Disney to cancel FPs if room is cancelled

Hey! My family and I are about 40 days out for our trip. We have a room-only reservation at All-Star sports, and we already made the 60 day FP reservations. But we are thinking of staying off property at an Airbnb because more family members are planning to join us! We are NOT trying to game the system, but when should I cancel my reservation?

If I cancel the room ASAP, will my fastpasses disappear right away? And will I be able to book again at the 30 day mark? Or will it take a few days before the 60-day FPs disappear??

What happens if I cancel the room AFTER the 30 days out (for example 21 days out) from the trip? Will I get to keep the FPs or will they get deleted and I’ll have to start all over?

I’m trying to do the best (and most honest) thing to not screw myself over in this fastpass situation! Any advice?

Depends on your tolerance for risk. Given the reports so far, you may not lose them at all.

And this is what bugs me. People have legitmate reasons to change their mind. I’ve changed my family’s Spring Break hotel (not Disney related) three times because I keep finding something I like better. That’s why is weird to have this “perk” tied to a hotel stay. They should just separate the perk from the lodging all together IMHO.

The time you get would be the earliest available for that attraction, there is no picking times at all. You open the app and it says Haunted Mansion has a 60 minute wait or a return time between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM, that is the earliest return time and only return time available at that moment for Haunted Mansion. Basically, works just like the old paper FPs without the paper.

Which required you to get to the park right at opening if you wanted to get a fastpass at all for a headliner attraction. The TSMM fastpasses used to be completely gone for the day within like a half hour of park opening, it was terrible. I would be extremely annoyed if we had to go back to that.

well, since offsite guests can book 30 days out then you should wait until then to cancel if you stand a chance at keeping those FP+. I would think that Disney would need to impose a penalty for anyone canceling a reservation of at least a one night's stay if they cancel within the 45 day mark. Unless, of course, they get the insurance and the reason they cancel is covered.

Well, the only way to absolutely level the playing field is to go back to the days of Stand By only - no FPs at all.

:duck:Ducking now... as I don't think anyone really wants that, but think about it - no advance anything...no running from machine to machine... you show up, you get in line... hours later you ride. Of for the simplicity of a few decades ago....

Where's the unlike button?

And they must be getting something out of the system, yes? All that data? Staffing levels, hours, IDK...

Yes the data they get must play into all of that, although you would think they would use all of that data to design new rides with significantly larger capacities so they don’t get upwards of 6 hour waits for rides... clearly that is an epic fail... (even 90 min waits are too much)

My husband’s coworker took his family to WDW this week. When DH asked him about FP’s last week, coworker said “oh, we’re not going to bother with that.” My husband was like “uhhh....”
And then there are people who think it costs extra.

I always feel a bit sorry for folks who are not long time WDW guests.... To try to comprehend ALL OF IT without having anything to base it on has to be just mind blowing. I tell them that it's like nothing they have ever done, and to research everything. There's a ton of info available from lots of sources, but trying to explain it all to folks who want to plan a trip "next month" is tough....

Our first trip ever was a last minute day trip to Magic Kingdom the day before our flight home from our cruise. In a lot of ways I wish I could go back to being that unaware of all the ins and outs of Disney World. We had a great day. We got fastpasses in the car on the way there and picked up many sdfp once we were there. We didn't ride Mine Train or other things with really long lines but as someone unfamiliar with the parks we didn't know what we were missing and didn't care.
