I dont think we are doing Downtown Dis this time- just dont dig it when the crowd gets rough- what a nice way to describe it. Maybe our mistake was going on a Sat night- I am sure we saw some kind of drug deal go down-
Guess next time we should go early in the day!

5. Change of clothes for DD in a gallon zip loc bag
6. Extra zip loc bag (this came in handy at night to stop and get ice before
going to the room
7. Extra battery for digital camera
8. Mister fan
9. Extra batteries for mister fan
10. Laminated itinerary that I hung from a book ring on the outside of the bag
11. Hat for DD

13. Suncreen face stick (I love these)
14. Baggie filled with motrin, wet wipes, band aids, blister band aids,
kleenex, dramamin, and rolaids (I went through mass quanities of wet
wipes)
15. Body glide
16. Dollar store rain poncho for each us (thank goodness I never need these)
17. Bug spray (I never had to use this either)
18. Glow stick (DD never wanted these)
19. Digital Camera
20. Banana Boat chapstick with sunscreen
21. Anti Bacterial Hand Gel

I used a messenger bag from old navy that I got for really cheap. I really liked it because it had a big back pocket for the autograph stuff and two snap pockets in the front that made it easy to get to the camera and hand gel. I loved having the bag. I needed most of this stuff at least once a day. I definitely can not see going to to Disney without a bag o'crap. Hope this helps.

We loved Downtown Disney during the day. It is much more family orientied then. Also the marketplace is much better than the west end. I would say if you want to go definitely go during the day!! Because would you really want to miss ice cream at Ghiradelli's?

Was the messenger bag a pain to carry around all day? Would you suggest going with a backpack versus a messenger bag?

I will have to say that it did get heavy but by the end of the week I felt lost if it was not on my shoulder. DH and I also took turns. I don't like back packs so I probably would not have gone with it but also a back pack is a lot bigger and won't fit in the rides as easy.

I was crying reading what is in your bag o' crap. You are so incredibly funny. I read the list to my DH, and he pointed something out that is missing from your bag o'crap! Walkie talkies..we always put them in our bag o'crap., (We're going to call it that from now on too!!) in case we need to split up with the kids or something..add that to your list for next time!! Just in case one of you parents need to wander off, makes it easier to meet up again!

I agree. We each actually had a cell phone and mine was in the bag o'crap. I have walkie talkie on my cell and it comes in handy!!
 
Day 4 finds us once again up at the crack of dawn. I rally the troops today is going to be our first time at Epcot and I want to be there when the park opened to ride Soarin. Now to get there on time I had to do some strategic planning. My uncle works at the Magic Kingdom so we had to meet him there to get our tickets. Off we went on the bus to the Magic Kingdom. It was early magic hours and Magic Kingdom was opening at 8:00 A.M. We arrived at the park and then a miracle happened! My uncle was actually waiting at the gate. I was in so much shock I almost cried. We grabbed our tickets and ran for the monorail. I asked if we could sit up front and was told it would be no problem. DD loved sitting up front on the monorail and so did I. DH used the time to study the engineering of monorails by grilling the conductor for every possible known fact on its abilities and speed.

We jumped off monorail one and onto monorail two and finally we were really on our way to Epcot. As we rounded the last bend of the ride, our hearts sunk, they had already opened the gates. I dragged DH and DD down the ramp and made them literally run to the gate. I had been told if you get there at opening, you could maybe ride it one or two times without much waiting. We got through the dreadful finger scanner; why they have those horrible things I will never know they make the lines 10 times longer. We started on a very fast-paced run-walk; we were pros at this after our near miss with Cinderella. As we were nearing the land my dreams of multiple rides died there were hundreds of people standing around, and then I saw it. A rope!!! THE ROPE!!! They had just opened the gate but the Land was still closed. I began winding DD and DH through the crowd until we were standing right on the rope. I grabbed DD’s hand and explained we were going to walk as fast as we could to get on the ride before anyone else. There were some very nice cast members and my daughter chatted them up while we waited for Mickey and Minnie. Finally the troops were headed our way. The cast member grabbed Mickey and told him that DD loved him and he gave her a great big hug.

