Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

How many cars do you think will be on the entire system?
 
Is this correct? They don't need a motor on the other ends?
If I understand correctly most ropeways have a single primary drive station and Disney’s primary for all three lines is CBR. In the diagram I posted above, you can Doppelmayr has “remote drives” in their backup systems. It remains to be seen whether the Skyliner will have this third method of drive.

How many cars do you think will be on the entire system?
On another site, one poster said they had heard 225, another countered with 325. That would be the number ordered; something less than that would be on line. Somebody said there might be 10 held off line.
 

Not a huge update, but happened to catch the painting of the IG station on Thursday ... they were hand-painting:
What are the white things on the top of the towers. I don't see them on videos of other D-Line installations

Each cable is a continuous loop, so only needs to be driven at one point.

Think of an old-fashioned pulley clothesline between 2 buildings. You only pulled the line from your own window, you didn't need someone pulling at the other end at the same time.

Quoting my own post only to say that the LiftBlog guys do not think the Skyliner will have the third method of drive as detailed in the diagram I posted. They cited the rescue boat dock building permit as one indicator along with the nature of the Skyliner drive system as they see it so far.

Not sure that the boat dock would have anything to do with that. Even if there are multiple backups, they still need to be prepared for the unlikely scenario where they cannot move the line no matter how many drive backup there are.

My understanding is that they are used for the initial pulling of the cable.
 
Forgive me if this is a stupid question but I have never ridden a system of this type. Are the drive system motors that are mentioned to be housed at the CBR station going to be loud? I am curious if this will create a background motor noise or a low humming sound or ??

I wouldn’t expect them to be very loud - you will have three lines meeting there and just a lot of activity so I can see it being sort of noisy overall inside that station - but I wouldn’t think the motors would be super loud to the point they impact people ataying at CBR or anything

Well that’s certainly true enough.
 
Here’s another video from Doppelmayr. At 1:55 it shows how the vent cooling system works. I’m still hoping for air conditioning lol
At least it looks like the hot air will flow around which I guess will help.
 
I don't think you'll find much motor noise. You'll get more noise from the cars going over the bogey wheels at each tower randomly.
For about 18 years, I worked about 150 ft from the drive motor of a much older dopplemayr lift. I couldn't see it, and honestly couldn't tell you when it was running or stopped. I could hear the phone ring at the station, I could hear the backup Diesel motor on rare occasion. I could hear people laughing at the loading station, but not hear the motor.

The electric drive motor will not be the nosiest part of the operation. You'll hear beeps to notify the thing is slowing down, or about to speed up. I'm sure they'll be speakers in the terminals explaining things in a variety of languages. You may hear various other mechanical noises.

If I remember right, the station there is not really that close to any of the buildings housing rooms anyway so it shouldn't affect where you stay if that is what you are asking.
