Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

Glad to hear there shouldn't be any noticeable motor noise. While I can see the skyliner being a great transportation benefit for CBR, I am curious how the overall activity of the stations and overhead gondolas will affect the resort's laid back vibe.

For the gondola systems back home in NH the only noise was when the diesel generators kicked on. Those were noisy. Generally the electric motors were very quiet and just went about doing the job of spinning the bull wheel. The generators only kicked on if the power feed from the grid fell below some unknown level, or went dark, as indicated too by loss of lodge lights, speaker systems, etc. A scenario that only happened on rare occasions, mostly noticed when I worked at a ski area and consequently there for many days (and evenings).

My apologies is this has been discussed previously, but the motor noise question sparked another question for me: Will the gondolas have speaker systems playing Disney music? To me, music and other sound effects ("Please stand clear of the doors," etc.) have always been a part of the Disney transportation experience. Does anyone know if this will be part of the gondola experience?

And it should change as you progress, like "Calypso" near CBR, then BW and then EPCOT music etc.

Less impact than a BTG staying at CBR. Less impact than being on a bus that makes 13 stops before your destination. More impact than a showing of the lackluster Planes at CBR movie night.

I don't think it has been confirmed (not much has been confirmed yet as far as actual function) but I believe they will have speakers but not sure if they will play music or just for announcements and instructions - so more like what they have on the monorail

I'm guessing that the gondolas will not have on board speaker systems. Obviously the stations themselves will but since the gondolas are likely to have power of any type it would be difficult to have a sound system working in them.

They do have some limited narration as well along the route.
If so, I don't believe this has been officially announced. Like many other parts of the system there have been many opinions but I don't believe whether they will/will not have a speaker system inside the individual gondolas has been announced.

For speakers to be used, there would need to be a power source as well as device that plays music and or announcements in each car. There is no power going to the cars from the stations. A power source could be a battery but would need to be charged somehow. Solar panels could do this but in the pictures of the cars we have seen so far, I don't remember seeing panels on them

Maybe a plug in battery pack like for a cordless drill ?
Pop in and out when needing a charge.

With the low power requirements for an announcement system and lighting, there are a number of ways this could be implemented. With that said, this would add complexity so they may choose not to do this.

I can't imagine how eerily quiet  it could be inside the gondolas as you travel from station to station. I really hope they pipe music or something into them somehow :music:. Just my 2 cents.

I fully expect the announcements to play from the stations as you enter and exit, not in the cars themselves. I really think these cars are being designed to be as passive as possible with no power source. I feel like it will be interesting to ride at night as I expect no real internal illumination except maybe reflective safety decal type stuff.