Then the countdown was on. 10..9..8..7..6..5..4..3..2..1. Go, go, go! The slow-paced race behind the rope to be the first in line for Soarin was on. I kept DD and I right on the rope the whole way up. All of a sudden, a cast member turns to look at us and says “how many people in your party?” I told her three and then she asked me something that I still can not believe. “Would you like to be the Soarin family of the day?” Are you kidding me YES YES, YES I proclaimed!! :dance3: I still cannot believe this happened. She told me to follow the cast member my DD had been chatting with before the opening. At this point, all of the people were taken to the right and we were taken to the left. We were not sure what being family of the day was yet but we knew it had to be something. The cast member took us all the way down to the ride, walked us in, and sat us down in the middle of the front row. He said strap in it is time for your ride. I thought this is awesome we get to pick our seats and then they will let everyone else in. Then something even better happened. They started the ride. We got to ride Soarin all by ourselves. This was the most magical moment of the trip by far. I have tears in my eyes just reliving it. That was the most amazing ride; you could actually smell the oranges. After the ride ended the cast member asked if we enjoyed it and of course, we said yes and then he asked if we would like to ride it again. I was ecstatic. This time they let everyone else in but we still got to ride it two times in a row.

About bags, I don't like backpacks either and used a Baggalini messenger bag. Sometimes it got to be a little heavy, but I also couldn't have done without it. We also kept bottles of water in ours, or a couple of times, frozen lemonade, etc., if we weren't finished by the time we got on the ride.

I totally forgot I had waters too and they were in those coozie things that I looked for nearly 6 months and when I stopped looking I found them in a wal-mart 400 miles from home. Dang! I told you it was a bag o'crap!!!
 
I am loving your trip report! I had never heard of a Soarin' family of the day. What a cool experience for you guys!

After we rode Soarin, I went and got Fast Passes for Mission Space while DH and DD got in line for Test Track. We had to wait about 20 minutes for test track, our longest wait of the whole trip. We loved Test Track. I just wish you got a few more laps on the track that was the best part. We exited Test Track and started making our way to Mission Space when DD lets go of my hand and lets out a blood-curdling scream. Just so everyone knows DD is a drama queen. I would say I don’t know where she got it but that would be a lie. I am a major drama queen myself and my husband has been in drama his whole life so my poor DD had no choice, genetics always wins. I look over at DD and she is lying on the ground. Apparently, a little girl accidentally tripped her and she fell down, did I mention she is also a giant klutz. I scooped her up and grabbed the bag o’crap. Wet wipes, anti-bacterial gel, and band-aids to the rescue! I was so glad I brought that bag. 5 minutes of hugs, 2 tissues, and 1 boo boo kiss later we were back on our way. Next stop Mission Space! We go through the Fast Pass line. I chose the less intense ride because of DD. We went to the queuing area and then the warnings began a barrage of warnings that assaulted us for nearly 10 minutes. DD could not handle all of the warnings they really freaked her out. We got on the ride telling her how fun it was going to be but as soon as she saw inside the shuttle, it was all over. DD freaked out and started crying hysterically. I am not one of those moms that force their kids to go on rides; I figured she had liked everything else she would like this too. I was obviously wrong so we got off, and to be honest I was glad because I was nervous about the ride also.

By this time, we were all getting hungry so we decided to go to the World Showcase for lunch. I wanted to eat in France, so we started the walk through the countries. World Showcase was a ghost town. We saw less than 50 people the entire time we were in World Show Case; it was very weird. I guess people tend to go there at night. We ate lunch at the Bistro. I had the onion soup, DH had the macaroni and cheese, and surprise DD had chicken fingers. My soup was good. DH’s macaroni and cheese had so much cheese it was over powering. I have always believed that you cannot have enough cheese on any dish; I now stand corrected. After lunch, we had some pastries. The pastries were mediocre at best I must say. We spent the next two hours wandering through the World Show Case. This was the only day that we were in a park after 12:00 P.M. and did we learn our lesson. If it had not been for the mister fans, we may have died from heat exhaustion! I am sorry to admit but we didn’t really like World Showcase that much. It was not quite what we expected. Most likely, we couldn’t enjoy it because we were broiling; I am sure that was probably it.

We decided to go back to the hotel for some rest before coming back for Illuminations and dinner. As we were walking back toward the entrance, I saw the character building. DD and I couldn’t turn this down. We got to see Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy for the third time as well as Donald, Pluto, Chip, Dale, and King Louie. Goofy cracked us up. All these kids were patiently waiting in line for all the characters but at the end they could choose King Louie or Goofy first and they were all going to King Louie. DH felt bad for him and started taking his picture. Goofy started acting like a super model and was doing all these crazy poses. I laughed until my sides ached.

DD really enjoyed seeing all of the characters again. Chip and Dale were very cute and loved their autograph sheet. Donald was very funny too. His autograph sheet showed him playing soccer and so he kept acting like he was going to kick a ball; it took us a few minutes to figure out what he was doing.

