Yeah, there's plenty to criticize Disney about...This isn't one of them. I get that Fantasmic was sorely missed but it's pretty absurd for people to start waiting 12 hours in advance. All that does is cause a huge headache in the park. People start seeing a big line forming and it just causes more people to start lining up. Then you have a mob of people blocking walkways and entrances to stores and such.

Disney World Now Allows Same-Day Cancelation of Dining Reservations in My Disney Experience App

Following a systems update last night, guests can now make same-day cancelations of dining reservations as long as they cancel more than 2 hours prior to their reservation time. Scott Gustin was the first to report this change.

Previously, guests who wanted to make a same-day cancelation of a dining reservation were required to contact Disney World to make the cancelation and avoid a no-show fee. Now, guests who cancel more than 2 hours before the dining reservation can do so within the My Disney Experience app without the need to contact Disney. Canceling in the My Disney Experience app also avoids the no-show fee which is typically $10 per person.
This will be lovely for the majority of guests, who book only the ADRs they plan to keep, because yes, life happens, kids get sick, problems arise. But it will also add to the difficulty of booking ADRs at the most popular restaurants and most sought-after times, as the hoarders who book multiple ADRs can now wait until 2 1/2 hours before to cancel the ones they don't want (or couldn't sell on FB).

I wish Disney would change the ADR system so that you are no longer allowed to stack multiple reservations and/or have multiple reservations for the same restaurant.

I pointed out to DH that you don't have to list all guests' names on any ADR, just the name of the person managing the ADR. He has an MDE account, our DD has an MDE account, and I have an MDE account. So I could book 3 ADRs for the same time and simply list one in his name, one in DD's name and one in my name, and we could wait until that morning to decide which one to keep. We won't do that, but others will.

... or it can increase the availability for the last minute.

It's 3:00, and I'm at the Magic Kingdom. I've got a reservation for 'Be Our Guest' at 6:00. My 10 year old daughter is clutching her 'Beast' doll close. She's been holding her autograph book and pen. She's dressed like Belle. She's been dreaming of going to see the castle for dinner since we got the reservation 2 months earlier.

However, my Genie+ reservation for the 'Carousel of Progress' finally came through for 6:00!!! Previously, I would have to show up at the 'Be Our Guest' dinner - as I wouldn't want to be out $40 for my family of four. Now, I can cancel at the last minute and SAVE that $40, and go to the 'Carousel of Progress'.

Oh yes, I agree it will be wonderful for the majority of guests who use it. However, an unintended consequence could be that you’d have a harder time getting that BoG ADR in the first place.

I wonder if this is a response to people not making ADRs because they’re putting that money towards Genie+/$ILL and/or don’t want to risk a schedule conflict with Genie+/$ILL . . . interesting!

I rarely make ADRs and never use Genie+/$ILL so it doesn’t matter to me, but I hope this helps other people with their planning!

I wonder if it’s just logistics in staffing. I have had 2 hour waits to try & call & cancel same day.

Call Member Services at (800) 800-9800 to book. Reservations are available most Friday nights up to 60 days in advance.
While this actually sounds kind of cool, I'm really getting fed-up with this new DVC idea that the blue card "Membership Extras" don't actually get any new perks - they just give blue card holders the privilege of being eligible to pay Disney more money.

I wish Disney would change the ADR system so that you are no longer allowed to stack multiple reservations and/or have multiple reservations for the same restaurant.
While I love the flexibility in planning, There is no reason to allow a reservation every hour... make them spaced by two and it would greatly help availability from hoarders.

Or, you could just go to BoG dinner and then walk over to CoP and do the standby line which is likely to be empty.
