Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

I appreciate that Disney offers such a variety of transportation modes to its guests so that each person can choose what they are most comfortable with!!

While the gondolas will be a mode some will not choose to use, I’m excited for this new transportation option to DHS and Epcot from Pop (our resort of choice) and the whole new perspective it will offer!

I agree - especially knowing how into the idea Walt was and pushing for new, more efficient means of urban transportation - I love when Disney does something new in this area

The wraps are very cute but I was thinking that looking out over the landscape as you went from point a to b would be more than half the fun. Looks like there is only partial view through door.

I suspect these wraps are the same kind that they use on the monorails and busses where you can see right through them from the inside.

That Skyliner reveal today was kinda underwhelming. They didn’t show you the inside of the vehicle. They might as well as had a cardboard cutout of the skyliner there instead of dragging an actual one to the press conference if they weren’t going to show you the inside.

A couple of questions popped up in my mind.

1. How big is it inside? Can a party of 10+ people fit comfortably inside without having to split up and meet at their destination?

2. Is it air conditioned inside?

3. Are there seats inside or would people have to stand throughout the entire journey?

4. Are you able to get a powerchair or scooter on board?

Those are my questions. Anyone else have similar thoughts/concerns?

1. They can accommodate 8 comfortably and probably up to 10.

2. No

3. There are benches that flip up to make room for scooters and strollers.

4. Yes, there is room, and the level load with the platform so they can roll right on. The stations have a special loading area that will make it even easier.

The logistics of running as many people as are here at Destinstion D through the gondola and risking damage make no sense... that being said, you can fit up to 8 adults in seats, but the benches fold up so that up to 16 can fit standing. It is not air conditioned, and you can get a power chair or scooter on board.

Dopprlmayer is the company making the Skyliner.
The inside should look something like this.
The cabin in the video (I think) is bigger than the ones Disney will have

Agreed.

I particularly love the 'continuous boarding' aspect of the Skyliner as a contrast to the buses, boats, and monorail. Much like Haunted Mansion or the People Mover with a moving sidewalk synced to the ride vehicles, it's going to move people a lot more efficiently than a full-stop/start loading system. For that reason alone I think Walt would love it.

Hmmm.....maybe it is just the perspective the photo is shot from but it looks a little narrow in between the benches. People may have trouble getting some of those giant strollers in there. Maybe it is roomier than the picture portrays.

I believe the seats will flip up to make more room for strollers, wheelchairs etc

The seats are suppose to flip up. The doorway must be at least 36 inches I would think to accommodate a wheel chair. The doorway seems to be as wide as the benches.
I would've thought at least one bench would be split in addition to being able to flip.

Oh boy. The whole bench? You know someone out there will be annoyed if they want to sit and a double wide stroller comes into the cabin and they have to stand.

A look inside the actual Disney cabin.

That's not the same as the D23 photos. Mainly, this shows wooden slat benches, and the D23 ones are cushioned. I am suspicious of this photo.

Edit: I got this wrong. The wooden benches are the D23 photo, the other photos in the previous post are NOT from D23 event.

It's all personal opinion but I'm leaning towards believing the one @rteeze posted here:

I'm leaning this way because a) I can tell it's a wrapped cabin and b) the pile of stuff on the floor looks like it could be the gray fabric that was wrapping the cabin after it was painted and the picture was leaked showing Dale on the outside of a red cabin. The same one I believe that was on display on the weekend

I have not seen any pictures posted by D23 that show the inside of the cabins. Do you have a link to where D23 shows the inside of the cabins? I'll take padded seats over wooden slats any day. ;)

The only cushioned benches I saw were from the IAAPA convention and they showed pictures of gondolas from the Doppelmayr company but it was not confirmed that those were the actual models that would be used by Disney. At least that is my understanding.
