Can someone tell me what the tourist appeal is to buidling in Texas?

Land, land, and more land.... oh, and friendly people like myself! That's all I could think of... oh, wait... heat and humidity... gotta love that heat and humidity...

Planogirl: there is a schlitterbahn in Galveston, and there is at least one other water park (near spring), but I agree, they need something else down there.

I drove by where Astroworld was, it was very sad, everything was gone and it was all flat, and a bunch of dirt. I wish I'd have taken a picture :/

Schiltterbahn in Galveston is a joke... just like the one in South Padre... and Splashtown in Spring is getting pretty old... they need more rides and it would be nice if it were a little cleaner. It is definitley time for something new over here.

OK. Land, heat, humity. What about tourists. Cali and Florida had a built in tourist industry. Do people flock to Texas? I from the NE so nobody goes there from my neck of the Woods, but I don;t know about the Midwest travel habits.

I'm from the Chicago area, and in answer to your question: "Do people flock to Texas?"--Never again in the summer. We were in San Antonio/Corpus Christi in July a few years back--most godawful heat I've ever experienced. Worse than WDW in July or August. No question. My DBIL who lives in San Antonio said Texas summers are like our winters--no one ever sees their neighbors outside.
We were just in San Antonio over Spring Break and it was absolutely gorgeous.
If they do put a Disney park in Texas, it better be all indoors! Or there's no way we'll visit during the summer.

Do you know everyone in the NE ? I think not . I`ve spoken with people from the NYC area visiting the metroplex on multiple occasions. There sure are a lot of tourists where I live. That added to the illegal immigrants here=not so pleasant .

We have the same weather here that they have in Florida only much hotter with fewer high humidity days . Do I think they will ever build a Disney park here? Definately not in the next 20 years.

Tink's Tormentor correctly pointed out that Iger has denied that new parks are on the way in the US. You aren't that naive, are you? This plan was underway before Iger took the helm. It would hurt Disney to announce its plan before it had all its land because the prices would go up. Disney didn't warn anyone it was going to build a park in Orlando. I guess Mr. Iger will have to laugh and admit he fibbed a little, but only because he had to. I don't think he'll lose any credibility or be labeled as a liar.

It does get hot in Texas. But the humidity in Florida is torture. North Texas does not have the humidity of Orlando, and it doesn't have hurricanes, either. Sometimes it is pleasant. It is very accessible by air, the land is cheap, wages are fairly low, the air is better than Anaheim's, and there are a lot of people within driving distance. So there is some rationale for locating a park there.

While I highly doubt there will be a new park in Texas, I can say this: you really never know. Did you know there could have been a Disney park in Berlin, MA, about 10 or 11 years ago?

There's a Halloween theme park in MA called Spooky World that currently operates at Foxboro Stadium, but used to be on a farm in the town of Berlin, which is where it was when I used to work there. The third year I worked there, which is I believe the fourth or fifth year it was in operation, we went to dress rehersal the night before the park opened and there were about 15 CM's standing with the owner in casual clothes that you could tell cost a few hundred bucks a person. It was announced that the CM's would be touring the park and riding the hayrides with us and talking with the employees over the next week. Employees who had been there since day one and moved up the ranks quickly filled us in . . . Disney was thinking of buying the park.

Well, they hung out for about two days and wrinkled their noses and looked appalled and flat out shocked at the operation and left early, obviously not making a bid or anything. But honestly you never really know what Disney could do next, they're always saying one thing and doing another.

DixieIrishRose, The report you heard is no mere rumor. It is true. The park will be well north of Frisco. Disney has bought thousands of acres. They will build hotels, a theme park, a Disney studio, a water park, and more. They will have an airport, too.

sapiens & irishdixierose & brittanymariexo too... are any of ya'll in commercial real estate? just how did ya'll each stumble across such information. i am very interested. a disney park north of frisco would be a great thing for our metroplex. and sapiens... have you seen the empty ranches with your own eyes or word of mouth and if you know were it is going to be... why are you not buying property there? this is exciting news!!!

So there is some rationale for locating a park there.

Disney built a theme park in the middle of the second largest population mass in the United States, between two of the busiest airports in the country, right next the second most travelled highway in the republic, and less than a hundred yards from the second biggest tourist attraction in North America...

...and it's been a money burning, company destroying flop for five straight years now.

Do you really think there's a "rationale" for building another park in the middle of Flyover Nowhere, Texas?

I haven't been there. But I understand there is no way to miss the emptied homes. I wouldn't have the slightest idea of how to invest in a place as far away as Texas. It sounds like a profitable idea, though.

D/FW Area
Orange County, TX (near Houston)
West of Austin (near me)

I highly doubt this (partially because I've been to a website that claimed to have heard from Disney from this -- and they said NO!).

You're forgetting two other big rumored cities. Katy and Plantersville.

Disney has had to dissemble a little bit, or the land prices would have gone way up. But they are now in the homestretch on this project. When they have met their land goals, they will proudly announce what they are planning to do without apologizing for the disinformation. This is the real deal, and they are only months away.

I like how specific you are but answer the above question and that will really help us understand your ability to obtain this. I am not doubting i just would like a little more information. I think it is a great rumor but how much more can you tell us!
