Huh?

I called my local DisneyStore (OK, 90 minutes away but whatever) and asked if their costumes would be on sale Monday, day after Halloween.

The cast member snippily informed me that they are sold out of everything. I said "everything? I was really hoping for some Princess slippers, with the kitten heel, maybe a tiara or two" and she said "oh, the Princess stuff never goes on sale. So I wouldn't bother coming in on Monday"

DD has been hounding me for some Aurora slippers....she's got every other princess known to man, but needs Aurora for some reason and I don't want to pay $16.50 for them. Since I got Jasmine (for Christmas, shhhh) on sale there 3 weeks ago, thought I'd see if they had lots left tomorrow.

I'll be "going to town" anyway to get my car worked on, so will swing by the mall, but I was not pleased with the attitude I received when I called.

There! I'm done venting, thank you! I'll carry on now...,

So, you called and wanted to know if there would be a sale, and she said that they were out of stuff, and the princess stuff doesn't go on sale. I don't get the problem. She answered your question. If you were going anyway, why bother her with the call.

Princess stuff never goes on sale at our local disney store either.

If they have halloween decor left, they put that on sale but it was already gone when I was there last week.

Where I used to work, if we were asked if X item would be going on sale the following day, the answer was to be "I am sorry, but I don't know at this time."

So, I don't see the issue. I doubt the princess stuff will go on sale since I see those in the stores year round. So they might not be seasonal merchandise.

At the Disney stores any Halloween costumes that are in the store become dress-ups and are sold the rest of the year.

It is very simple.

It doesn't look like they are clearancing out like last year. Last year on Halloween I was able to pick up an Aurora & Jasmine outfits for $14.99 each and they had a number of Belle and Rosetta costumes as well with numerous accessories (shoes & jewelry) down to $4.99. Today I went to see what was there this year and it was very limited and only marked 50% (several princess Cinderella dresses, Pocahontas & jasmine shoes).

Certain costumes may be discounted, others will be carried year round.

Sleeping Beauty is not one that is usually kept all year.

Now that Disney had the Outlet stores, lots of clearance is sent there. Sometimes is is put on sale for a few days before going to an Outlet, is is hard to say.

Inventory of everything is much lower than years back, so there is less to put on sale.

As far as knowing what will be on sale, often the stores are given notice of markdowns via email, 1-2 hours before store opening.

I guess what bothered me was that she was snippy on the phone...."don't bother coming on Monday"....not really a customer service attitude. When I worked in retail, I would never have said that. I would have said "oh, I'm sorry, all our Halloween inventory is gone....no, those don't usually go on sale, but we'd love to see you anytime" or something like that.

Maybe I was her 40th call of the day asking the same thing, or maybe she just didn't like people asking when the merchandise would go on sale:confused3

Our store put most on sale last week. They has Snow White, Jasmine, Alice, Pocohantas and Mulan marked down to 19.99 but had very few accessories left. They did have others that were not marked down because they weren't "seasonal". I would look online. They had a much better selection of sale items there anyhow.

You can also call other Disney Stores if the item you want does go on sale and your store does not have the size another store will ship it to you. You have to pay a shipping charge and use a credit card to pay over the phone. Just a thought.

I'm a Disney Store CM and if a guest was looking for something that we just didn't have and told me to that he/she lived 90 minutes away, I would probably tell them the truth - that it may not be worth the trip and to try online. Granted, I would tell the guest that I was very sorry but I would tell them the truth and let it up to them to decide. I would probably tell the guest about the other great new merchandise that we got in (Christmas, Marvel, etc.) that the guest could see if he/she came to the store but emphasize the fact that the product that he/she is looking for is truly sold out.

I can say for a fact that we (especially the PT CMs) don't know for sure when items are going on sale. Sometimes I'll be ringing a guest up at the cash wrap and realize something is on sale. As far as Halloween costumes, when I worked last, I know that Tinkerbelle, Rapunzel and Belle were all full price again. I haven't worked since then, so I can't say for sure what prices are currently.

Before the Disney Store that I work at opened, we would drive an hour to get to a store. If I knew a product that I wanted was sold out, I would want the CM to tell me, especially with the price of gas right now. I believe the OP said that she's going into town anyway to get her car fixed, so it's probably worth the trip to see what is left, if anything.

Good luck with finding some bargains! :)
