I'm getting DN (9) a digital camera for Christmas and came across the Disney Pix Max. Has anyone heard anything about it? While I know she'd love the Disney theme, I don't know if I'd just be better off buying her a Kodak Easy Share (I have one and know its easy to operate) or some other type of easy point & shoot camera. Any suggestions? I'm looking to spend around $100.

i got one for a 6 year old. she loved it but the pics r grainy. I would suggest getting something else. Also depends on how serious she will be about it. If it something she loves doing then get a regular camera.

Bought two of these last year and they are awful. Don't waste your money. The disne graphics on the camera don't make up for the terrible photos. You can't get a shot indoors at all and even outdoors they are VERY dark and VERY grainy. Look for some reviews of a better "cheap" digital camera.

As much as I like Disney, I have to say that I have been VERY disappointed with their electronics. I have returned one Disney digital camera and an organizer that were both made for kids. They look good in the package, but then my DD was totally disappointed when they didn't work properly. We will never buy another electronic gadget from them again.

In other words, I would choose a different camera, probably one that DN can learn something on and have fun with at the same time.

I bought one. Haven't opened it yet, but can tell right away from the look build. You get what you pay for, and in this case, it's a stripped down 3mp camera, and a little bulky at that. However, I'm giving it to a 4yro so I'm concentrating on what the camera was made for:

Easy for a child to use (few buttons/option).
Easy to replace batteries (AA; noting propitiatory or expensive)
Add Disney Characters in camera (fun).

Compare that to a $88 Kodak or equivalent which will have better picture quality, but won't be child friendly or include "child" features. So it's a tradeoff. Think of it more a a camera that's fun to use for the kids, and will get them interested in photography.

I just hope that it works properly, thats all. The things I have bought have simply broken or have not worked and that really gets a kid sad quickly. It bummed me out that I had purchased a product that I thought would make her (DD) happy and it turned out to be the opposite. I certainly hope it works well for you. I understand what you mean. A 4yo would not get into a "real" camera as it certainly wouldn't be as much fun. Let us know how it works, though. It could be that I just picked the wrong products.

Sorry, I read the OP and than found the old thread about it.

thats okay, I was amused by my "change of mind" I forgot all about that post! Shows how a few shots/vs actual use can make a world of difference.

I agree AndrewWg. But I'm not that concerned. If it lasts a month, it'll break the record for being a non-broken toy in my house. LOL

:lmao: I know where you are coming from on that one, that's for sure! Good luck with it.

Well, I pulled the Pix Max (3mp) out of the box to test it. To put it bluntly, my 1MP camera phone out performs the Disney Camera with ease. This isn 't opinion, this is fact.

The Image Quality on the 3MP camera is so poor, that I'm convinced they went dumpter diving when finding sensors for these things. If you looking for a camera with "keeper" images, steer clear at all cost.

However, I'm keeping it, because it still fits the needs I wanted:

- Uses AA batteries.
- Easy for a kid to use.
- Adding Characters to the frame right on the LCD is fun.
- SD card support.
- A LONG delay between shots. For me, this is a good thing. My son gets trigger happy. This should slow him down.

Construction is cheap, but on-par for the price. I just can't believe how bad the sensor is. They could have gotten 200% better perfomance out of the old Argus 2mp sensors from 5 years ago.

Here is a sample for the Pix MAX (3MP), and one from my Motorola Q Cameraphone (1MP)> Pix MAX is first. The exposure is clearly different, but upscaling my 1MP image to 3MP still looked better than the PIX MAX.

That was my biggest issue. Even when the flash fired the photos are so dark that they are unusable.
Here is the best shot I was able to take with it.
