Purchased DVC at 55…anyone else?

Not a big traveler. I like simple and easy. We'd been going every so often with the kids, which was always a big deal with planning and buses. I started talking to a co-worker who was big into WDW. She started drawing maps showing me how easy it was to get around WDW with walking paths so you didn't spend time on the bus. Our kids were getting older and DH kept talking about vacation homes, which I didn't want any part of owning another home requiring maintenance. Between our circumstances, Disney hotel discounts, air deals and my co-workers maps we started exploring. We were going for long weekends about 3 annually and suddenly DVC was making sense. I wrangled DH into the walk-in DVC at Boardwalk and boom! We were early 50's. We bought for us. Never regretted it.

For the first 15 years the kids were not interested. When they realized how cheaply we were staying at the higher level hotels, suddenly they become interested. So we added them as co-owners. When we stop going they'll just take the contracts over.

I bought in at 48, after renting points at 45 (Poly) and 47 (Beach). Been happy with it since, but have successfully avoided add-on-itis. Their park ticket and LL pricing has helped keep appetite down. Managed to stay at a half dozen resorts thanks to the points.

Bought in May 1995 when I was in my late 40's. Never regretted it.
I'll bet you could tell so much about how DVC has changed over the years. You joined when there was just one DVC resort (although Richyams-remember him?-would say that there was always only one)
