Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

I understand that they may not want the gondolas traveling through the unfinished Riviera area, but on the other hand to me it seems like it would actually be an excellent advertising opportunity. Throw up some billboards or signs as you pass through the Riviera station that show splashy images of the finished product and DVC advertisement. The average Disney visitor isn't watching boards and Disney news sites and probably doesn't know the place even exists.

Actually that part isn't hard at all, anyone here could be trained to do that in an afternoon.
Splicing is specialized, that is correct, but is like a 2+ day process.

The more I think about this, the more I think Disney just doesn't know how to react when they have a vendor/contractor deliver on time and on schedule. :p:rotfl2: They are so used to overuns they just plan for it now.

:teacher: Goodness, you might be onto something here!

Well sure but if that is the case why string the haul cable now? I would guess that stringing the cars would take some specialized skill also though I don't know for sure. I doubt they would need specialists to splice the cable while anyone can hang the cars when they arrive though I may be wrong.

Rushed the towers and cable to buy the steel before tariffs kicked in?

Also, there is going to be a training curve for both CMs and emergency responders.

i could be wrong but I think they also have work to do on the separate dock at hourglass lake they need to build for the emergency rescue - so one other more "structural" thing .... still doesn't explain another 10-12 months being needed though
Man. When you write out "10-12" months, it really hits home. Those few gondolas on site, all the equipment already installed, everything will be over a year old before any guests set foot on them.... IF they hold the September 2019 date, that is.

My thoughts: they can run the Skyliner without it going to Riviera...So maybe the September 2019 date is fully operational??

I'd like to think that but looking at how it is worded on Disney Parks Blog it states that Fall 2019 is when they will "begin to transport guests"

"Minutes ago, Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products, announced that Disney Skyliner will be ready to begin transporting guests at the Walt Disney World Resort beginning fall of 2019!"

I am thinking they are "under promise/over deliver" on this and it will start before 10/19.

Previously, it was reported, apparently everywhere, it would open late spring or early summer. Was this from a Disney source? If so, why the change?

Unless, originally, they planned on opening the gondolas as soon as possible, and then reversed course and decided to wait until Riviera was done.

I don’t know why they would do this, but if I were a major stock owner, I would not be happy with the Skyliner being SNO for 9 months or so. Think of all the money they could be saving on busses!

Disney has not said any date until today.

Either way it’s later than everyone expected.

We will have testing beginning in January 2019.

According to Martin, gondolas will be running on the lines in April.

Guests will be riding the gondolas by September at the latest.
We’ll be staying at CBR in July. We were thinking of doing the bon voyage breakfast on our resort day. If, while walking or taking the boat from HS to boardwalk, I see the Skyliner running empty, I’ll be giving it very resentful looks.

I had suggested earlier in the thread that they wouldn't run it until the riviera was more presentable. Still, fall seems very late. As others mentioned I could see them at least running the AOA to CBR and the CBR to DHS lines at least.
Fall starts in August. At least that’s when the pumpkins come out.

I am interested to know if the Epcot line will need more than one splice, considering there is a limit to how large the spool of cable can be.
From the looks of the stations and the turning section it will likely be in sections with one line to the Riviera resort one line from there to the tuning station and then one line to Epcot

It's been previously confirmed that it's one line the whole length. Riviera and the turn station just turn the one cable.
