Tyler - I checked every driver we had (they must have thought me mad staring at their names tags LOL).

The buses for our first 11 days at the POR were great. We never waited more then 15 minutes both to and from the parks. Even after night events there were always plenty of busses to handle the extra folks.

Our last 3 days at AKL were completely different. We found we were waiting longer for busses to the parks. After Fantasmic one night there didn't seemd to be any AKL busses for ages - all the other resort stops were empty before our bus came.
Onther evening we were heading for DTD from AKL. We waited 40 minutes for a bus - and got bitten to hell in the process by mosquitos! As we waited we counted 4 MGM buses, 2 Epcot buses and 2 MK buses - everytime the other buses arrived folks were telling the drivers to radio back to get a DTD bus to come!

Transportation TO the theme parks cease when the theme park closes. So, if DAK closes at 5:00, and it's 6:30... you can't use DAK as a transfer point for AK Lodge.

Old message, fairly recent thread . . . .

Tyler, if the busses are bringing guests back from MK to Coronado Springs, for example, would a guest *not* be permitted to board at CSR if the bus were going to head back to MK for another busload? (For instance, maybe their car is at the TTC, or they're going to the Luau at the Poly.)

Same would apply to other resorts and parks, of course. I can understand both sides on this one. The goal is to get as many guests as possible *away* from the parks after closing.

Also - has there ever been talk of adding a fleet of smaller passenger vans to the fleet of full-size busses? During the middle of the day, especially in the off-season, the busses frequently have no more than four or five guests in them. Seems like it might save money and wear & tear to use smaller vehicles when possible.

Thanks for any insight here.

The majority of the time, the drivers will run with "SPECIAL" on their destination sign. During park exits at the Magic Kingdom, we're not allowed to bring back people. However, we are allowed to bring them to a MK resort, for example. Bottom line, if a guest needs to get back to a parking lot or something, we'll get them there.

It really would be to a disadvantage to do that. It's actually just cheaper and easier to run a standardized fleet of 40 foot heavy duty buses. The mini-buses are light duty, short life spans, and can't handle any surprise heavy loads that have a tendancy to randomly pop up.

Thanks Tyler. I was wondering what those buses with 'Special' on them were. We were at the Polynesian waiting for either MGM buses or Typoon Lagoon buses in the early a.m. and saw several buses marked 'Special'. After a pretty long wait, we were all beginning to wonder who the 'special' people were and where were they going!!!

Those SPECIAL buses are different. Those are "Upstream" folks who are going from a theme park back to a resort, or breakfast people. Special is just our way of saying "Drop Off Only" or "Not In Service"

Wow! My head is sure spinning!!

Thanks!

I guess I'll need at least a 10 month vacation to figure out all the transportation in's & outs! ;)

Just a couple of Notes or Updates as of April 2004:

The Zone 5 area which is the Downtown Disney Bus Hub is now responsible for Transportation to and from the Pop Century Resort during MOD (till 11 am).

This Fall, Disney Transportation will introduce its Newest Transport Bus with about 20 or so New Buses are now on order from this Bus Manufacture (link is enclosed) as well as a picture with this message.

Thanks for the update ztbz. Do you work for Disney transportation by any chance?

Yes, I do, for a long time now, but I don't post too often as I try to stay under the radar of managment

Thanks for repling then. Having official info is a good thing from this vacationers point of view anyway.

IN REALITY...

7:00am-8:00am... Character Breakfast busses run every 15 mins, and will take you directly to the resort.

From 8:00am on, your best bet is to go to the closest theme park (to either start or end point), and switch there. However, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Tyler, if you are still around, can you help me figure this out? (If he's not, will someone else knowledgeable jump in please?)

We have double breakfast PS's at MK in July due to miscommunication on who was going to call and get the PS. We will be staying at BC, and one ressie is at 8:25 am and the other is at 8:55 am.

Before we cancel one, I'm curious what time we would need to leave BC to catch a PS breakfast bus for the 8:25 time and what time we would need to catch a regular bus if we took the 8:55 time. Would we really get any more sleep if we keep the 8:55 time, or would we have to get up earlier anyway because the later buses would be more crowded or take more time to get to MK?

Thanks!

I'd be out at the bus stop at 7:45, and 8:00, respectivly.

Hey Tyler, How will Saratoga Springs reflect the Flex and the MOD????

I thought that maybe you'd tell me that those PS Breakfast buses would be faster, and that taking the later (and more crowded with regular park guests) bus rides would be longer. Thanks for your input, Tyler. Hope we see you in July!
