Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

I now feel dumber for reading the replies to that article. How do people still have thick skulls about long wait times for this?

I'm speculating, but I'd imagine that most people with "doom and gloom" attitudes have almost zero knowledge about gondolas being used as mass transit. They see them as novelty rides at amusement parks or means to transport a few hundred people up the hill at a ski resort.

I've wrote this before, but I'm certain that Disney got a great deal on this system from Doppelmayr. If this project is a success, it exposes millions of people to the idea that gondolas can be used as a mass transit solution in urban environments. So when the local city planner proposes a gondola, it's suddenly not a crazy idea because many people will have seen them in action on their last Disney World vacation.

More simply put, a successful system at Disney World opens up the US market for Doppelmayr.

That’s pretty harsh. Not everyone is as vested as we are in the Skyliner.

There may be times when a lot of people are trying to use the Skyliner at the same time ( park closing, after fireworks, etc.) and the waits could be above normal.

Last December my dd and I were in the MK on the one night in an entire week that the MK was offering PM EMH and the park was SLAMMED!!! We were trying to ride something and the crowds made it impossible for us. The ‘small world’ FP line was backed up across the walkway to Peter Pan. The one ride we figured we could ride was the People Mover but even during the fireworks it snaked around and was backed up so far that we couldn’t find the end of the line.

All this to say that while long waits for the Skyliner will probably not be the norm, I can’t believe they won’t ever happen.

Sorry if this is posted. We are staying at POP in December and if we board to go one of the parks will the Skyliners bypass the other resorts and straight to the parks or will they have to go through the terminals at the resorts?

No you will have get off and change gondola at the CBR to go to HS or EPCOT

It is expected that bus transportation to the parks and resorts involved in this new transportation system will decrease or go away altogether.
This is from the first page of this thread, which is supposed to contain all the latest on the Skyliner. I sincerely hope this is not true because there are still going to be a lot of people (my DH included) who would rather ride the bus than the Skyliner.

I think the expectation is a decrease in buses, but not a complete elimination.

Everyone at the Skyliner Resorts we have talked to recently are now saying bus service to Epcot and DHS will continue as normal.

So it looks like they will just raise prices at the Skyliner Resorts enough to cover both bus service and the cost of the Skyliner!lol

FWIW I got the premium in 2020 for the Skyliner resorts above and beyond what comparable resorts went up in pricing as on the order of $60 million--about 1,200 bus drivers, by my back of the envelope calculation
