Disney To Open Theme Park In Texas

Strange nickname. :confused3

You're right of course. A huge population and a lot of people with money to burn would never attract anyone. I doubt that it'll happen but never say never.

Disney has had to dissemble a little bit, or the land prices would have gone way up. But they are now in the homestretch on this project. When they have met their land goals, they will proudly announce what they are planning to do without apologizing for the disinformation. This is the real deal, and they are only months away.
The thing is, if you know this, why doesn't everyone else in the commercial real estate world know this as well? They can't see the abandoned ranch homes? In FL, folks came to know that something was up, and there was a lot of speculation about who it was. Anything like that happening in TX?

I'm a realtor and the only thing I've heard are the rumors about Plantersville, and those aren't from anyone in the industry. Two years ago, it was rumors about Katy - again, from nobody in the industry.

Trust me, when I hear them, I don't start planning my next trip to Disney Texas. For years and years - I'm talking since I was little (a lot of years, okay?), there have been rumors about Orange, Texas. Nothing has ever happened.

The only way for something to go unseen, was if it wasn't in the tax records, which is highly unlikely.

You're forgetting two other big rumored cities. Katy and Plantersville.

Didn't even know that; thanks!

The main problem with the D/FW area is, well, have you been to D/FW? It is a huge area with some of the largest population density in the world. No cheap land to build a themepark megaplex on; they can barely fit Six Flags Arlington in.

Actually there is a "rumor" that is going to be built off of I-10 between Beaumont and Houston.

We hear it all of the time down here.

I would love it but I will have to see it to believe it.

Disney built a theme park in the middle of the second largest population mass in the United States, between two of the busiest airports in the country, right next the second most travelled highway in the republic, and less than a hundred yards from the second biggest tourist attraction in North America...

...and it's been a money burning, company destroying flop for five straight years now.

Do you really think there's a "rationale" for building another park in the middle of Flyover Nowhere, Texas?

Not trying to be a smart alec, but are you saying DL is doing badly?

I honestly have never heard this.

That's where I am right this minute, as matter of fact. I've heard a lot of crappy things today, but I haven't heard any Disney rumors. :confused3

Pasadena smell?? What? I haven't smelt anything, but I've lived her for 30 years so I guess I'm just used to it.

 We live on Clear Lake down in Kemah. Even my DD, 11, knows when the north wind blows we can "smell Pasadena"

There is another Disney theme park in Southern CA. But then again, since it didn't occur to you, that pretty much makes A-V's point.

I'm lost. I've never been to DL, but I'm assuming you're all referring to California Adventure?

No it doesn't. A-V's point was that people wouldnt want to go to Texas for a theme park, and he used DCA as an example that people dont like going to huge metroplexes. But DCA isn't popular because it is unoriginal, not because it is in a huge population area. DLR proves that the huge population area doesnt drive people away.

Anyway, Disney isn't building in Texas, the rumor from the OP was for Winterplex from a different company. Can we close this crappy topic now? Please?

I really don't think that was exactly the point AV was trying to make.

My bad on this one.

I always considered California Adventure and DisneyLand one of the same. :confused3

I actually enjoyed the pace myself. YMMV

Anyway, I don't believe they will build a Disney Park in Texas either, but don't forget something.

WDW was built in the middle of a swamp and millions go there every year.

I'm not in the commercial real estate world. But there are a couple of big houses that are empty. One is between Smiley Road and Mobberly Road, and one is the house at Tally Ranch. Drive up there and see for yourself. Perhaps the realtors don't associate large houses with land that's being bought up for a commercial use because it's so remote that a future theme park there would never occur to them.

Believe me, good commercial real estate brokers notice these things.

I havent read the whole thread, but here's some info most people do not know. Property ownership and statisics are public record. For ex., search yahoo for osceola property appraiser. Then search the records for Disney. The WDW info will come up (interesting fact, the whole property is worth more than 300 billion dollars!) So if you know what county the theme park is being "built" search for Disney. If you get no response, then it's just rumor. If there was one in Texas, it will take away the appeal to DL as TX is fairly close to CA.
Also, before Disney builds anything they usually go to the press. They get most of their support from building and construction costs. So they would have needed to get sponsors. Not even Disney could pull sponsor's out of their behinds. Plus, why wouldn't the sponsor's mention it? Im not doubting those of you who claim to have seen a castle, but trust me, after WDW land was built WD went straight to the press and then started working on blueprints. Secretcy isnt like Disney. Also, who wants to attend a park noone has heard of until the opening, or right there before? Epcot was announced in beginning stages of planning, the MGM tower was built to anticipate guests, and AK was announced way before they went to Africa to harvest the trees and landscape they'd of needed for the animals. Very unlike Disney!

First, Disney doesn't sign options or contracts in its own name for something like this; it forms other entities to do so, so searching for "Disney" won't show anything. Second, nothing shows up in the tax assessor's records until the transfer actually occurs; generally Disney would tie up the property with options or contracts but wouldn't actually take title to anything until well down the road in the project. Third, although Disney announces its projects well before opening, they don't announce anything (in the U.S., at least) until they get the land under control.