We made it back to our room and by 6:00 PM., we were ready to strike out again. We made it back over to Epcot and walked straight to San Angel in Mexico for our 7:00 P.M. reservation. We did enjoy Mexico. The shopping was more fun and more reasonably priced. About 7:30 P.M., we sat down to dinner. We had a taco type appetizer that was fabulous but the rest of the meal was mediocre at best. They had one thing going for them, the alcohol. They made a mean strawberry margarita. I was lit up like a Christmas tree after one drink. I had read in the Unofficial Guide to Disney that the patio in Mexico was a great place to watch the fireworks. After dinner we crossed the street and found a spot right on the railing, and that was only 30 minutes before show time. About 10 minutes before show time DD started dancing around; I thought she was just excited. No, wrong again. She had to use the restroom, again! Oh my goodness, she has the most impeccable timing of anyone I have ever known! DD and I once again found ourselves in a race against the clock. We ran into the pyramid pushing people aside in our relentless pursuit of the restroom. We were done and out the door in what must be a Guinness world record, and made it back just in time Illuminations was very good. The heat was intense. It shocked me when the fireball erupted and the heat slammed into my face. DD and I both agree that Wishes was much better than Illuminations. We liked it, but there is just something magical about Wishes. DH liked Illuminations the best. He is such a man, always goes for the biggest explosion. It was extra magic hours but we were too tired so once the fireworks were over we headed back to the hotel knowing the next day was just around the corner.

Day 5.. A Day Without Disney?
 
First of all, just wanted to say great TR! I have decided though that somehow we must be related! I too carry a bag o'crap. In the past I have used a "purse type" back pack, but it is inconvient because I practically have to take everything out to get to the stuff on the bottom and I just bought a messanger bag to try for our upcoming trip.
We too have a drama queen that also has the restroom timing of your daughter.
Glad to hear the trip has gone good, thus far. Interesting to hear if you took a day off from the parks. We were thinking about this, for our upcoming trip.
 
Day 5 and we have a day without Disney planned. We get up at the crack of dawn, as usual. I have rented a convertible Mustang from Hertz and they are supposed to pick us up at 8:15 A.M. We are waiting outside at 8:00 A.M., just in case. 8:15 comes and goes and no Hertz pickup. Trying not to turn into the grumpy mama on vacation I say let’s give them 15 more minutes. 8:30 comes around and still no Hertz. I start calling them and the phone rings and rings. Finally the third time I call someone picks ups. He says he will be right there, apparently at the Shades of Green Resort there is only one Hertz employee. So at 9:00 we are picked up and brought to the Shades of Green Resort and pick up a beautiful blue convertible Mustang. We are off!

Our plan for the day was to go to NASA and to Cocoa Beach. We head out and immediately DD and I crash. I have never been able to stay awake in the car and neither can DD. I feel so sorry for DH it must get so lonely driving while everyone else sleeps. We make it to NASA at about 10:00. First stop the ticket counter. Now I knew how much tickets were going to be in advance but as I forked over the credit card, I could not believe I was paying this much to see some big pieces of metal. I made a comment jokingly to DH that my taxes already paid for this place and now here we were paying through the nose again. Much to my chagrin, I looked down at the pamphlet and it says in big bold letters, “This facility is paid for 100% by visitors. No taxes are used to support The John F. Kennedy Space Center.” Dang did I look stupid! Always leave it to me to put my foot in my mouth. We spent the morning touring the space center but by 1:00 P.M., we were ready to go. We did see many interesting pieces of American history, but for the price, you need to really be into NASA to shell out that kind of money!

We jumped back in the car, top down, and headed for the beach! We loved Cocoa Beach!!!! This was DD’s first trip to the ocean and the beach and she loved it. None of us wanted to go at the end of the day. The water was so warm. I will have to say that the sand was extremely HOT and the water was very salty but we still had a great time. We went to the Ron Jon shop, wasted some money, and asked around about a good place to eat. We were told to go to Florida Seafood because it was great, and it was. I got so much shrimp for so cheap; I couldn’t even eat it all. After a long day, we headed back to our home away from home to get ready for our next day of Disney. I am so glad we did this day; I think everyone should take one day to see the ocean. I rate this as a must

Oh but there was yet one more stop to make before we really could call it a day. Beaches and Cream was calling my name. We drove straight from the ocean to the restaurant. It was only about a 20-minute wait, and man was it good. The ice creams were huge. I was disappointed because the family would not share a kitchen sink with me, but still got to have some great ice cream so I didn’t sulk long. I do think that Ghirardelli’s in Downtown Disney was better, but DH’s vote was for Beaches and Cream.
