Disney Nostalgia Pictures

That shirt was insanely popular since my sister and I both had the Minnie one too!! With the front and back view of your favorite mouse. It's funny how many of us had that shirt.

Now I need to bug my Mom and Grandmother they have some great old pictures of us at Disneyland. Including us with the very short Donald haha!

Fairycat, I had replied to you over in my Trip Report last night, and I was saying that you definitely should dig up the old photos - of Tiny Donald and everything else!

Oddly, now that I think back, my friend Sean, with the white 'rear view Mickey' sweatshirt in the picture I posted earlier, actually borrowed that sweatshirt from one of the other girls on our trip. Something happened to the shirt or jacket he was wearing, like it ripped or he spilled something, and he had to borrow my female friend's sweatshirt. So I am sure he didn't feel as masculine as he could have while wearing the rear view Mickey sweatshirt, but it was necessary. I WOULD wear something like that - even today - but only if the sweatshirt came in black. I spill things and am too klutzy to risk a white sweatshirt. But I love the idea of the rear view Mickey, so I don't care how old I am. I would wear it today if it were only a dark color. I wear Mickey shirts a lot - in and out of Disneyland.

I am so going to try I need to take my computer over to my Grandmothers house and scan some of her pictures since I know there are some disney pictures hanging up.

What I really need to bug her about is the one's where they took my Mom to Disney, one of the first days Disneyland was open. I think my Mom is like 3 years old in them.

Ooooh, those must be great. I hope you can find them. Compared to today, Disneyland looked so, dare I say, basic in the old pictures from the '50s and '60s, but yet it was so ahead of its time for that time! That was when Mickey and Minnie were really odd looking, but still endearing and cuddly.:lmao:

Here is one more from 1957. This seems to be some sort of snake oil salesman type from the Wild West. :)

Why yes, as a matter of fact it DID have a rear view of Minnie on the back. :)

HA! A few weeks ago in another thread about first memories of Disneyland, I said that all I really remember from my first trip was riding around in an old uncomfortable metal stroller. It looked exactly like the one in this pic, fringe on the canopy and all! Hehe, I guess it's a silly thing to point out, but it gave me a giggle! :upsidedow

That is just so funny! We didn't think they looked so barbaric back in the day! :lmao: That stroller is in fact, my niece's; she is the little girl there on the right in the blue dress. My babies had a blue Winnie the Pooh one and I thought it was such a great, delux model! pooh:

While I sadly did not have one of those Mickey sweatshirts; :lmao: I did own one similar in a sort of nightshirt! It had the Mickey in the front and the back view of him on the back. I wore that thing so often that it became quite see-through :scared1: ...and a see-through Mickey Mouse nightshirt just doesn't seem right, does it?!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I think I had a mickey night shirt like that too (only not see thru :rotfl: )

And as long as we're talking about sweatshirts, I will admit that I had a Captain EO sweatshirt. In my defense, the only reason I got it was because it go cold in the evening and we all bought sweatshirts and we had to pick out a cheap one. I think I only had the choice of 2 different ones and at the time, Captain EO seemed cooler than the alternative.

I remember that, but I don't remember it being Captain EO. :rotfl: I think mine just said California on it.

My sister, brother and I with our Mom in New Orleans Square :grouphug: ....were we sopposed to go up those stairs? :confused3

I'm sure they expect people to take pictures there. :) I have a picture of me on some stars from Jan. Not sure if they are the same ones but look different now, or if it is different steps all together.

LMAO! Oh man! Now THAT'S vintage! Sure puts all those odd looking character costumes from the 70s and 80s to shame! :lmao:

You're right! We all may just as well stop posting our nostalgia pictures now!:lmao: :lmao: I think that last photo takes the cake! I still can't get over the giant heads and small human bodies. Makes Pee Wee Shiny Vegas Donald look downright ordinary!!:rotfl:

Oh Lord! What year was that taken? Mickey and Minnie look hilarious with their normal, human-sized bodies and disproportionately large heads!

Looking a little closer I would have to say that it was around 1959-1960 (somewhere in that time frame)

Look at those shorts! :rotfl:

Reminds of the old dwarfs costumes they had at the Snow White premiere. Man, did those look weird.

Here is one from when I was about 8-9.

Apr04_121.jpg

Oh my! Mickey and Minnie were so scarey back then! :scared1: Thank goodness they are so much cuter now! :lovestruc They look like they could topple over with those too-big-for-my-body-sized heads!

But that picture is great and you are so lucky to have it. :thumbsup2 Thanks so much for sharing it with us! :cheer2: By the way, is that a Dodger hat? My DH bleeds Dodger blue. :cool1:

You know, many many years from now, people will probably look at the CURRENT character costumes and have the same reaction to them as we're having toward these oldies. :rotfl2: It's funny to think about. I wonder how costumes will evolve!

The changes seem so subtle, if not undetectable, when you go to DLR often, or several times back to back. You don't really spot anything too drastic happening with the costumes. Just like you may not notice that a family member or co-worker is gaining a lot of weight when you see him/her every day, but if you go for 2 years without seeing that person and then you see them, the weight gain is unavoidable! It is only when we look back at pictures of characters' costumes from other decades - even as recently as the '90s - that we can see the progression from then to now. So 10 years from now we may look back at 2009's version of Mickey and Minnie and snicker at how archaic the costumes were!
